[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 898678] Re: Layout: suggest new 2 column with *much* larger right column
Thanks, it would be great to have a two column layout that would be more like 20:80 (and I guess 80:20, though I'm not sure how often I would use that). My reason is to be able to have a navigation block and then lots of space for content. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. I find I'm using the existing 3-column with a much larger centre column for layouts that have a navigation block on the left. It looks neater and more compact than the simple "larger right column" but I could use the extra space of a "much larger column" for content such as tables. As with Bug #1034382 , navigational confusion can arise when users click on a block title and end up look at a page version of the block. I haven't seen a mockup, so am visualizing this in my mind... Are we hanging onto the collection name for a specific user reason, or because it's easier to code? [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 819102] Re: Edit and Select buttons not working for some embed types in some browsers
This bug expired, but I hope it can be renewed...I`m trying to use a Chrome browser to embed an image block and it doesn`t work. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 919656] [NEW] Create a layout for mobile access
Public bug reported: QR codes are all the rage, and available on URL-shortening services like bit.ly. For my employability eportfolio, it would be great to be able to point a QR code on someone's resume to a portfolio page laid out for mobile access. This could provide the other side of mobile access: viewing a portfolio easily on a smartphone. In addition to providing convenient mobile access to employers reading resumes, it could be used by a candidate as supporting evidence in an interview. Teachers could probably think of other purposes for it, likely in assessment. Is this an easy thing to do? Could it be part of core? Has someone already done it? [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 898678] [NEW] Layout: suggest new 2 column with *much* larger right column

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 750301] Re: Accessibility / Screen Reader Issues - various
I see this as a big problem waiting to happen, especially for large educational Mahara implementations. I recently lost a potential contract here in Canada, because the federal government has stated that accessibility is a basic requirement. They were recently successfully sued on an online accessibility issue. It's only a matter of time before a blind or quadriplegic student somewhere, excluded from participating in Mahara, successfully sues the provider for violation of his/her human rights, with costly and disruptive consequences. What would it take to scope this properly so a price tag can be attached to it and funding can be sought? My feeling is that money to redress the issues should be easy to find, and all would benefit. It should be as simple for the user as selecting language. For reference, see: The W3C specification: http://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria/ The new standard in Canada for government web sites: http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?section=text&id=23601 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/750301 Title: Accessibility / Screen Reader Issues - various Status in Mahara ePortfolio: Triaged Bug description: A student who is entirely dependant on a screen reader (in this case WindowEyes) has been through Mahara 1.3.3 and raised a number of accessibility issues as follows: 1. TinyMCE editor It is essential to be able to turn off the TinyMCE editor as screen reader users cannot use this editor. A plain text input field works fine (as per education and employment etc) Already a wishlist here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/548225 But needs to be user choice. 2. Files upload Disclaimer Check box not obvious. Once file 'Browsed' and uploaded, no notification to indicate upload process having completed. Other aspects appear to be in the wrong order for the student. A suggested process path would be: Add a File > Browse > Select > Disclaimer > Upload > Upload Complete dialogue > Storage Space remaining warning. 3. Local Language. More a note to self, but advice to others. If changing Language strings, ensure you also change all instance's to cover ALT text. We use the word "CV" instead of Resumé. Screen readers read Resumé phonetically as "RE-SOOM" Lang files need to include ALT strings. 4. Add and Delete Buttons: ALT text just says 'add' or 'delete' When there are many 'adds' and 'deletes' on a page it is not obvious which resource you are adding or deleting. ALT should say something like (eg) "Add Educational History" or "Delete Educational History BA Hons Business" 5. Creating a View; The student can create a view, but from that point on cannot make any use of drag and drop - partly because the student does not use a mouse and partly because there is no indication where anything has been dropped. Suggested use of radio buttons - process would be pick an artefact > pick a location to put it. It is possible that some or all of the above can be wrapped up into a single 'screenreader' or accessibilty' editing mode with toggle link in the header somewhere. I also note that there are some workarounds that could potentially be adapted from discussions around ie6 versions or ipad versions. It is recognised as quite a challenge to offer a very visual tool to a non-visual user, who would still like to present themselves to a visual audience. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 833867] [NEW] Add "Show Description" to Image Gallery
Public bug reported: I like the image gallery Mahara 1.4 a lot. It's a great way to provide visual evidence, either as a sequence or as a thumbnail index. But I notice that the "Show Description" option available on single images is not available in the Gallery. To see descriptions of individual images, you have to click on each image and open it in a new window, which is not very usable. I think curating images with brief descriptions is very valuable, and showing curated images in sequence (ie slideshow) can build a compelling story. What are the difficulties/downsides of adding this capability to the Image Gallery? I can think of one potential difficulty: what to do with the other main option: thumbnails. Descriptions would look very odd attached to these. But I think a compromise could be found for this, such as clipping the description after a set amount of characters. I'm hoping it would be relatively straightforward to accomplish. Feedback welcome ** Affects: mahara Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833867 Title: Add "Show Description" to Image Gallery Status in Mahara ePortfolio: New Bug description: I like the image gallery Mahara 1.4 a lot. I think it would be better to keep the ad hoc "single use" Text box, but add a new class of artefact if you want to re-use it or allow comments. Something like My Blurbs or My Chunks. My users would also use this for embedded media, much like an External Video block.
