Re: Looking for gps logger for n810

2009-03-29 Thread Christoph Eckert
Hi,

Pretty much any of the nav apps for the tablets can save track logs,
including Maemo Mapper, RoadMap and NavIt, plus some of the more
 specialized tools like OSM2Go.

just for clarification: In Navit it must be enabled by editing the config file
navit.xml, osm2go does tracklogging, but track export is not implemented yet.

Best regards,

ce

Thank you. I gave maemo mapper a try and it does allow me to save the track.
I think this will do what I want. I just want to be able to see where I have
been and since I can also open the old track file each time I use it and add
to it this should work for me.

Another question. I can't seem to add POI's In maemo mapper. Is there
another tool that can create a POI from within mapper.

 Hi,

Hello, I'm wondering does anyone know of a logging program that would

I've driven in a given city and then be able to merge that onto a map so
that I can use the result as a planning tool for the next time out.

Pretty much any of the nav apps for the tablets can save track logs,

WayFinder Maps app - it's stable, but otherwise pretty much worthless.

Thank you. I have given maemo mapper a try. I can share your frustration
with the builtin map program. It seems to just be an attempt to generate
revenue, to bad I hope in any newer pieces of hardware they don't take the
same route.

This is outdated info, maemo-mapper has been able to start the gps bits

ah, cool. Didn't notice that. How do I need to set the preferences so it
automatically starts the internal GPS subsystem via gpsbt?

Thanks best regards,

Another question. I can't seem to add POI's In maemo mapper. Is there

at least there's track = add marker. But the feature seems to be broken
anyway:

I do not know of any other application that can record waypoints (and I'm
currently playing with some pymaemo code as I'm looking for such a feature as
well :).

Waypoints and track points are not the same thing. Maemo Mapper keeps
automatic track logs just fine. Waypoints/POIs can be entered by just
tap-holding and in the resulting menu click on Tap Point-Add POI... You
can then change/adjust the coordinates if needed or even enter
coordinates somewhere else completely. That's an easy way to enter
custom POIs for any location you choose. RoadMap works similarly.

If you're talking about downloading general POIs for an area, Maemo
Mapper does a pretty good job of that as well. First select the types
you want in main menu-POI-Categories... Then go to main
menu-POI-Download... You can also import POIs from files.

If you really mean that you want to record tracks as waypoints rather
than track points, that's another story. I don't know of any application
at all, even for PC, that will do that. It shouldn't be difficult to
convert them, though, especially if you are importing the track logs
into some other software.

No you hit it on the head. I feel so stupid, I tried clicking on my current
position before I guess I just didn't hold it long enough. Thank you. I'll
be able to have the locations in mapper without needing anything else.
