[Mageia-dev] Mageia versus Mageia.
I have a desktop machine installed with mga2 and a test machine installed with cauldron both machines are up to date (according to distrib-coffee) and are time-synced with fr.pool.ntp.org. this morning the cauldron machine is one hour in advance (and wrong). Is this transient or should i open a bugzilla ticket? if this help on my work mga2 machine # rpm -qa | grep timezone timezone-2012c-1.mga2 and on the cauldron's one # rpm -qa | grep timezone timezone-2012g-1.mga3 timezone-java-2012g-1.mga3 * in France we switched to winter time this night. Does one system have windows installed as well? If so, it might have been configured automatically at install to use the BIOS time as local time (instead of UTC time), and depend on Windows handling it. You might need to reboot into Windows one time, so that it syncs again your BIOS time. -- Olivier Blin - blino
[Mageia-dev] Small project for a Python programmer
OK here's the challenge. When we view rpm specs in svn using viewvc like this :- http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/acidrip/current/SPECS/acidrip.spec?view=markup ...the highlighting is incorrect, because viewvc uses pygments to generate the language highlighting and it sadly has no lexer for rpm spec files. In many cases the highlighting is totally wrong like this:- http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/abiword/current/SPECS/abiword.spec?revision=304568view=markup ...as viewvc makes an incorrect assumption about the lexer needed, based on a parse of the first line. It's horrible. What is needed is a lexer for rpm spec files. This would not be too difficult for an experienced Python programmer as the building blocks are all in place within pygments :- http://pygments.org/docs/lexerdevelopment/ If you view any spec file using the kate editor, you will see the style of highlighting that is needed. Not only would this benefit Mageia, but all projects using rpm and viewvc. So that's the challenge - anyone up for it? :)
[Mageia-dev] ANN: Persistent journal logs now enabled.
Hi, Just a quick announcement that I've enabled persistent journal logs in systemd. This means the journal logs for your machine will be written in /var/log/journal. You will now be able to use journalctl to get log information about more than just the current boot. You are also free to set up Forward Secure Sealing on the journal logs in order to detect when logs have been tampered with in the event of a breaking. As the journal can capture all syslog logs, systemd now also provides syslog-daemon. If we decide that the journal should be optional for mga3 we will simply move the virtual provides and the ownership of the /var/log/journal folder to a subpackage, but for now, everyone will get it and see how we get on! You are now free to rpm -e rsyslog and do away with legacy logging. For more info on how to use journalctl, please read here: http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/journalctl.html For developers who want to enable journal logging in their apps (beyond the simple capabilities of syslog) see here: http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/journal-submit.html Col -- Colin Guthrie colin(at)mageia.org http://colin.guthr.ie/ Day Job: Tribalogic Limited http://www.tribalogic.net/ Open Source: Mageia Contributor http://www.mageia.org/ PulseAudio Hacker http://www.pulseaudio.org/ Trac Hacker http://trac.edgewall.org/
