[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1100836] Re: Add pages to multiple collections
I spent some time a few months ago trying to implement this feature. It turns out to be a lot more complicated in terms of implementation that it is conceptually. What the problem boils down to is that currently collections don't have their own access control settings. Instead, we simulate this by syncing up the access controls of all the pages in a collection so that they match up. In order to have a comprehensive ability to put a single page into multiple collections, we'd either need to decouple permissions from collections (so that the pages in a collection can have separate permissions from one another; kind of like a Flickr photo "set"), or we'd have to let collections have their own permissions. Letting collections have their own permissions turns out to require a fairly comprehensive change in Mahara, with nearly every script that checks page access (which is a lot of them) needing a bit of a rewrite. "ungluing" collections so that the pages in them can have different access permissions, is a bit simpler, but turns out to have a few weird corner cases that make it very complicated. These include the "accessconfhash" column (which is how we determine the checkboxes that allow you to say "set all these pages to have the same permissions"), and group submissions. Another area of tricky corner cases has to do with Collection URL's. Currently, there is no true URL for a Collection by itself; instead, the URL for the Collection is the URL of the first page in the Collection. So, if Pages can belong to multiple Collections, you have to consider whether you'll create a separate URL for the Page-in-that-Collection, and how you'll deal with the legacy URLs to the Collection out there which now just go to the Page-by-itself, and so forth. I wound up abandoning the effort because it had the potential to cause widespread bugs in Mahara (since it was such a broad code change) for a relatively modest pay-off. Nonetheless, this would still be a good feature to include, because it makes no logical sense for it to be absent. It'll just require some careful thought and extensive testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 548311] Re: Support for Time Zones of users in Mahara
This would still be great to have, but it'll be quite an undertaking. As others have mentioned, the most common way of doing this is to store the dates in UTC in the database, and then before displaying it to the user, converting it to that user's chosen timezone. The annoying thing is that we'll need to track down every place in the code that a date is displayed to the user and do this conversion. A lot of these will have been passed through format_date(), so putting a conversion in there will cover all of those, but there are sure to be quite a few where format_date() was bypassed. We'll also need a one-time script to convert all the stored dates in the database from their current time to UTC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. While there is an 'are you sure' message before deleting some objects (eg journal entries), it's not available everywhere (eg in the file section). Rather than slowing down the process for deleting unwanted content, simply increasing the space between the two buttons (and perhaps their size) would make them easier and safer to use - both for people with poor mouse control and those using mobile/tablet devices. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1067724] Re: Unable to read language directory
I was unable to replicate the error in 1.5_STABLE. From looking at the glob() documentation ( http://php.net/glob ) I note that the glob function is meant to just return an empty array if it can't find anything, or false on error. So, it's possible that some environments may be causing glob to error out, and the code isn't handling that properly. There's also this: "Note: On some systems it is impossible to distinguish between empty match and an error. " It's unclear whether that means that an empty match returns false, or whether it means that an error returns an empty array. But the return value that Jan noted (nearly 1 year ago today) is what you get when you cast boolean false as an array: var_dump((array) false); array(1) { [0]=> bool(false) } ** Changed in: mahara Milestone: 1.8.0 => 1.8.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. This is a bit misleading as the artefact is not a page. Since you are on a web page, the "Add page to watchlist" link could be misunderstood as the artefact page being added to the watchlist, but it is actually the page in which the artefact appears that is added. I am fairly sure there is a bug in xmlrpc/lib.php find_remote_user() because if I change the authentication of a user in Mahara to be from a specific Moodle, I can export from that Moodle but not the other, and vice versa. This makes sense if each user from different systems (even if they have the same username) is treated as a different user, which is default behaviour. However I have the config option of usersuniquebyusername set so that users from different systems with the same username are treated as the same user. $cfg->usersuniquebyusername = true; In this case I would expect Mahara NOT to try and confirm that the source of the user is the same one listed within Mahara as their authentication method. My gut reaction is that the find_remote_user function in xmlrpc/lib.php (line 125) should be checking for the CFG value of usersuniquebyusername and if set then specifically NOT discriminate by authentication method. So something along the lines of the following, changing line 134 from: $authinstances = auth_get_auth_instances_for_institution($institution); to: if (get_config('usersuniquebyusername')) { $authinstances = auth_get_auth_instances(); } else { $authinstances = auth_get_auth_instances_for_institution($institution); } To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/988254/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors Post to : mahara-contributors@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 794364] Re: Moodle Portfolio plugin for Mahara creates a bunch of identically-named journals in the Mahara side
I've noticed this as well. There is a Moodle "portfolio" plugin that allows data from Moodle to be exported to Mahara. Each time you do this, it creates a new Journal in Mahara with the name "data Imported from Leap2A export from Moodle for {firstname lastname}". It would be non-trivial to fix this, so it's not on our roadmap at the moment unless we get some funding or there is a community contribution for it. I recently looked into fixing this for a client (who unfortunately declined to fund its fixing). It turns out to be quite tricky. The way the portfolio plugin works, is that it just generates a leap2a file with the Moodle content, and then Mahara imports that fragmentary leap2a file. Mahara's failsafe mode for importing a leap2a, when it's not able to figure out any other content type to map it to, is to import it as a new journal following that naming title. There are a few possible fixes. Maybe the easiest would be to structure the leap2a in a way that allows Mahara to process it into a Page or something, or a journal with a better title. Another way to go, according to my notes, there's a "steal_control()" method one could use during the Moodle->Mahara export process which would allow Mahara to drive the process a bit. Using this Mahara, could present the user with a list of journals, and let the user pick which one the content should wind up in. Then you'd need to add some metadata to the leap2a file to indicate this, and then alter the Mahara leap2a import process to pick up on that metadata and use it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. The webserver takes "now" in it's local timezone, formatted as a date/time (text), and puts it into the INSERT statement. The DB sees that, interprets it as the formatted date/time, but in it's time zone (UTC), which is some number of hours offset from the actual time. It stores that as a unix epoch time (seconds from 00:00:00 1-1-1970). When this is sent back to the client, the epoch time is converted back to the local timezone, and it displays as some number of hours offset. The simplest solution is to set the timezone on the MySQL connection, forcing the text date/time values to be interpreted as being in that timezone; they are stored correctly in epoch format, which will then display properly on viewing. It's a simple patch: --- lib/dml.php.orig 2013-05-22 22:33:27.229452915 -0400 +++ lib/dml.php 2013-05-22 22:35:44.403280333 -0400 @@ -1474,6 +1474,9 @@ if (is_mysql()) { $db->Execute("SET SQL_MODE='POSTGRESQL'"); +if(!empty($CFG->dbtimezone)) { + $db->Execute("SET time_zone='$CFG->dbtimezone'"); +} } It requires you to set dbtimezone in config.php, to the timezone of the server (so maybe it's a poorly named option; I'm open to alternative suggsions). During auto-creation of the account, the user must supply a first and last name, but that might already be too late if the journal is actually created before then. Thus, the mandatory fields should be filled in first before anything else is created. The default journal setting should not be changed to always be updated to the user's current first and last name as users could have renamed it to something else. When editing an existing post, when you click add file, a new page is drawn but it doesn't show the part of the page where you can select files (ie there shoudl be an html anchor or soemthing) When editing an existing post, when you click add file, then click select on a file, it is automatically added to the post before you click save. When editing an existing post, and you add a file, you can't click save to get out of that page. instead it tags an extra &browse=1 to the url (/artefact/blog/post.php?id=42&browse=1&browse=1). Clicking cancel works, but all non-file changes are lost To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1052430/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors Post to : mahara-contributors@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
