N800 - navigationkit

2007-05-09 Thread Michel Brabants
Hello,

I got the navigationkit today. It seems ok. For people who are interested,
there is a "map face North"-choice. Just select the generic menu (the
menu-button) and it is located along the options 3D and flat(?).

Anyway, everything seems to be nice. One really annoying thing is that it
can't calculate cross-border routes seemingly. I live very close to the
border and I pass it more than 1 time a year ... Tomorrow I'm going to France
and somebody else is going to take his tomtom with him. I would like to try
out the navicore-software on the N800, but untill the border of France, it
may be the tomtom ... It's just much easier to just give in your destination,
then a border-location ... This is one thing I would like to see an update
for ... For the rest, I have to see, but it looks ok.

Greetings,

Michel

Joost client for the N800?

2007-05-09 Thread Acadia Secure Networks
All,

I tried to sign up for the Joost beta only to learn that, like Google
mail before it, you need to be invited by someone who is already in the
Beta and who has "tokens" to hand out.

My question is as follows:

2. It appears Joost requires the installation of client side software.
Is Nokia doing anything to influence the Joost folk to develop a Linux
client for small screen devices? I see that at least one N800 user,
geneven, has put in a pitch for an N800 Linux client on the Joost forum
www site. Here is the url to the thread:

I just checked if I could connect while I'm not connected to the company
network. When I dial an internal number, I get the same ringing as
before. Since that SIP server is behind the firewall, it's obvious that
Gizmo isn't even attempting to connect it. It looks like it's useless
for me. Is there any SIP soft phone that will work properly, without
having to connect to an external server, as Gizmo does?

Re: Trying to setup connection to the internet through dund on linux

Hello,

after some time, I tried again to create a dun-server on my linux-box. I tried
different config-files, ..., but it appears that the N800 is breaking the
connection I think. I have no idea what the N800 is expecting. Connecting to
a provider is eas with the N800, but I haven't found a solution yet that
makes the N800 connect to a linux-box through dun without logging on on the
N800. To repeat my question ... which parameters should I set for pppd, ...
so that I can create a dun-connection to my linux-box with the N800? Does
anyone have an idea?

Thank you and greetings,

Michel

That does ring a bell now that you mention it. When I first installed
Gizmo on Fedora, it gave me some login issues. The login message was
highly uninformative since the problem was not with the login but
rather with the fact that I hadn't installed the Rendevzous (aka
DNS-SD aka Avahi aka Bonjour) libraries and Gizmo needs them to work
properly. As soon as I installed Avahi, it worked. I did complain
about that uninformative message not pointing to the correct problem
on the Gizmo forums. They used to bundle those libraries separately
but now they bundle them in the main install, I believe.

I recall that Gizmo wouldn't login on the 770/N800 until I did a full
reboot (power cycle *without* it being on the charger) so that it
could start up the DNS-SD service. I think that many people don't
realize that the tablets do not actually reboot if you power cycle it
while it is charging.

Plugins available for Maemo Claws-mail 2.9.2-1

2007-05-09 Thread Jean-Luc Biord
Hello,

A new release of Claws-mail 2.9.2-1 is available for Nokia 770 and n800
on http://www.claws-mail.org/maemo. With this release, some plugins are
available too:

* AttachWarner : Warns when the user composes a message mentioning
an attachment in the message body without attaching any files to the
message.
* AttRemover : This plugin lets you remove attachments from emails.
* mailMBOX : This plugin handles mailboxes in mbox format.
* RSSyl : This plugin allows you to read your favourite newsfeeds
in Claws. RSS 1.0, 2.0 and Atom feeds are currently supported.
* vCalendar : This plugin enables vCalendar message handling like
that produced by Evolution or Outlook, and handles webCal
subscriptions. It provides a personal calendar and public calendar
import and export.

I packaged only the plugins who works and who seems to be useful on the
tablets. Feedbacks are welcome.

That randomness and inconsistency was puzzling. In the same environments

Every other time I encountered uninformative system messages that I

I never received answers to my questions so I eventually uninstalled the

That is odd. It has worked fine on every system I own. There was some

That really isn't limited to non-Gizmo servers ... it happens on the
Gizmo servers too. I had reported it and was told that it was a
hardware CPU limitation issue that causes some time to set up the data
stream once the connection is made. I am sure things could be done
with setting things up while the line is ringing but they seem to be
working on other things than optimizing for the 770/N800.

I hope that Ekiga shows up on the 770/N800 some day ...

Either way, if you can get over the few second delay on pick up with
Gizmo, the call quality is good with very few dropouts (fewer dropouts
than mobile phones but more than land-lines with voice quality better
than both).

Re: N800 inflight!

2007-05-09 Thread Jonathan Greene
Why not just deactivate the wireless and then stop the scan and
connect automatically for the flight?

Check the connectivity settings in Tools / Connection Manager. You
can then use Bluetooth without issue and it should be fine on a
plane... plenty of people are using the N800 / Keyboard combo as it
fits nicely on the tray table compared to a full laptop.

Are you planning to use the keyboard on the plane? Will they allow
bluetooth wireless? Is this the point of the experiment?

Thus losing the keyboard.
Isn't there any way to connect a keyboard using (gasp) wires?

Sounds like a bug. Report it.

With non-Gizmo servers I saw frequently the first seconds missing in a call
(not sure if that is by accident). That rendered it unusable for me. I was
trying with sipgate.de, all desktop VOIP clients worked well with that SIP
server.

Hi!

This sounds like a good way - but how about pdfs? I would like, too, to
convert these tp fb-reader. Any ideas?
