I was testing some games, and quake2 seemed to be broken by default... 1st, it seems for regular quake2 (and the 2 mods shipped) that you need the demo downloaded. (no install script was provided)
2nd, it required one of the renderers, which were not installed, by default it was the quake2-x11 one. (perhaps that one should be suggested?) 3rd, when running it with GLX, it couldn't find libGL.so (which is normal, because my nvidia setup, there is libGL.so.1) but this seems hardly fixable, i don't know how other graphic card setups or mesa or ATI will react? 4th, sound didn't work, (possibly due to OSS usages) i tried to use soundwrapper on it, but #1070 happend, and soundwrapper segfaulted. To completely fix this, this seems like quite some work and then i'm not sure if this would be enough to put through version freeze. Secondly, perhaps games like this (packages that require some non- redistributable packages, which are still freely obtained) should maybe need a policy? eg: - script is always provided to get the non-redistributable part. - display a text notification after install that the script to fetch whatever needed, still needs to be run to be able to play this game So, perhaps this is something to be discussed for after final release...
