Do you have a separate card reader? If so, plug it in there to work on
it. Or if you connect it via USB cable to another computer, is it then
available? Either way, copy all the files off it, before doing anything
that writes to it.

Well then, it must be fscked up. Try running fsck on it to check file
system integrity.

dosfsck, if available to you, or put the card in a card reader and use a
desktop to do it.

disable swap, and then format the card.

Any idea how I can do that? When I chose "Memory card -> mmc2 ->
Format ..." from File Manager it tells me that the memory card is in
use. I tried booting up without the memory card and then inserted it
later to no effect.

http://mxr.maemo.org/diablo/source/osso-email-interface-2008.11.1/ossoemailinterface.h#39

probably explains what's happening.

Arguably it's silly that that's a hard dependency; of course if the apps
don't quite gracefully handle the lack of an email client to call then
it's not a packaging bug.

the file system card can be corrupted and needs an fsck.

Forgot to mention, you may want to run fsck on the file system, to make
sure it's not corrupt.

Check the write enable switch, located on the edge of the card.

Write access for MMC

2008-10-14 Thread Shivkumar Chandrasekaran
Hi,

I have a 770 with OS2007 Hacker's edition with a 1GB removable card.
Everything worked fine until yesterday when I suddenly lost write-access
to the card. So I can no longer do backups or write or remove files from
the File Manager. I tried connecting it to my Linux machine using the
USB cable, but the Linux machine also insists that the file system on
the USB drive is read-only (so I could not delete files for example from
linux terminal, even with super-user permission).

Can anyone give me some advice so that I can re-acquire write access?

Thanks in advance,

Without going into details, let's just say, re-install from scratch.

It's amazing, after all these years using Linux, I can still manage to screw
up a system so bad. ;)

I guess that's what's so fun about Linux, every time you feel like learning
something new, you have to tools to do it.
