Presumably the subject of Jeffrey's original post (Recipient not found
on server).

I've never seen it before in those words, but I suspect it means exactly
what it says: there is no such username as the one you're trying to send
to on whatever hostname the email address has.

The fact that you're getting this message tends to imply that outgoing
email *is* working: it's the address that's wrong. If you're sure the
address is right, then try sending a message to an entirely different
address and see if that works.

Actually, it's the other network that blocks it, not yours, in order to
reduce spam. My ISP has a secondary SMTP port, which can be off their net.

That is the most probable explanation, but I think it's worth mentioning
that this error message may result from various errors in the Email
client: As I've understood it, "Recipient not found" actually means
"server returned error at RCPT TO stage" -- user can then make educated
guesses as to which error it actually was:

tcpdump or server logs are probably the only way to be sure -- trying a
known good server like gmail might be good first option though.

It probably means that you're using an SMTP-server outside it's own
network.
Ie. many ISPs won't allow you to use their SMTP server when your's not
using their network.

You could set another SMTP server that *does* work for the network
you're
in (there's even 'Connection-specific SMTP), or use a global
SMTP-provider
(ie, use Gmail SMTP server, even if you don't use it for incoming mail)

Best wishes,
Dirk.

It means (in my case at least) that the SMTP authentication was not set
correctly (None instead of Login).
