I had this when updating the OS the last time. I disabled extras-testing
and extras-devel, and the upgrade & app install went through fine. Like
you, I had lots of space on root - I think there is something wrong with
the space requirements calculation since PR1.

I believe that there is a maemo bug open about this issue - IIRC I added
a comment after having the issue.

Cheers,
Dave.

You need to install the package "rootsh", and afterwards you can use
the command "sudo gainroot". The prompt will change and end in a "#".
Now you can use the command line for package installation. "apt-get
install shopper" will install shopper (well, at least it should).
This is basically what the package manager does anyway, but apt-get is
more verbose, so we can expect it to throw some nice error messages.

I tried to key in root in X Terminal but it shows not found.

you seem to have plenty of space on root. I am not sure what is
causing the error.

can you install the application from the command-line? execute the
following from the "root" prompt and post the output:
apt-get install shopper

Not Enough Space in Application Install Memory

2010-07-07 Thread khalid khan
Hi,

I am facing a problem to install new applications either from OVI or
through App.Manager (from maemo.org)

My N900 phone memory: 15.42 GB available & Memory for installable
applications is 240.9 MB available

Even though I am just installing a simple app for eg. Shopper which is
only 125 kB i get this message Pop Up: "Not enough space in
application install memory Uninstall some applications to free enough
space for this installation"

So I don't understand why this is happening, how can I rectify this.

Thanks
