Yet another N810 FAQ

2008-05-20 Thread Andrew Daviel

FYI, I wrote up some of my N810 "discoveries" as a FAQ - mostly things I
figured out for myself but some courtesy members of this list (thanks
again)

http://andrew.daviel.org/N810-FAQ.html

Corrections appreciated. Or questions with answers, preferably ones I can
verify myself, or at least a definitive URL.

(as to why it's not a Wiki .. I *still* find it easier to edit on my own
servers with vi than to use a browser as an editor ...)

I found
http://www.oooninja.com/2008/02/batch-command-line-file-conversion-with.html
and wrote said Babelfish-style converter.

If anyone wants to try it, see http://home.daviel.org/cgi-bin/ms2pdf

No guarantees it will stay up, and the bandwidth's not great (this is not
a production server). I called it "MS to PDF" but it will also do
ODT, SXW etc. to PDF or HTML.

I have OpenOffice 2.4 running in headless server mode and pass it
documents retrieved with wget. Currently it caches converted documents
indefinitely so I'm not bothered if someone hits "reload" a few times.

Point taken about wanting to work on documents offline, but what I wanted
was to check out the slides at a conference to see what stream I wanted
to attend, or follow links in the presentation in real time.

min. web survey "on a scale of 1-10, how important is IM to you?" etc.
plus a few free-form comment boxes.

Have you considered https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4125
? I haven't tried it but it sounds useful for that case.

oops.

There are per-connection proxy settings in control panel -> connections
(advanced or somesuch button on the last page of the wizardry)... I
don't know how they interact with prefs you might set in about:config
but if you're mentioning the possibility of changing them in browser
prefs I think you'll need to either also explain the interaction, or use
a different example, to avoid confusion :)

For maemo-mapper, "Bluetooth" with blank address works; see

Re: UVC Gadget driver

Hi,

for usb audio there's an ALSA driver snd_usb_audio. No clue though if there
are efforts to include it into IT OS. Would be cool.

Best regards,

Really about Debian on the N8x0, which opens up the possibilities
drastically! :-)

That's pretty awesome. Is it true or just a spoof?
Where is the debian distro for N8x0 and where can people get that version?

Re: OOo on N8x0

2008-05-20 Thread Lake Stevens Dental
This sounds like a work in progress before it achieves general
distribution. Sounds like a couple months out for general use, at
best. I also noted in poking around that there's a KDE desktop showing
on the n800.

The last things folks doing this sort of development work need is to get
dumped on my a bunch of end user problems.
