Fair enough, but XP is still the most used Windows version used by roughly
half of all Windows users [1], so mandriva-seed is still useful for a lot
of people.

As Anne already pointed, Mandriva seed does not work on Windows Vista and 7.

Either we could fix it, or find another way for Windows 7 and Vista users.

If you feel like doing it, then by all means do so, it will be greatly
appreciated, as will any other thing with the artwork that you see.

Thinkin of it, if you want to make the logo more noticeable, you could make
it glow between bright and dark, with one glow cycle matching one spin

There is an easy to follow step by step user-contributed tutorial on how to

It was written for Mandriva 2009.1 but I guess it should be usable for

I would like to post a bug/comment, but I can not guess which package
should I bug against...

In short, at grub graphic menu, when timeout starts to run and the spinners
well, so, spin, the icon inside the spinner jumps up and down as if it is
misaligned in some of the steps.

Where are those icons (to double check) ? Which package owns them ?

Please let in rpmdrake-5.28.8.
It's mainly fixing annoying dust after the s/mdv/mga/ changes and
updating the GUI app list:

- typo fixes (#945)
- unfuzzy translations after miss managed s/Mdv/Mageia/ (#455)
- rpmdrake: update GUI package list

See you

I think it would be better to include mandriva help as it for now
instead of not having help at all.
Removing buttons may break layout in some places.

BTW There're not so many Mdv occurences in the text
(eg: 20 occurences in french help, after excluding titles that are no shown
and index.html which isn't used in drakx)

No, it's only a few steps with 'dd', and for those who love GUIs, I
just did a test:
mandriva-seed.sh also works on Mageia and with Mageia ISOs. Tested
with Beta2 / KDE and LXDE.

So we should integrate a hint to mandriva-seed into the help.

Hi, I am looking at creating a splash for gnome, however, when looking
for the relevant code, I couldn't find it anywhere. There were some
parts of theme in svn/soft/theme/ia_ora-gnome, however I couldn't see

upstream. Is there any thoughts on how to proceed with this, or are we

[Mageia-dev] retesting upgrade from mdv

2011-04-28 Thread Maarten Vanraes
Hi,

I've been retesting mdv upgrade to mageia with beta2:

- process when smoothly
- summary: not the same country was selected? (#652)
possibly, it wen like this:
A) language is asked, (for me it's Dutch (.nl))
B) keyboard layout is asked (for me, it's Belgian layout; selected by default)
C) default country is set for that choosing from multiple options (mine is
belgium? not Netherlands)

Well changing name of distro is quite a big change. Also it means we
will have to be careful all the time and ask each we do changes. Which
is hardly manageable. Finally documentation needs some updates: all
screenshots, and some big updates as it's really old on some parts

question is: does s/mandriva/mageia/ (I'm not even sure there're
occurences in drakx help) is "substantively modified versions of this
document"

Re: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion: what to do with iso?

2011-04-28 Thread David Sjölin
Hello!

I remember that when I created a usb from ISO I had some strange
problem making the USB bootable. Maybe some comment on how to do that?
I don't remember how I did it then, but I assume using fdisk or
something? Dismount the USB, fidks /dev/sdb1 (or whatever it could be
on the users computer) and change the bootable flag (?). And a comment
on how to find the device for the USB.

Other than that this looks like a good design.

David

I would prefer to not link the download page to our temporary wiki, as it
doesn't look that good imho.

an extra translatable page on the website would sound good, i suppose:

rough format:
-
What to do with this iso file?

first, choose the right one for you.
==> explanation about 32bit/64bit
==> mention about dualboot
==> mention about live iso and how you can install that if you want
==> mention about the other isos and briefly what they mean

option 1) burn it to CD/DVD with your favourite CD/DVD burner
==> examples with small screenshot from windows/macosx/linux
==> notice on size of iso and CD or DVD format, notion about RW also being ok
==> explanation of verifying md5sum

option 2) how to put an iso on a stick?
==> examples with small screenshot from windows/macosx/linux
==> explanation of verifying md5sum

option 3) virtualisation
==> briefly mention XEN/KVM/Vbox/VMWare
==> explanation of importance of verifying an md5sum

something like this...

Hello,

works fine here.

The only one small problem I notice is with drakxservices.
drakxservices display that vboxadd-timesync is stopped when "service
vboxadd-timesync status" return running.

In documentation

"Copyright © 2009 Mandriva SA

This material may only be distributed subject to the terms and
conditions set forth in the Open Publication License, v1.0 or later
(the latest version is presently available at opencontent.org).

When we had a look on it we discovered that it could be a full
copyleft license provided there is no restriction. Which is not the
case for Mandriva
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Publication_License. This has been
checked also with Neodoc who worked on it for years

About the license issue, isn't that a non issue:
$ rpm -qp --qf '%{license}\n'
mandriva-doc-installer-help-2010.1-1.0mdv2010.1.noarch.rpm
Open Publication License

There's no additional restrictions neither in the package nor in its
mandriva-doc SRPM

Given our target audience and seeing how this is going to be our first

It's always good to have this kind of documentation, that we can
provide on the download page for after use.

Related docs:
 * http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Draklive#Building_a_live_CD_or_live_USB

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Installing_Mandriva_Linux#Installation_from_a_USB_stick
 * maybe others I didn't find

about this, but no equivalent doc on our side for now (in Wiki or website).

So someone to write an article about this is welcome.

Note that Ubuntu does something quite nice as well about this (the
"show me how" thing):

Re: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion: what to do with iso?

2011-04-28 Thread David Sjölin
Hello!

I think it would be a good idea to have clear instructions on how to
put it on a USB. I bought a netbook a couple of years ago, and I
couldn't get any distribution to install except Ubuntu Netbook
Edition, and that's not the one I wanted, so instructions on how to
get Mageia to install from USB would definitely be a good idea. In
addition, I've noticed that nowadays a lot of non-netbooks laptops
with 12" screens also ship without DVD-player so it's becoming a
bigger problem (unless you have an external DVD-drive).

Since Mageia comes from Mandriva, maybe instructions on how to create
the USB from Windows and from Mandriva (and maybe from a desktop/other
laptop install of Mageia)?

Regards,

David
