Re: [maemo-users] Please Help-power-on/boot issue

2006-10-24 Thread Doug Frazee
I successfully re-flashed my 770 last night on AC power. Flash completed successfully. Unfortunately, the unit still will not boot to desktop on AC or battery power. I'm sending it in for repair. Some forum searches seem to reveal that I'm not alone in having thisor other similar problems. I sure hope Nokia figures this out.-dougIgor Stoppa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: please use the ml,it's for helping everybodyOn Mon, 2006-10-23 at 13:17 -0700, ext Doug Frazee wrote: Igor, Nokia charges $60 for a replacement battery. I just realized that the market is flooded with cheap generic batteries... Will my warranty be affected if I use a non-Nokia replacement battery? Isn't my battery covered under warranty?
Your phone support agent, encouraged me to send only the battery in (to Orlando instead of Texas). I just want to get back up n running as quickly as possible and didn't want to send in my battery only to find that it was not the problem. By the way, here is how I responded to Mike's suggestion: Thanks Mike, I brought the 770 in to work today, boxed-up ready to send. I cracked the box open and tried your suggestion but unfortunately, it didn't turn-on. After the initial issue, the recharge took over an hour, before battery full was indicated. Subsequent attempts to top-off the battery take only minutes to get to the battery full text. And the battery measures over 3.7VDC. I know that the battery could still be hosed, but it appears that this is not the case. Thanks for your suggestion, I won't send the unit in 'til tomorrow and I'll try any
other suggestions that roll-in. -doug Doug Frazee <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: Igor, Thanks for your reply. It's very refreshing to have a Nokia employee chime-in only minutes after my post. By the way, Nokia phone support also suggested I try another battery. Although I'd love to try it, unfortunately I don't have an extra battery and I bought the 770 via mail order. I'm not aware of any dealers in my area (21401 zip). What do you mean by: "the charger itself is a wakeup source, no need to press buttons. The presence of power from the charger is enough." In my case, the charger does seem to wake the device, but I still can't get it to boot to the desktop or use the 770, even when plugged-in to the charger. -doug Igor Stoppa <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: On Mon,

Problem is the unit will still not power-on, No white screen no vertical bars, simply no sign of life whatsoever. I'd consider it hopelessly bricked, except all seems fine when I plug it into the charger. I tried : removing/reinstalling the battery removing the
battery waiting 2+ minutes prior to reinstalling turning the device on while connected to the charger measured battery voltage, iirc ~4.2VDC In summary, nothing works. The unit shows absolutely no signs of life when off the charger. Although the display lights and it appears fine when connected to the charger, it will not turn-on even when plugged-in. I contacted Nokia and received authorization to send it to their Texas repair facility. I'd love to get it running again without sending it in. Can anyone help? Hi Doug,I've had this sort of thing happen when I've let the bettery run completely dry when first getting it. Make sure that your battery is all
charged up and the try pressing and holding the power on button for a long, long time. If you think that you have waited long enough, wait another minute and then release the button and then give it a quick press and release. Also, release the button if it starts to boot. If that doesn't work try this when the charger is plugged in. That worked for me. I haven't let the battery run dry since and I haven't had any problems./Mike Hi, the charger itself is a wakeup source, no need to press buttons. The presence of power from the charger is enough. About this specific problem, Doug, any chance of trying to boot it with another battery? Cheers, Igor Igor Stoppa (Nokia M -

Please set the Reply-to field in each of the mailing lists to their repective list address. That way the conversation doesn't stray from the ML so easily and when you hit reply, the right thing happens and don't have to do the Reply to All - CC: - To: cut-and-paste weirdness.

[maemo-users] 2GB card?

2006-10-24 Thread Jonathan Greene
Has anyone had success updating their 770 with the hacked OS to get 2GB
cards running? I can't get this to work from OS X and unfortunately
don't have a blank CD handy to burn an ISO tonight of Ubuntu which seems
to be the ideal way to do this...

I'm dying here - my 2GB card arrived and I can't use it. Still stuck
with the original 64 and all of it's wonderful limitations.

Thanks,
JG

I have a 2gig card that works with no apparent problem, though I
haven't gotten around to using it much.

There is an OS patch that I installed; the patch allows above 1gig to
be recognized. I don't have the instructions at hand, but they were
clear and worked. You can easily find them on the maemo site.

Thanks - I've been trying those instructions but keep getting the
command to fail with the command line as root and can't even get the
patch to run from the GUI flasher...

These are the instructions for those interested -

from Maemo -
https://maemo.org/maemowiki/HOWTO_FlashLatestNokiaImageWithMacOSX?highlight=%28osx%29
and directly for the patch -
