Re: N900, problem with headset and headphones, tv out

2010-11-30 Thread Magnus Larsson

Hi!

I've had the same problem with one pair of headphones (though not the
ones supplied with the N900). I found some notices on the web about this
being an issue with the latest version of Maemo (PR 1.3), however, I'm
not sure about the status of it. I am still trying to figure it out,
just as you. I'll post whatever I find about it, when I have time to
continue looking.

Best,

Magnus

This may be a long shot but are you sure you have pushed the plug

GPE calendar sync?

2008-06-06 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

Just upgraded from a N770 to a N800, and are now trying to get gpe
calendar to sync to evolution on a ubuntu laptop. On the laptop I have
multisync 0.90, opensync 0.22, inlcuding the libopensync-gpe, and on the
N800 the gpesyncd.

I run gpe-calendar once, with an empty calendar on N800. Then I close
gpe-calendar, run multisync on the laptop. It connects and reports that
changes are sent to, and received on the N800, and then multisync
reports that the sync was successful.

However, from this point on gpe-calendar often reports that the database
is locked. After several reboots of the N800, it sometimes works again.
Anyone got ideas on this?

Re: Maemo mapper on N770

2008-05-29 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

Great, hope for a solution! But: Do you know precisely which versions we
are talking about? Do you mean installing MM version 2.x for OS2006 and
then updating to MM version 2.x for OS2007? Or installing version 1.x
for OS2006 and then updating?

Actually, I've had problems installing MM version 1.x as well, because
of dependency problems (needs higher version of sqlite) that installer
does not solve.

Memo mapper cannot connect to GPSD server?

2008-04-10 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi

I have a N770 (feels a bit old now) that I just reflashed, installed
OS2007 hacker edition, and then tried to install Maemo mapper, one of
the most important applications for me right now.

I can install version 2 for OS2006, through the
maemo-mapper-os2006.install (found on
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=29), and it launches. I scan for
bluetooth GPS devices and it finds my Holux GPSlim236. But then it
cannot connect, times out and says Error trying to connect to GPSD
server.

In Settings, GPSD is set to 127.0.0.1, port 2947 (default setting).

Anyone got advice on how to make it work?

Memo mapper questions

2007-11-21 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hello!

I use a N770, and have started using Meamo mapper, and find this utterly
marvellous!

However, a few issues that I have not figured yet - and have not been
able to understand from reading the docs that I found. So, with the risk
of voicing too simplistic or uniformed questions:

I have no points of interest available. I use google maps as well as
VE. But where do I find the POI database?

Secondly, is there a way to mark a place, for instance the hotel that I
am staying in, as a bookmark or home, and as visible reference point
on the map? I have used the mapper for exploring some cities, and would
find this very useful.

Problem with maemo-mapper on N770

2007-11-01 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

I have a N770 with OS2007 Hacker Edition. I decided to try the maemo
mapper for a journey. I could install it, but when downloading map
repositories (the default open rep was installed, and it prompted me to
download repositories), it crashed, and I could not restart it.

So i did apt-get --purge remove, and I deleted the dirs in the user
directory: .maemo-mapper and Maps.

Reinstalled maemo-mapper - but it just flashes and disappears.

Anyone got advice in this situation? It feels strange that I cannot get
back to the first situation, when I actually could run it for a while.
Anything I could check or try?

Re: need a community board?

2007-10-29 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

I very much agree - that is: both ways. I love web based forums for
searching and following threads, and for not cluttering my mailbox when
travelling. But also to be able to have what I want as emails when I
want to. Or even (is this heresy?) as RSS, a function I like a lot.

 something like etc...?

I can only speak for myself but the last thing on earth I want is a
web-based message-board. I want the messages to come to me, not me have
to go to the messages. The forms-based mechanism for replies is horribly
clumsy on all the ones I have used, and the repositories don't thread
properly, and people fill up their messages with all kinds of fancy HTML
 formatting.

20 mails a day is nothing. I can filter them, killfile a thread if
needed, and keep the ones I want for reference -- on *my* disk, so I can
refer to them whenever, rather than relying on someone else's server.

No problem in having it both ways, with the list replicated to a BB
front-end like LISTSERV, with a proper searchable archive and a form for
posting. But please let's not drop the email mechanism: it's too valuable.

 YMMV :-)

A character problem with bt-keyboard

2007-07-29 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

I just installed the OS2007 hacker edition on my N770, and really like
it! But... when connecting my Nokia-SU8W bt-keyboard, the @-sign is not
accessible. I use a swedish layout, I set it to this in the control
panel and all other characters seems to work well. But the AltGr-key,
that I need to access the @-sign, gives a new line (or jumps to next
input field) instead of making the @-sign available.

Anyone got any ideas on what to do with this? It feels somewhat annoying
to have to fold away my keyboard every time I am to type in an
email-adress

Promblems with memory card

2007-05-30 Thread Magnus Larsson
Hi!

I have a 1 GB memory card in my N770, but it seems to be experiencing
some file system problems recently. I can no longer write to it (and not

Memory card - Format) it says Memory card in use and refuese. I have
stopped the canola-conf from updating, but it does not help.

I can access as root in terminal or via ssh - sudo gainroot from another
computer. And via USB to the card - but can I format it through usb?

Any help warmly appreciated.

Reading them as is is not an option - for various reasons, especially
because its too small to read.

I found the fb2 format to be the best option.

What would be the easier, faster way to convert the docs (if possible
 at all) ?

I originally bought a PDA to keep up with tech documentation. Here is
 what I do:

I usually use OpenOffice.org to convert Word, etc to HTML format, and
then I use jPluck to convert to Plucker format. Plucker format is read
 by fbReader, easily.

Keep in mind, it may seem as I have a vested interest in OOo, see my
sig, but as long as you can convert the Doc to HTML, then you should be
 in business using jPluck.

Also, doing this means the links are still kept with the document, if
 they are there.

Problems connection to mobile phone after flashing N770

2007-02-21 Thread Magnus Larsson

Hi!

I have a N770 and a Nokia mobile phone, that used to pair easily and
connect my N770 to the internet. Yesterday I flashed it with latest
OS2006 image, and went throught the setup wizards, pairing with phone
again and choosing mobile operator (mine is listed so I just choose it,
3 internet, Sweden). N770 and phone seems to pair nicely, but there is
no connectin to internet. Anyone got advice on what to check or change?

Connection is set to Packet data, access point: data.tre.se, dial-up
number *99***# and username and password empty. I tried varying dial up
number and setting username and password (in line with what I have been
using on my laptop to access 3G internet) but with no success.

Grateful for any help - this makes my device useless to me...
