Thanks for the detailed information. We need A2DP in OS2008. A2DP sounds
much better than just mono. I hope it gets added soon!

Bluetooth headsets in normal mono HSP mode work well on 2008 - you can
pair one, it will be detected as HSP and will be automatically
connected/reconnected.

But as far as I am aware of there is no A2DP (stereo) support in OS2008
yet - though the Linux-BlueZ support is quite well by now.
A2DP can have several sub-profiles defining the codec used to transport
the audio stream, one of them is the "sbc" and there is also a MP3
profile, i.e. you can directly stream MP3 data over A2DP to a headset
that supports it. Most stereo headset though only support sbc not MP3 -
and BlueZ A2DP currently only supports sbc.

Long story short: Linux-BlueZ can handle A2DP sbc but this is not yet
properly integrated into OS2008.

I can see an icon for the headset in the FM radio, though it's greyed
out. My connection is also HSP and the OS is 2007. I have not upgraded

There are a number of different Stereo profiles for Bluetooth. I believe
A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) is the most common, but that
relies on other elements that need to be in place. It's also uni
directional. BlueZ supports it in Linux, so in theory, it should work,

You could losing out to your phone. If you phone has been paired with
your headset, when you put the headset in discovery mode, your phone may
pick it up and automatically pair up before a connection with your
tablet can be established. If so, no available bluetooth devices may be
shown on your tablet.

Also beware, even regular Bluetooth can broadcast quite some
distance. If I leave my bluetooth cell phone in my car, my earpiece can
hook up (or remain hooked up) to the phone most anywhere in our 3000 sq
foot house. Take your phone out of bluetooth mode. Ditto for any
laptop or other device that has bluetooth, especially if it's been
paired up with that headset.

Finally, there are stereo bluetooth headsets that apparently can pair
with some (but not) all devices. Possibly because stereo protocols (and
hardware requirements) may be different than mono-headset protocols. I
recently got a bluetooth stereo head set. However, I haven't yet been
able to get it to pair with my tablet or laptop (with bluetooth
dongle). I haven't tried with my phone yet.

Just a wild guess: do you have the FM Radio applet installed? It has a
button that allows you to switch between the speakers and the headset
jack. It might be interfering? I'm not sure if there are other
settings that might affect it.

Also, is the connection type one that makes sense? Mine is HSP (headset).

That is a tricky thing to remember. The first time they are turned on,
headsets are automatically in "pairing mode". After that, you have to
usually hit some sort of button voodoo to get them into it again.

Are you sure the headset itself is in pairing mode?To activate pairing mode
on the H350, start with the headset turned off, then press and hold the call
button until the indicator light turns on and stays steadily lit. At this
point the headset should be visible to the N800. If it is, attempt to pair
with the headset and enter the default passcode for the headset (located in

The procedure with the headset itself is of course the same as with
