[maemo-users] link local and adhoc networks...
I have found very little on the internet about how to connect to an adhoc network. Some networks the 770 will connect with a 'link local' message but return an error when the browser attempts to access a web site. Conversely, my laptop computer negotiates these networks fine. What is my laptop able to do that the 770 is not? (Btw, is there a more appropriate forum than this for questions such as this?) Could you please tell what laptop you have? :) And could you please describe a bit better what web site you are trying to access? Is it on the same network? Basically it's the same as with infrastructure networks if you are joining to an Ad-Hoc network. Just choose the network in the connect dialog and that's it. If the network doesn't have a DHCP server, the 770 chooses an IPv4 link-local address for you. If you want to create an Ad-Hoc network, you must first save an IAP with correct settings and then just connect to that network. Link-local address, well, means link local :) It works only within the link, ie. the WLAN network in this case. Without knowing the specifics, it's difficult to say. I'm guessing that you need to setup IP settings manually.
