N900 Price

2010-01-14 Thread R. A. Bilonick
Does anyone still think the N900 price of $550 (newegg) is out of line
with other similar devices? I read on CNN that the price of the Nexus
One was about $530.

I guess only way is to bind 2 buttons from kb: alt and f1. or does on-screen
keyboard work? its layout should be possible to change with apps found in
extras-devel (if I remember correctly)

Yes. My bad, although I suspect others may also get confused when the
hostname, set by default, tends to indicate a different version of the

I could be wrong, but isn't that "Nokia-N900-42-11" your device's network
host name and it does not really tell you anything about the current
firmware version...

1.2009.51-1 has been 1.2009.51-1 and still is 1.2009.51-1.
If it was something else, it would have a different name.

Forced Upgrade to N900 from N810

2010-01-14 Thread Peter Bart
Good Morning Everyone,
Yesterday I must have walked past the last transformer I was able to
without damage to my n810. The screen is now unresponsive most of the
time. I pulled the battery and left it for the night. After that I was
able to get the terminal started and copied /home to a memory card. I
did have a backup; from that morning using the built in utility; but
some things weren't able to make it to a spare n800 I still have. I
assume because things are different between the n810 and n800, even
though both are running Diablo 5.2008.43-7.
Specifically .spotyah??.dat, .gpe, so far, no matter I have them copied.
I'm assuming that because things are different between Diablo and
Fremantle, I'm not going to want to restore from backup. Sadly, I have
not been maemo.org in a long time and I have a lot of catching up to do.
I know, I know, rtfm. Would someone kindly point me to what I should
read first, I would like to be able to use my new n900 as quickly as
possible, and then read through the rest. I understand the repository
structure has changed somewhat? I see that several apps I depend on;
like Xournal(yippee!), OMWeather, Leafpad; have allready been ported.
Where might I find GPE?

Is Maemo PR 1.1 the same 1.2009.51-1 released today for all?

2010-01-14 Thread Andrea Grandi
Hi all,

as everyone should have noticed, today Nokia released 1.2009.51-1
firmware for all N900 owners.

I'm one of the testers that had the possibility to install and test PR
1.1 (aka 1.2009.51).

What are the changes between the version that testers installed few
weeks ago and this 1.2009.51-1 version released today?

Thanks for your help!

I just extracted this to a wiki page:

It would be relatively straightforward to put a call recording front-end
on what he's done here - ideally you'd have a .wav or .mp3 sink to
concatenate input & output streams together and generate one file for
the phone call.

Cheers,
