Damn. That's too bad because I would have liked to have used it on my
N810. As I understand it, fremantle / Maemo 5 can't be installed on the
N810. Different instruction set (ARMv7+VFP).

Hey Lucas. It worked this time. I think I had an extraneous newline
character at the end. It's a little silly that hostname doesn't issue a
warning in that case.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yup. I meant do you know of a repository that contains aptitude so I can

latter, I don't believe I can install fremantle (Maemo 5) stuff on the

Hey Lucas. Thanks a lot for your help. I edited /etc/hostname, but after

Is there a repository available that I can use to install aptitude? It
also has a lengthy list of dependencies that hopefully are also

On my desktop, I pop the following into my /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf

send host-name "";

This allows me to locate my machine on the LAN by its hostname.

I've done the same on my N810, to no avail. Is the dhcp setup a little

MPlayer Slow Performance

2008-05-01 Thread Kip Warner
I am finding it difficult to use MPlayer on my N810 with the kind of
crummy CPU it ships with. Either it's terribly underpowered or
MPlayer's vo backends just need to be better optimized for the
architecture.

I've experimented with -cache 8192, -framedrop, -fps n, and even -ao
none. Each of these seem to often make marginal improvements at best.
Have anyone else any words of wisdom?

Missing GnuPG

2008-03-09 Thread Kip Warner
As is probably already well known, there is no GnuPG support available
under Maemo for Claws because of the lack of availability of libgpgme
library and a real gnupg package, as opposed to the stripped down
osso-gnupg package.

Since I intend to do travel with my Nokia, this is pretty important to
me. Does anyone have any ideas / workarounds? Are their any other mail
clients available to use that have, oh, I don't know, static linkage
with libgpgme or something?

I would like to try that. I know how to build the package from source on

apt-get source gnupg
apt-get build-deps gnupg
dpkg-buildpackage ...

GnuPG Status

2008-03-06 Thread Kip Warner
So I noticed recently someone made a commit to maemo development svn
that looks as though it will replace osso-gnupg with an actually fully
functional gnupg package:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg04891.html

I was just curious if anyone has managed to get a working package going
or if there is a repository already setup?

As it stands right now, security on my N810 is essentially non-existent
with the stripped down client that can't even search keyservers.
