[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 547470] Re: Content Clearly Associated with Institutions
Each artefact contains the author in the metadata, which says whether it's a person, group, or institution. I can't find anyway to know what content (views, blogs, forums, groups) are associated with which institutions. While it's nice that a single user (student or educator) can access all content from multiple institutions in once place, it seems logical to want to know which content elements are associated with which institutions. I would assume this would need to be displayed in multiple places. Similarly, it would be nice to have some sort of toggle to be able to view all content just from one institution at a time. In our case, we have a large scale network composed of individual schools. The collaborative network is one institution that everyone participates in, and then each school has their own institution for their local communities. Sort of like a "disrict" vs "individual schools". So - there will be distinctly different content needs for these two different types, and it would be nice to be able to clearly know which content came from which institution. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 547330] Re: Guest access to portfolios
Proper accounts for people in institutional contexts is difficult as experience has shown as IT often doesn't want to maintain those. However, there needs to be a way to authenticate "guests" to ensure that only authorized people give feedback on portfolios. A secret URL is not a great way for that as anybody can pick a name. These could be "on-the-fly" accounts that have a short life span, don't allow for the creation of portfolios or participation in groups, but only for the purpose of giving feedback. Alternatively, other options can be explored that don't require accounts. ** Summary changed: - View invitations to non-members. + Guest access to portfolios -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. Matching subscriptions: Subscription for all Mahara Contributors -- please ask on #mahara-dev or mahara.org forum before editing or unsubscribing it! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/547330 Title: Guest access to portfolios Status in Mahara: Confirmed Bug description: If you read Attwell and others who are advocating eportfolio use, you will find that an eportfolio should belong to the students and that they should have access to this throughout their lifetime. Being able to create specific views for different purposes is critical to the success of this approach. Mahara is on the right track in this regard, however, there needs to more flexibility in terms of how those views can be shared. My preference would be for instances of Mahara to be hosted by independent companies/institutions that provide low cost accounts for anyone who wishes to have an eportfolio. In this case the school/university/business could subsidise this cost for the period of time the student/employee is with the organisation, so there is an opportunity for the individual to keep and add to their work when they leave. To this end, I would like to see the capability of inviting audiences, by email, to see a view of your portfolio by registering as free guest in the Mahara instance. This way the need to provide public views and secret URLs would be removed and a public view would then only be used for a wider audience when the portfolio owner required this to happen. By bringing people to Mahara in a guest capacity you expose more people to Mahara and and keep the intimacy that is often required for specific purposes--not everyone wants a particular view to be publicly available to those not in the community. Keep up the excellent work, Scot. This is a directory that can be renamed, and even moved around in a user's file structure. And it can have files/folders inside it, which can be moved in and out. But the directory cannot be removed. That directory ID is known by the code. When views are copied, the folder which contains files copied from that View is put in this nondeletable folder. This stops the problem of copying a folder named 'viewfiles' causing an infinite loop. The blogfiles folder can be replaced with using this folder too. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1730263] Re: wrong default option for personal information when importing
This is now happening: In the case of importing a complete portfolio and the personal information contained in the XML is different than the logged in user, display it with default option = 'Replace'. Still to do: In the case of importing just a few pages/collections and the personal information contained in the XML is different than the logged in user, display it with default option = 'Ignore'. ** Tags added: bite-sized -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. After uploading the file, the personal information will be displayed with an option 'Ignore' or 'Replace' depending on whether the data in the XML matches or not with the logged in user's information. This data is taken from the tag in the xml, that is present in all exported XMLs, even in the ones that are created to export only one page. So any Leap2A import will by default replace the firstname, lastname and email of the user doing the import with the one in the XML, if the data is different (comes from another user's export). The user doing the import can always change the option to 'Ignore' but this is not the ideal situation. The way it should work: In the case of importing a complete portfolio and the personal information contained in the XML is different than the logged in user, display it with default option = 'Replace'. They were inserted as relative links. However, when you go to the static pages section, select a link and view it in the link pop-up or in the HTML source, the URL is expanded to the current full path, i.e. [wwwroot]/admin/site/about.php and [wwwroot]/admin/site/contact.php Those pages don't exist. Normally, TinyMCE only adds the full wwwroot when a relative link is given, but in the static pages it adds the full URL to the current admin section. Maybe that's due to it being a default text? Matching subscriptions: Subscription for all Mahara Contributors -- please ask on #mahara-dev or mahara.org forum before editing or unsubscribing it! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607131 Title: Bring SQL transaction support back to MySQL Status in Mahara: Triaged Bug description: To resolve Bug 1514608 (Mahara locking when multiple simultaneous users are active), we disabled SQL transaction support in MySQL. Specifically, the "db_begin()", "db_rollback()", and "db_commit()" methods all check "is_myslq()" and return without doing anything if MySQL is in use. As might be expected this has resulted in a few other MySQL-specific bugs popping up, due to race conditions. So, it would be good to add transaction support back to our MySQL driver. However, I think to do so in a way that won't again cause concurrency issues, we need to be much more disciplined in how we use transactions. The MySQL problems were caused because we had very long- lived transactions. For instance, when copying a collection, we would open a transaction at the start of the process, and commit it at the end. Depending on the size of the collection and the pages in it, this could leave that transaction open for up to several minutes. From what I can tell, the MySQL InnoDB storage engine doesn't handle long- running transactions very well, so this causes a problem. Ideally, then, we should use db_begin and db_commit close together only, like in the same function, enclosing some related SQL statements but *not* any calls to other functions that might balloon out in execution time (such as triggering an event). Yet more ideally, we'd have some way of detecting and/or enforcing this automatically in Mahara's code. But I can't see any good way to do that in PHP. At most, we could track the amount of time that passes between class to db_begin() and db_commit(), and issue a warning message when a transaction has a long lifetime. It should be non-hideable. This means setting the "can_be_disabled()" function on it to false. But further than that, there can be (strange) cases where the module gets disabled in the database, which will cause the Inbox block on the standard dashboard page to error out. I think in addition to marking that "can_be_disabled()" flag, we should change the plugin loading functions so that they ignore the "disabled" flag in the database, for plugins that cannot be disabled. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1512894] Re: Leap2A import isn't populating the artefact_file_embedded table for most things
The embedded image problem was resolved along the way and I couldn't replicate it anymore. For the rest, the code needs to be reviewed and investigated if it is still an issue. ** Tags added: review -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. Matching subscriptions: Subscription for all Mahara Contributors -- please ask on #mahara-dev or mahara.org forum before editing or unsubscribing it! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512894 Title: Leap2A import isn't populating the artefact_file_embedded table for most things Status in Mahara: Confirmed Bug description: The artefact_file_embedded table was added with the TinyMCE image picker button. Its purpose is to store the embed relationship, so that it can be checked for permission purposes (I have permission to view this thing; do I then have permission to view this other thing?) Currently, it's somewhat redundant for some purposes, because this relationship is also tracked in the view_artefact & artefact_attachment tables, as well as a couple of other places. But artefact_file_embedded is unique in that it's abstract enough to cover cases that aren't covered by the other tables, such as view descriptions and forum posts. So, for best practice, we should always be populating this table whenever we embed an image into a text field. And we do this pretty much everywhere *except* in Leap2a imports. For Leap2a imports, artefact_file_embedded is populated for images in view descriptions, but not for images embedded in anything else: blog entries, resume fields, text blocks, notes, etc. We should re-use the EmbeddedImage->rewrite_embedded_image_urls_from_import() method, for all imports. By my analysis, it can probably go in (or maybe replace) the call to ImportLeap->fix_artefact_references() in ImportLeap->do_import() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1512894/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors Post to : mahara-contributors@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Unfortunately, this bumps the unzipped web archive contents up over 8MB. Which isn't a whole lot in the scheme of things I suppose, but before we did this, it was about 500kB. The main culprit is the raw/static/fonts directory included in the export, which is 8MB on its own. The opensans folder alone is about 6MB. The typical use-case for these fonts is for people to include them with a rel link to a remote server, like this: We should see if we could make that happen with our export code, in order to reduce the size of the export. You wind up with a copy of the image, but the tag in the Introduction field is a broken link. This is true both for the proper "Introduction" artefact, and the custom per-block "Introduction" field you can use in a "Profile information" block to override your standard "Introduction" artefact. To replicate (introduction artefact): 1. Upload a file into Mahara 2. Go to "Content -> Profile" 3. Using the TinyMCE image button, display your image in the profile's "Introduction" field 4. Create a page with a "Profile information" block. Leave the "Introduction text" field blank (so the block will display your "Content -> Profile" introduction rather than a custom introduction just for that block) 5. Export your whole portfolio to leap2a 6. Import your leap2a into another Mahara site, or a different user on the same site 7. Share the imported page with the Profile information block, with the public. 8. Log out 9. View the page you just shared Expected result: You should see the image in the Profile information block Actual result: You see a broken image link instead To test for the Profile information block's custom per-block "Introduction text", it's similar to the steps above, except that you embed the image into the block's "Introduction text" field instead of into your "Content -> Profile" introduction. To test this one: 1. Log in as site admin 2. Go to "Administration menu". 3. Go to "Institutions". 4. Go to "Settings". That is the first issue mentioned where we used to say "Institutions". Now it's "Settings". 5. Add an institution. 6. Look at the page title. I think this might still be a problem as it only reads "Administer institutions". 7. Give your institution a title. 8. Save. 9. Use case: 1. User logged in to the system with paula.wal...@nuts.nz as a manual account. 2. The account was moved to MNet authentication. 3. User changed their email to paula.ap...@fruits.nz in Moodle. This email address was added to Mahara. 4. User changed email domains to paula.ap...@flora.nz in Moodle. This email address was added to Mahara. User's primary email address is still paula.wal...@nuts.nz although the only one in use is paula.ap...@flora.nz. User cannot change the primary email address or delete obsolete ones because the account is managed by MNet. MNet is set up to update user information upon login, but that doesn't seem to delete email addresses that are not in use anymore. The curious thing: In the administration under "User search", I do see paula.ap...@flora.nz as the active email address for the user. If managed email addresses cannot / should not be deleted, the user should still be able to decide which one the primary one should be.
