Indications with maps.
Now that Nokia announced that navigation with indications will be free forever, I'd like to know if we'll be able to do that with the N900. Maybe I missed the info somewhere else, but if somebody can tell me something or point me to the info, I'd be pleased. Hola Xavi, As I understand it, the current version of Ovi Maps for Maemo (1.0) is not at the same release level (featurewise) as Ovi Maps for Symbian (Maps v 3.0). We'll have to wait to see if the release Maps for Maemo with the same basic, required features as Maps for Symbian has. Re: Indications with maps.
I think it's pretty safe to assume that at some point in the near future, the Ovi Maps for Maemo will be free. I suspect the Maps team is very busy updating all the Symbian clients and ironing out the bugs in the recent releases. I was hoping for some Maemo-related announcement during MWC, but so far, nothing... That's why I'm hoping for an update to the app in general. It's the main blocking factor for me using an N900. The Symbian version was always free, but the voice navigation was subscription-based. That became free about a month ago. K On Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 11:17 AM, Paul Hartman paul.hartman+ma...@gmail.compaul.hartman%2bma...@gmail.com wrote: On Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 12:58 PM, Kevin T. Hi, 2010/2/19 Xabier Rodriguez Calvar xrcal...@igalia.com: Now that Nokia announced that navigation with indications will be free forever, I'd like to know if we'll be able to do that with the N900. Maybe I missed the info somewhere else, but if somebody can tell me something or point me to the info, I'd be pleased. Nokia is moving all is applications, OS ecc... to be Qt based, so I really expect a Qt based Ovi Maps application someday. Even if Harmattan won't be ported to N900, it's users will be able to use Harmattan applications anyway thanks to official Qt support for N900 too. Until now Maemo was only an experimental OS, but I think that the fusion with Moblin that made MeeGo and in particular the fact that we're all expecting the final step from them, all these things will bring more and more applications to N900 and future N, so I really think that we'll have this feature too. n.b: this is just my personal hopinion and it would be nice to have some confirmation, but I think we'll have to wait some months to know... -- Andrea Grandi email: a.grandi [AT] gmail [DOT] com website: http://www.andreagrandi.it PGP Key: http://www.andreagrandi.it/pgp_key.asc ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
