You can use IP forwarding with Maemo PC Connectivity. By default it works with
Diablo (N8x0) devices but with N900 you need to recompile Fremantle (N900)
kernel to add NAT support for it.

http://maemo.org/news/announcements/maemo_pc_connectivity_2nd_edition_final_released/

Documentation is here:
http://pc-connectivity.garage.maemo.org/2nd_edition/node6.html

There are some known issues with N900 compared to N8x0 devices that are listed
here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Eclipse_integration/KnownIssues_final

Some of the issues have workarounds but not all.

N900: Calibrating the accelerometers?

2010-03-09 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Hi!

Is there any way to calibrate the N900's accelerometers?

I need to signifiantly tilt the device such that the "Level Meter"
application shows "horizontal" positioning, and the same holds for this
nice XEyes widget and the labyrinth balls game.

Can this be calibrated, is this to be expected as it is, or do I have a
unit with damaged sensors?

Greetings,

  Gunter

Mh, unfortunately, it seems to ignore folder subscriptions for me
(Dovecot server).

Subscriptions would be a solution, as I'm usually not using them.
Normally, I display all folders, with uninteresting hierarchies in
collapsed sub trees of the folder structure.

Mh... :-/

Not absolutely, it may be difficult but not impossible.

So this problem belongs to TI, as the USB feature is integrated in the
OMAP 34xx chip. Which means, _maybe_ new chips could solve it. And maybe
a new device. Unfortunatly, Bluetooth isn't a solution for everything.
Anyone heard of a BT MIDI interface? Sometimes a USB-RS232 cable would
be nice (I'm doing some kind of embedded development. I haven't tried a
BT serial soultion yet).

I just noticed that it's the albums encoded as Ogg Vorbis files which
are lacking the cover images, and googling with this information noticed
me about an existing bug report on that topic:

  https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7413

So the problem is known and does not work out of the box at the moment.

For me it honors folder subscriptions (but they must be managed in
another client since Modest has no subscription-management
functionality) but it may depend on specific mail servers or versions.

The real down-side is if you hide them in Modest you hide them in your
other clients too, which for most people is not what they want.

Sync'd calendar alerts

2010-03-09 Thread Edward Johns
Hello,
I've searched everywhere for a solution to this but now I'm stuck. The
solution might not be Maemo related but I'm hoping someone here has
solved the same problem.
I sync my Outlook calendar at work with Google which I then sync with
my N900. The problem is that I use alerts heavily in Outlook but I
don't want the alarm on my N900 going off every 5 minutes (especially
in the middle of the night as it does for all day events). I don't
want to disable the alerts in Outlook I just want to stop them being
copied to the N900. As far as I can see I've got 4 options but I can't
find a solution to any of them:

i)Disable the alerts in Google Calendar when syncing with Outlook
ii)Disable the alerts in N900 when syncing with Google
iii)Sync the N900 with Google but then run something/set something to
turn off all alerts in a specific calendar.
iv)Set the alarm tone to nothing for a specific calendar on the N900.

Does anybody have any bright ideas?

Thanks,
Ed.

I don't think this would help. So far as I am aware Modest (N900s default mail
client) simply ignores folder subscriptions. But I think that I have recently
seen a ticket in the bug tracker concerning this issue to be improved in
upcoming releases.

So far the only solutions are using a different MUA (mail user agent) such as
mutt [1] or implementing the desired feature by yourself...

Regards,
Oleg

P.S. I suffer from a similar problem by the way.

There is no way to collapse mail folders. It was designed with the idea
that people normally only have a few folders (most of people only have
inbox).

What you could do is to use another email client to unsubscribe from the
folders you don't normally use, I'm pretty sure that you don't even
normally check 10% of them.
