Busybox shell (ash) is pretty good, you need bash only for bash-isms.
From you post it looks like you don't need bash at all. Maybe most
people wanting bash on device don't realize busybox ash is good enough
(and possibly faster and less memory hungry). Aliases work too of
course, it is standard Bourne shell. There is also tab completion and
'normal' line editing.

As for .bashrc you can have it working with ash too. Just create
~/.profile with something like:

# ~/.profile: executed by Bourne-compatible login shells.

if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
   . ~/.bashrc
fi

PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11
export PATH

mesg n

and ~/.bashrc

# ~/.bashrc: executed by bash(1) for non-login shells.

export PS1='\h:\w\$ '
umask 022

# You may uncomment the following lines if you want `ls' to be colorized:
# export LS_OPTIONS='--color=auto'
# eval "`dircolors`"
# alias ls='ls $LS_OPTIONS'
# alias ll='ls $LS_OPTIONS -l'
alias l='ls $LS_OPTIONS -lA'

and it works. You can also set ENV to ~/.bashrc to have it read for
every shell (not just login shell from .profile)
export ENV=~/.bashrc

Not true: we're always last in Ireland -- companies think we're part of
the UK because we speak English, and they are often shocked to hear
we're a separate state.

I didn't know there was an "offline mode" (and I haven't found it yet).
On my flights to and from the US last week I did what I could to turn
off wifi by disconnecting it from the airport network at the departure
gate and setting the search interval to "Never". I used my BT keyboard
on the plane and no-one complained (and we didn't crash).

The advice to obey cabin crew is good, but without any formal basis for
knowing what the policies are, any such instructions are likely to be
without technical grounding. Still got to obey, no matter how odd.

N800 peering

2007-12-15 Thread James Knott
This morning I tried to connect my N800 to a friend's. While we could
connect, we couldn't view the other's using the file manager. While the
other N800 was visible in file manager, under blue tooth, we could not
see any files. Instead, there was an error message about the device is
not available. Any idea why or what's required? Is there anything else
we can do between to N800's via blue tooth?

tnx jk

The same happed on a HP laptop I used for a while.

I think the reason is that bluetooth and wifi uses the same antenna, and
off-line mode probably just powers down the low level transmitter, so
both signals are turned off together.

I too ran into the problem with enabling off-line mode for power savings
and then not being able to use the bluetooth keyboard.

Had no problems flying on Friday with my bluetooth keyboard, no one noticed
or cared. I asked the lady at the United counter and she didn't know if it
was allowed or not and told me to follow what the flight attendents told me.

http://flors.wordpress.com/2007/12/15/the-n810-codes-for-maemo-contributors-next-week/

"The N810 discounts for maemo contributors will be ready to be used in
the online Nokia shops taking part of this program… next week. I was
reluctant to give any date when I mentioned ‘around 15/dec’ and I’m
still reluctant to give any exact day of next week since the factors are
many and at maemo we don’t control any of them. [..]"

Thanks for your feedback Quim!

So for us german discount code holders the N810 will probably delivered
after Christmas as shop.nokia.de guarantees a delivery before Christmas
when ordered until 16.12. (Standard delivery) or 19.12. 13:30 (Express
delivery).

Happy holidays!
