Sorry, I have installed mageia 3 b 4 just for testing and I had to
install quickly this little server in school. So i have changed the
system without copying any report.

The only message I remenber is that it does not find device (raid
controller on Intel c200) and does not mount partitions.
I know it is without interest for debugging.

So it'is a fud launched by grub2 developpers when they recommend
installing it only on the MBR.

Since the apparition of grub2 all that is almost unclear.

Lack of communication or understandability I don't know but the fact is
that grub2 is a problem for many users.

If we add EFI UEFI (of course not linux fault) it is a easyless
installing one or different Gnu/linux systems than 3 years ago.

But perhaps I am a stupid linux user since 13 or 14 years and I should
have to buy Apple product or W8 ;-)

Same philosophy as gnome3 : only me.

Of course it can.

But I am not talking about mailers : only about mail checkers to warn
if there is new mail in any mailbox (in spooler or in home directory and
in various mailbox format).

[Mageia-dev] Not very important require about mail checker.

2012-11-21 Thread André Salaün
Hello !

Is it possible to reintroduce gnubiff in Mageia 3. All mail checkers (in
mga 2) depend on a wm. In kde they don't check
the mail spooler, only kmail, gmail, thunderbird etc. Gnubiff is
more versatile.

If I am wrong excuse me ;-) (but tell me which mail checker is running
under every wm and able to check /var/spool/mail or
$HOME/ in a mbox format).

Anyway thank you for your job : Mageia 2 seems to be very stable.

No I don't think, smart and smart-gui can do that.
Furthermore, if you break drakrpm and/or urpmi (using unofficlal
sources or testing) it can run because based on python.
For me it is a good complement to urpmi (whith urpmisync like in
Mandriva)... when it works (I had o lot of problems in Mandriva
2010.1 2010.2 with urpmi synchronisation)

[Mageia-dev] Mageia B1 fresh install

2011-04-07 Thread André Salaün
I installed freshly Mageia B 1 i586 on a Athlon 3500 proc and nv chipset
with a graphic card nvidia 9500gt.

Nothing to say : every thing goes well and rapidly during process
install.
At the end, it proposed to update packages for security I approved
(ethernet connection) : all was right.

I installed grub on partiton (I am using Gag on MBR) : no problem.

So, for me it is a hat-trick concerning installation process on that
old hardware.

Furthurly I will try on a Acer netbook with radeon wifi and a touchpad
not fully functional on Mandriva... perhaps it will be more
problematical... we'll see.

[Mageia-dev] Alpha 2 fresh install dvd i586

2011-03-16 Thread André Salaün
On a old computer (Athlon 64, printer epson c82, scanner epson 1650
photo, usb wireless keyboard and mouse, ethernet network)

Installation stage (choice kde) :
All good but :

-Boot loader : no choice, I had to volontary select "configure" in the
last summary page . I hope final release will give the choice between
MBR and partition.

-updating the source : ok
-updating packages : no because of hald

suggestion : Do you want to copy DVD source on HD ? (something like
that)

First boot
perfect.

Updating :
packages are updated but, after, auto-orphans propose to remove 192
packages.

Printer epson stylus C82
is not installed. I use drakconf : errors :

drakconf

So no printer.

Scanner epson 1650 photo
Like in Mandriva : I have to use manual choice, then it runs

Traduction (in drakconf-> printer) is incomplete.

This is my first feeling.

Grub2 or Grub ?
Do you know decison of grub2 developpers about installing it on partition boot

I don't agree with that "no choice" position, it remenbers me some others OS...
and no choice no liberty, incompatible with Gnu-Linux imho.
