Is there a nice rpm I can easily download and use for the 3.0 kernel,
otherwise what is the location for the media so that I can add it?

It's in the core repository. It's just the latest version of the kernel
package. A normal update of cauldron will bring it in by default.

(I think Jeff is using mga1, not Cauldron).

This is my main home computer, so I am not using cooker. I did not see
the 3.0 kernel in the main repository. Can I just install the single
RPM or are there a lot of new dependencies versus the 2.6.38 series?

Thank you,

I rebooted without the parameter and the results are the same. However,
I found out that it only hangs when there is not CD/DVD in the drive. I
still get no DVD in the device notifier and no symlinks are created when
booting with a DVD in the drive.

Thank you,

Jeff

Hello,

I updated my system and it installed the latest kernel
(2.6.38.8-desktop). When I rebooted the system it hung when starting
udev. I shut down the system after 1 minute.

When I booted into kernel 2.6.38.7-desktop, udev started in less than 10
seconds.

Also, neither kernel/udev created the /dev/dvd or /dev/sr0 symlinks.
When I created the /dev/dvd symlink I had to change the permission of
the original device to 0x666 from 0x660 so that the software could play
the DVD.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Ouch,

Can you try kernel-linus-2.6.38.8-1 to rule out (or not) additional
patches in core kernel...

It still happens with the vanilla kernel.

Also, the vanilla kernel doesn't like my dual head. The screen is too
large. Thank you to whoever modified the kernel to work with a screen
size of 2704x1050.
