The problem turned out to be simple:
The upper right panel on the calendar lists a set of calendars that the
calendar program can display. Presumably, it merges them. Each calendar
has a check-box beside it (which I, as new used, thought was a mere
decoration). Somehow the (only) entry for my own calendar had become
unchecked. Once diagnosed, problem was easy to solve -- I just checked
my calendar again. Detailed discussion is available at
