Any suggestions?

You're mixing issues here.

pam only deals with authentication and authorization. The problem is not
to make a choice from pam_unix, or pam_pwdb, or pam_tcb, but to express
the fact than an user can authenticate from either local password
database or ldap passwd database:

auth sufficient pam_unix
auth sufficient pam_ldap use_first_pass
auth required pam_deny.so

Most modules accept debug option to help troubleshooting.

Once you resolved your authentication and authorization issues for both
users (console login, su, whatever), you can deal with the list of
people enumerated in gdm, but in gdm configuration.

Also, the documentation you're using is a bit outdated:
- bdb makes more sense today than ldbm as storage backend
- ssha is a better choice than crypt for default password encoding scheme
- using a rootdn with a password defined in slapd.conf is quite discussable
- ACLs such as 'access to dn=.*,dc=mylan,dc=net' would better be
defined as 'access to dn.subtree=dc=mylan,dc=net' (no regex involved)
- examples given use rfc2307 schema, whereas rfc2307bis (group
membership defined through dn, not uids) is a better choice
- and more important: nss_ldap and pam_ldap are getting deprecated
nowadays, in favor or nss_pam_slapd, or sssd.

A versioned rpm-helper Require had to be added to lots of packages (by

issues appear this time round (mga2 - mga3) so defining these versions
as macros should allow easier bumping of this in the future (it'll no

Hi

Please let in urpmi rpmdrake:

- rpmdrake: misc fixes for global progress bar fallout
(closing mcc in mcc, signature checking reporting, ...)

urpmi:
==
- library:
o enable to report packages signature checking in global progress bar dialog
- gurpmi2:
  o improved layout:
* only the package list needs a scrolling bar
* always display space information
o display the addionnal space that will be used and the amount of downloaded
packages instead of the total size of the packages (like urpmi)
  o fix return value (mga#9519)
o report packages signature checking in global progress bar dialog

rpmdrake:
=
- merge patch for mga#4918
- better dialog destruction
- fix closing rpmdrake in mcc (mga#9332)
- signature verification:
o do not update progress bar
o use gurpm for informing (mga#9520)
- update GUI package list

Re: [Mageia-dev] ANN: Upgrading from Mageia 2 via urpmi

2013-03-24 Thread Luca Olivetti
Al 24/03/13 13:08, En/na Colin Guthrie ha escrit:

 0) In the Mageia 3 Upgrade Preparation NetworkManager stopped
working, in its place the network applet was used (after the upgrade
 both worked).

Yeah, this is due to various folders disappearing... I guess I should
probably do something clever in that package. Perhaps I could look at
the folders in /var/run and their respective owners etc., then write a
file in /etc/tmpfiles.d with them detailed.

Then when the package is removed again later (automatically as part of
the upgrade) this file would be removed. This should mask most of the
errors. It's not fool proof but it'll probably be enough to avoid
problems in this case. Will add to my TODO :)

Maybe it's just enough to put it in the wiki, so that one knows what to
expect.

Eventually I had to kill dbus-send to go on with the upgrade

I guess I'll have to find a way to time this out... perhaps adding
--reply-timeout would work. It would be nice if your VM was in a state
to be able to test if this has any effect?

Sure, I have a snapshot before the update just for that (i.e., I want to
be absolutely sure that the upgrade to the final mageia 3 works smoothly
before even attempting to upgrade the real machine). The only problem is
that the update takes roughly 3 hours.
Ping me when you want me to test again.

 8) I had some problem rebooting (I was using a konsole in kde), the kde
menu bar didn't work, trying to do an acpi shutdown didn't work, text
console didn't work. Eventually I just pulled the virtual plug.

Yeah one of the many problems related to online updates really :) the
reboot command should work, but :)

The problem is I already closed the working konsole (silly me) and at
that point I couldn't do anything but pull the plug

 9) plymouthd complained but I hadn't time to write down the message, it
eventually booted fine (but with no graphical menu, probably because the
initrd was generated running the Mageia 3 Upgrade Preparation entry).

It shouldn't really matter too much to be honest. The upgrade prep
option should be almost identical to a regular boot other than an
additional check will be done on each boot thereafter. But as
rpm-mageia-setup package is removed on upgrade and with it the menu
entry, it shouldn't get in the way too much.

I performed the update under the Mageia 3 Upgrade Preparation and,
since that had no graphical boot, the resulting new kernel also has no
graphical boot. To restore it I had to manually run dracut once booted
in mageia 3.
Maybe I should have performed the update rebooting into the regular
mageia 2? The wiki isn't clear about it.

Bye

[Mageia-dev] Freeze push : opencpn

2013-03-24 Thread PhilippeDidier
Please push opencpn (A ship-borne GUI application for navigation).

this application was not present in Mageia2
Barry Jackson mentored me to propose the first rpm of the previous
version inside Cauldron (opencpn-3.0.2)

So, it's a leaf package which doesn't bring any problem when upgrading
from Mageia2 to Mageia3...

this new version 3.2.0 is a maintenance update, and brings, too,
enhanced functions :
enhanced navigation instrument input and output (allowing the use of a
wider choice of GPS, AIS and NMEA connected stuff such as autopilots)
better quilted display of the digital charts
improved AIS receiver interfacing
improved Tide and current prediction

This is a navigation software written and tested by sailors who take
care about bugs in such a software !!! (lots of beta versions have been
deeply tested before this new release)

Fortunately this version is ready for the next Mageia3 :-)
