osso-xterm from the maemo-hackers repository does not have this problem.

Problem with Xterm

2007-05-30 Thread James Knott
I just flashed my N800 with the latest version of the OS and also
reinstalled Xterm. However, I've noticed that when using the hand
writing input, each time I enter a character, the entire line of
characters is re-entere. For example, if I enter "pwd", it would appear

You can update using Linux using a flasher-3.0 binary downloaded from here:

http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/d3.php

Instructions in the Wiki but basically connect the USB cable between the N800
and Linux box, power on the N800 while holding the "Home" button and the device
should enter "flasher" mode. Flash the device with "flasher-3.0 -F
 -r -R"

Updating software means that all your applications and data will be
deleted. You must perform backup before update, however you should
remember that:
 * applications won't be saved, so you'll need to install them again
 * only some data will be saved as not all applications indicate what

It should be fixed. Or at least it didn't happen to me yet while it
happened about 3 times with older firmware. Also linux kernel changelog

Well it is too late but what worked for me when keys were dead in first

executed default application as usual and then keys suddenly started to
work and I could unlock the device.

Marius,

thanks for creating/sharing that www page.

Concerning your wishlist item "VNCserver", have you tried using xllvnc?

For my own needs it seems to work quite well with Tightvnc on the client
side aside from the problem of not registering stylus clicks on the left

Re: Dock station for Nokia770/N800

2007-05-30 Thread Acadia Secure Networks
Michael,

from the beginning of my awareness of the Internet Tablet form factor
product ~2 years ago I have been thinking about how a docking station
could be created for exactly the purpose you mention, i.e.."...as
control device for music and home control systems". What I would like to
see is a docking station that could either be

a) used as a free standing device cradle, or, alternatively,

b) mounted in a shallow recessed wall box with AC power where the
device could be easily "unmounted" for handheld use.or
alternatively, left in the wall box and used while mounted.

With proper foresight a savvy mechanical designer, I think, could come
up with a design that could be worked into both of the above applications.

This happened to me twice. It's not pleasant. The latest firmware
fixed the "won't unlock" bug, thankfully.

At least that part never happened to me.

I created a web page for my own convenience, with links to .install
files for all the applications I found useful:
http://mg.pov.lt/770/reflash-n800.html

New firmwares appear from time to time, and it's easier to upgrade when
you've all the steps written down in front of you.

You didn't say what fs is on it. Anyway, you should go as root and umount
it. Then, just use command line options. You could even repartition it.

There should not be difference. Choose fs and use appropriate mk.

I have installed Gizmo on both N800 and winXP both have option of

Is this possible on N800 and if so could my existing voip account with

Or even possible have I got the wrong end of the stick...

 Hello Magnus,
one reason for the message "Memory card inklusive use" could be that
you use the virtuell memory. By deactivate the virtuell memory it
should be possible to format the card

not want to unlock. At the end i chose to remove the battery.

it turned out to be a big mistake (but what other choices do i have?) - i
ended up with the n800 rebooting itself mysteriously over and over again.
This symptom repeats with or without memory card. As soon as i get Internet
connection again, i found out some had such rebooting issues too. So i have
no choice but to reflash the unit.

now i have the latest flash installed, without all the applications i have
installed earlier. time to reinstall things.

at least now i have no issue with the screen being turned on alright ;)

wahlau

That problem is fixed with the new firmware update... IMHO, worth it
for that reason alone. :-)

RE: Dock station for Nokia770/N800

2007-05-30 Thread Dr. Nicholas Shaw
I like that idea. Then I could simply hook it into my KVM switch (if a
docking station had a DVI connector for the monitor). Yeah! :-)

Subject: Dock station for Nokia770/N800

Hi,

I have a hardware feature request/question. Since Nokia770/N800 is used as
control device for music and home control systems -

to have a dock station for the internet tablet. Is Nokia team planning to
create it?

Does that card work properly with other devices, such as a camera or
another computer?

Aw: Promblems with memory card

2007-05-30 Thread Mathias Uebelacker
Hello Magnus,

one reason for the message "Memory card inklusive use" could be that you use
the virtuell memory. By deactivate the virtuell memory it should be possible to
format the card

Hi!

I have a 1 GB memory card in my N770, but it seems to be experiencing
some file system problems recently. I can no longer write to it (and not
delete files) but read works ok. When I try to format it (File manager -
Memory card - Format) it says "Memory card in use" and refuese. I have
stopped the canola-conf from updating, but it does not help.

I can access as root in terminal or via ssh - sudo gainroot from another
computer. And via USB to the card - but can I format it through usb?

Any help warmly appreciated.
