Google contact sync
I can't get syncing of contacts with gmail to work, neither with mail for exchange nor using the syncevolution client (https://m.google.com/syncml is 404). Is it still possible to sync the n900's contact database against gmail? -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: n900 and laptop with Debian: what application to use on laptop for syncing?
If running your own server is an option for you, you can quite easily set up your own CalDAV/CardDAV server. I can recommend davical on debian, using the sync-evolution GUI on the n900 (documentation for the command line tools seems to be dated). Owncloud might be of interest as well as it integrates a CalDAV service and offers a nice web-interface. OFC you want to encrypt your connections using SSL. There are plenty of desktop clients available (kontact, evolution, thunderbird through plugins)…icedove should be work I'd guess. NB: you can always run a local server just on your laptop. -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Broken jack - enforce headphone mode
Hi, my n900's headphone jack is in a pretty bad condition; depending on the model, headphones aren't recognized anymore or just make bad contact. Does anyone have experience with fixing the jack? Or is it possible to force the n900 into headphone mode manually? TIA, -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: n900: usb keyb and h-e-n
just get a battery-powered hub, otherwise your n900 will be out of juice either way -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Sticky Fn/modifier keys
Is there any way to make Fn (and possibly Shift and Ctrl) sticky all over the desktop, not just in the terminal? Or at least in certain applications (emacs…)? -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: Permissions on /etc/sudoers messed up - reflash?
To wrap it up: Meego let me down, I finally reflashed. The problem was the ubifs used on the maemo root. Couldn't get it mounted in meego. Most of the backup-restore worked fine, a bunch of apps are missing. So, no way to access the rootfs without maemo; mission failed. -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

Too bad. Furthermore I had a really hard time with the keyboard; the only keys I was able to use were [a-zA-Z<>], no dashes, no slashes (the modifier key seems to just get ignored). Maybe I could use the chmod on the rootfs? Still, if I can neither type "-w" nor "440" that's no use. Permissions on /etc/sudoers messed up - reflash?
I chmod 0640'ed /etc/sudoers on my N900 and closed the terminal -.- sudo gainroot/chmod/... fails complaining about the permissions, the gui package manager does so silently. Can't mount the filesystem root offline on another device to chmod 0440 back (?), can't login as root locally, ssh to localhost seems to work but I don't have the slightest idea about the root password. Re: Nokia N810 Stolled
Well you'll have a hard time tracking a device that only knows wifi. You couldn't track a stone just because you engrave an IMEI on it. -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: Nokia N810 Stolled
A GSM equipped device can be tracked down. The N810 doesn't have a GSM unit AFAIK. The only way you could identify it is when it logs on to a wifi network with the MAC you noted. But that wifi can be anywhere and there's literally no way to monitor if a device with a certain MAC address is logged on to some random access point on some private network. So I don't see any way to track it down. What could have been done in advance would be installing some kind of cronjob or demon that would try to "call home" (ie publish information about its location/state on a server you grant it access to). Make sure to change all your passwords that might have been stored on the device. And if you have *really* sensitive information stored on it, you did something wrong anyways. Try making it less relevant... But usually the first thing that happens with stolen mobiles is they get flashed, for resell. -- Philipp Haselwarter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
