I have also tested this on IPad (Sarafi and Chrome) with Mahara 1.8. It
worked well.

  Site options Users "Users can change page themes" the editing on the
  iPad is disabled completely.

   Blocks cannot be placed and existing blocks cannot be updated.

  The user gets a message saying "Page theme updated successfully" even
  though no new page theme was selected.

  Using Safari or other mobile browsers for the iPad.  Running PHP
  Version 5.3.3-7+squeeze8 and using mysql 5.1.49.

  With the page theme option disabled, it works just fine.

  No way to notify translators that help files have changed

Bug description:
  For normal translatable strings, we can easily notify translators that
  a string has changed in a meaningful way and needs to be translated
  again by changing the key of the string.

  For help files, the key is fixed and we can't easily do that.
  Therefore, it's very likely that help files are quite stale in many of
  the existing translations :(

Bug description:
  According to the Site Files documentation, files uploaded into the
  site files section are meant to be accessible to all logged-in users
  (via the "Site Files" tab on any file selector). The one exception to
  this is files in the hard-coded "Public" folder, which are meant to
  also be accessible to users who aren't logged in.

  A user on the #mahara irc channel reported that Site Files sitting in
  a subdirectory, however, are not accessible to normal users. I
  verified this behavior in 1.8dev.

  To reproduce:

  1. Log in as an admin user
  2. Go to the Site Files page
  3. Create a subdirectory
  4. Upload a file into that subdirectory
  5. Log in as a non-admin user
  6. Add a "files to download" block to a page
  7. In the block's file selector, go to the "site files" page
  8. You will not see the subdirectory you created in step 4, or be able to 
access its files.

  It is also impossible to delete that user under site administration
  since getting that user data fails with the above error...

  To return site to 'normal operation' one has to go to table usr and
  manually edit the new user email to an unique value

  Auth plugins have lots of duplicated code

  Core authentication plugins (e.g. XMLRPC, SAML and LDAP) have a
  significant amount of duplicated code which could lead to certain
  checks not being performed correctly.

  We should look at refactoring some of it to make these plugins more
  robust and easier to maintain. It will also make it much easier for
  contrib plugins that have to extend the same API.

Title:
  Modification dates on shared pages not updating

Bug description:
  When a shared page is modified the date and time listed by the shared
  page is not being updated. The comments date and time when created,
  updates but does not update when the comment is edited.

  The shared page states
  'This page lists the most recently modified or commented on pages that have 
been shared with you.'
  This is misleading. I was thinking the lecturers would be able to see all of 
the recent activity on their students pages, so they have a better way of 
providing feedback to the students.

  The date and time of last modification is correct when the page is
  first shared with another user, but it does not update when any
  modifications or edits to a comment are made.

  Mahara version 1.4.1
  PHP version 5.3.8
  psql (PostgreSQL) 8.4.1

  I have attached a screenshot of an example in a word document along
  with the time and date it was meant to update to assist.

  Can do everything accept drag block types onto the page canvas - i.e.
  cannot add any content to a portfolio when using an android table with
  default browser.

  Given the convenience of tablet computing and android tablet sales
  this could be an issue for many people.

  Honeycomb 3.2 running on a Motorola Xoom.

  The mahara lib/version.php file I have says 1.3.6 though. The moodle's
  version.php shows 2.0.2

  In Mahara, if the institution has only XMLRC authentication, or
  has others but XMLRC is given no parent, then the problem occurs
  exactly as I've described (user data transfers to Mahara from Moodle,
  but user cannot get passed 'logged out user home' and is never asked
  to change password)

  However, If I put Internal auth as a parent to XMLRC on the
  institution, then I get a go around, by the following odd set of
  events occuring:

  I click the Mahara link under network servers in Moodle, and get 
brought to the logged out user home in Mahara
  I do nothing in Mahara, and I go back to Moodle, and click the Mahara 
link again from the network servers block.
  This time, I get transferred to the 'change password' page in Mahara 
and it says on the side (in Mahara) that I am coming in from Moodle.
  After submitting the changed password in Mahara, I get transferred 
once again to the logged out home. But this time, since internal is the auth 
parent, I can log in with the password that was just set.
  No matter which way I order the auths in the institution, the new 
user from Moodle defaults to Internal Auth. I can log in as admin in Mahara and 
change the user's auth method. Then with the auth method changed to XMLRC, the 
user (once logged into Mahara) can jump back and forth between Moodle and 
Mahara. However, the user still needs to initially log in to Mahara, Moodle 
still won't send the user straight in.

  So, in conclusion, I have a weird go around that my students can
  manage to use, with me having to go into each user account and change
  the auth method) - but this really does seem like it should be an easy
  fix. When porting over through XMLRC, Mahara just seems to be setting
  some value incorrectly which is sending the user to the wrong page.

  Also, the wantsurl doesn't seem to be getting set, it just shows
  wantsurl= with nothing after the '=' in the redirect. And if there's a
  place in moodle to set it for the jump, I don't see where.

  Of course, maybe it is still something to do with my setup. I have
  moodle and mahara on the same server, and I know nothing about
  OpenSSL.

  Hopefully this detailed description will help someone see what the
  problem is.

  This view includes text blocks that have been copied and pasted from
  Word without using the Paste from Word button (this is hidden unless
  you go to full screen mode).

  Unfortunately once this happens the content in the view is not able to
  be edited.

  By the way I experimented with the clean messy code button and this
  doesn't seem to have any effect on content pasted from Word - is this
  right?

  Not sure if this is strictly a bug but more using of Word to paste
  content and the htmlpurifier having difficulty purifying the Word

  The view number is
  http://myportfolio.ac.nz/view/view.php?id=13222

  This view includes text blocks that have been copied and pasted from
  Word without using the Paste from Word button (this is hidden unless
  you go to full screen mode).

  Unfortunately once this happens the content in the view is not able to
  be edited.

  By the way I experimented with the clean messy code button and this
  doesn't seem to have any effect on content pasted from Word - is this
  right?

  Not sure if this is strictly a bug but more using of Word to paste
  content and the htmlpurifier having difficulty purifying the Word

Title:
  faulty contact us form with noreplyaddress configdirective

Bug description:
  I am using Mahara 1.3.3 clean install on shared hosting with
  inmotionhosting, linux php 5.3, mysql.  Everything works, but my
  emails sent by mahara are getting blocked.  I had the same problem
  with my moodle installation, but was able to configure it with SMTP
  email and a defined, working noreply address. However, this is not
  working with mahara.

  The mail is actually sent, but is blocked at the destination because
  the user's profile email address is being used as the from field,
  instead of the noreplyaddress as defined.  Since the email is coming
  from another domain, but claiming to be from the same domain as the
  recipient, it's blocked by the receiving mailserver (rightfully so).

  In doing the testing, I was following the troubleshooting info on the
  wiki and using the contact us form to send the test emails.  Peeking
  around the code I see that that is a rather "crude" form that takes
  the email given and passes it on to phpmailer as the from address.
  The from email field is autopopulated since I am logged in, so the
  noreplyaddress is never used in this case.

  After fixing other problems, the contact form submissions still get
  blocked (obviously).  In a case where the noreplyaddress config
  directive is set, the form should be smart enough to substitute that
  address for the entered address (or better yet-- apply that address to
  the reply-to address, and use the noreply address as the "from" or
  "sender" fields to comply with proper envelope format and accepted
  relay rules) since in effect mahara is using the mailserver as a
  relay.

  If that can't be done, perhaps you could include a switch to turn off
  the contact form and replace it with a email address url for contact
  (mailto) so the person trying to contact the admin can use their own
  mail system (less ideal I guess).

  Lastly, until this is fixed, and possibly after, the troubleshooting
  docs shouldn't suggest using this form to troubleshoot email since the
  form itself is the problem!

1. Control buttons (edit, delete) for feedbacks should not be printed.
2. Links inside a block may be cropped (see attached file)
3. Links to embedded media artefacts don't show up
4. If there is no feedback, a message should be printed

  Dates on external blog posts are not shown

Bug description:
  Is it possible to show the dates when a blog post (for example) from
  an external blog was written? When I pull in an RSS feed, I get all
  the content, but not the posting date which makes it more difficult to
  see how old a post is.

  Mahara 1.3 (but I guess also 1.2)

  I cannot change the authentication method anymore on a user's admin
  settings page.

  Test scenario:

  1. User A is in institution 1 that has two auth methods: internal and LDAP. 
Uer A has LDAP as auth method.
  2. Going to his /admin/users/edit.php page, I try to change the auth method 
to "internal", but it doesn't work.
  3. User B is in "No institution" and I move him to institution 1.
  4. Going to his /admin/users/edit.php page, I try to change the auth method 
which is still on "No institution" to one for the actual institution, but no 
luck.

Note for testing:

1. Add an group and turn on "Auto-add users"
2. Add hundreds users via CSV (attached file)
3. Change the minute of activity_process_queue in the table 'cron' to '*'
4. Change the minute of interaction_forum_new_post in the table 
'interaction_cron' to '*'

The chunk size is set to '1000' (Activity::USERCHUNK_SIZE)

You may change it to smaller value to see if it works

  Context :
  You want to add files as attachment for different points of your resumé 
(certificate, letter of recommendation, etc.).

  What is expected :
  You fill in the form for an entry in your job history and at the botton you 
have a link or a button to add a document either from your personal file zone 
or from your computer if the document is not already in the formal.

  How it works in 1.8RC:

  A) At the bottom of the form you get the option to add a file with a
  "Browse" button. This button only lets you go and upload a file from
  your computer not from your personal file zone.

  B) The plus sign link (+) under the "Browse" button lets you add many
  "Browse" button without actually having uploaded a file with the
  previous "Browse" button.

  C) The plus sign link (+) disappears (but it is still clickable) when
  'mouseovered' once.

  D) When the form is then saved and accessed again for editing, the add
  file interface has changed and a button "Add file" is displayed
  instead of the *Browse" and plus (+) sign.

  Conclusion: the interface for adding and managing attachment to resumé
  is not consistent and may be confusing for certain users and then
  should be revised.

  Expected result: You should be able to create a skin
  Actual result: You see a "feature not available" exception

Bug description:
  To replicate:

  1. Set $cfg->skins = true; in your config.php to enable skins
  2. Disable skins for at least one institution, by using the institution 
configuration screen
  3. Log in as a site admin who belongs to that institution
  4. Navigate to "Configure site -> Skins".
  5. Click on "Create skin"

  Expected result: You should be able to create a skin
  Actual result: You see a "feature not available" exception

  is that it's dependent upon a series of triggers which were non-
  trivial to port to MySQL, and the organizations funding the
  development of the plugin were only using Postgres.

  However, it should be a relatively easy job for someone familiar with
  MySQL triggers to port it over.

  After upgrading to 1.8.0 I couldn't open the admin/upgrade.php page.
  The error displayed stated that mahara could not connect to the mysql
  db. Running on Ubuntu LTS Server.

  After some poking around I managed to get things running by altering
  the code in init.php.

  The new code read:

  // Transform $CFG->dbtype into the name of the ADODB driver we will use

  $CFG->dbtype = 'postgres7';
  }
  else if (is_mysql()) {
  // If they have mysqli, use it. Otherwise, fall back to the older 
"mysql" extension.

  }
  }

  I replace this with:

  I also receive the error:

  The mysqli PHP extension is not installed on your server. Thus, Mahara
  is falling back to the deprecated original mysql PHP extension. We
  recommend installing mysqli. Trouble is that fallback doesn't seem to
  be working at all.

  Fact is mysqli is  included with php5-mysql in ubuntu. Mahara doesn't
  seem to see that. Maybe the code that is suppose to detect that in
  init.php blocks connection to the server, stopping mahara from running
  at all.

  This does not happen in 1.7.x.

- Expected result: 'abc'
- Actual result: 'xyz'

When click Cancel, the context of the editor should be reset to 'abc'

  session messages to display in alternative places

Bug description:
  Wanting certain messages that get added to $_SESSION['messages'] to
  display in places other than the  place at
  top of page.

  To handle this I am thinking that a 'placement' variable needs to be
  added to message items. This way one could easily specify the place on
  the screen where the message is to appear.

  So that the code to add a message to an alternative place, for example
  under the login auth box, would be:

$SESSION->add_ok_msg($mymessage, false, 'loginbox');

  and in the login.tpl template have

{dynamic}{insert_messages placement='loginbox'}{/dynamic}

  
  for all the session messages with out placement specification - they would 
get displayed in the default place.

  1. Image Gallery slider displays 3 arrows (one duble arrow & one
  single arrow) on the left hand side of the gallery when the end of
  the gallery images are reached - clicking on the 3 arrows causes the
  gallery to move back one image .

  2. The gallery box also displays a scroll bar on the right for just a
  second as you click through the images

  Expected result would be to see one arrow which takes the gallery back
  one image or a double arrow that takes the gallery images back to the
  start.

For the #2 issue, I think the scroll bar will disappear and does affect
the image slide.

For the #1 issue, we can fix it by
1. The left double arrow (<<) will take back to the first image, this arrow 
only displays when users navigate away from the first image
2. The right double arrow (>>) will switch to the last image, this arrow only 
displays when users navigate away from the last image

  After selecting a Leap2A file from my local drive to import and clicking on 
the import button. I am getting an error message saying No file choosen another 
warning of "The total size of the new files in your uploaded Leap2A file would 
exceed your quota. You need to remove some of the files and try again."  I have 
then subsequently gone to the Plugin administration: artefact: file: file and 
set the default quota from 50 to 100 Megabytes I have also set the Maximum 
quota from 1 gigabytes to 2 
  and I still get the same error.

  I just tested the Mahara 1.8rc1, on a linux server with a MySQL DB. To
  view the site I am using a Mac OS Laptop with Chrome Version
  30.0.1599.69.

  When using the "create custom layout" feature I have multiple
  problems:

  - The preview only is displayed correctly for 1 - 3 rows, after adding the 
fourth row the preview doesn't update anymore
  - When adding a custom layout with up to 3 rows, the layout gets added to the 
other layout options. Adding a 4 row layout does work, but there is just a 
default thumb, not a picture of the layout.
  - Even though I can add up to 6 rows the adding of custom layouts with 5 or 6 
rows doesn't work at all.

  I attached a screenshot of the problems.

  Here's one we missed in Bug 1211758. You can manipulate the HTTP
  request data when selecting the Folder for an Image Gallery (aka
  "slideshow") block, to attach other users' folders.

  Because you lack permission to view the images, you wind up with a
  slideshow of "broken image" placeholders. But as was mentioned in
  1211758, you can still access the images by exploiting the lack of
  verification when you export.

  I tested the Folder block, and was not able to replicate this weakness
  there. So it appears to be limited to Image Gallery.

  Blocks lost when importing a leap2a from mahara.org

Bug description:
  When I export my account from mahara.org to a leap2a file, and then
  try to import it into a clean Mahara 1.7 installation, I find that it
  creates all the pages, but some of the Pages are missing their blocks,
  or their block content.

  The problem seems to be because it's processing the leap.xml file
  sequentially from top to bottom. The artefacts that cause problems are
  listed further down in the XML file than the View they are used in.
  When the View is processed, it can't find the artefacts, and so it
  drops their blocks.

  Leap2a import should be fully backwards-compatible, and it should
  definitely work with Leap2a files from mahara.org itself, given how
  prominent a site that is. The solution would seem to be to come up
  with some way to make it less dependent upon the order that the items
  are in the XML file. Perhaps more cacheing, so that it doesn't have to
  map in the leap2a-IDs to real ones until the very end? Or maybe just
  cache the ones that have an ID that it isn't able to resolve?

  I suspect this will not be a trivial issue to fix. The simplest thing
  we can do is to change our export format so that it puts artefacts
  first, but that won't solve for backwards compatibility. We should
  also take care that any solution is at least somewhat cross-platform
  compatible. So, for instance, parsing out all those that have a
   first, would probably be a bad idea because
  that's a Mahara extension to leap2a and won't solve this problem for
  leap2a's coming from other sources.

Bug description:
  Here's one we missed in Bug 1211758. You can manipulate the HTTP
  request data when selecting the Folder for an Image Gallery (aka
  "slideshow") block, to attach other users' folders.

  Because you lack permission to view the images, you wind up with a
  slideshow of "broken image" placeholders. But as was mentioned in
  1211758, you can still access the images by exploiting the lack of
  verification when you export.

  I tested the Folder block, and was not able to replicate this weakness
  there. So it appears to be limited to Image Gallery.

  with the raw html code for the link to the terms.php.  It doesn't
  actually render the link.

Bug description:
  When I tried to load a user by importing a LEAP2A zip file via "Add
  User" in the Admin section, I received an error message "this field is
  required", yet the LEAP2A option is selected and the zip file is
  loaded. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug here?

  The mahara version that I have is 1.2.3. The server environment is
  Linux red hat, PostgresPlus 8.4.1, Apache 2.2.14, and PHP 5.2.9.

  People sometimes ask on the forums what the system requirements are
  for past versions of Mahara. And currently, there's no easy way to
  answer that question, because we keep them on this page (

  ) and we just update that page periodically.

  It would make more sense to also put the system requirements into the
  README file, and update that at each major release. The system
  requirements shouldn't change in a minor release.

and send a request AGAIN.

  Expected results
   - The system should refuse user 'u01' to add user u02 AGAIN, then display a 
message about the reason.

  I keep getting false positives from this syntax check:

  if (/\b(from|join)\s[^({]/i) {
  bad_line("this sql table is not surrounded by curly braces {}, ".
   "or is not an anonymous inner select", $_);
  }

  That's because it kicks in if you have comments including the very
  common preposition "from", or less frequently the word "join". I'm
  going to change the text in the Makefile to clarify what's triggering
  the message.

  When you provide a display name and then don't want to use it anymore,
  you cannot get rid of it.

  To reproduce:

  1. Enter a display name into your profile and save the profile.
  2. The display name is shown in the login box in the right sidebar.
  3. Delete the display name from your profile and save.
  4. Expected behaviour: Your first and last name is shown again instead of the 
display name.
  Actual behaviour: Your display name is still shown.

  The PDF block looks incomplete on a Profile page, it looks as though
  it needs a bottom.  The other problem is that the block only shows
  half of the first page.  I would have expected it to show the whole
  first page.

  Folder name disappears after clicking on it in a page

Bug description:
  1.8.0rc2

  Folder names get lost when you click on them on a page to see them as
  artefact.

  For testing:

  Scenario 1:
  1. Create a folder in Content -> Files.
  2. Add some files to the folder.
  3. Create a page.
  4. Add the block "Folder" to the page and select the folder. 
  5. Do not change the block title so that the default title is used.
  6. Display the page and click on the block heading.
  7. You will not see the folder title displayed. When you go back to the page, 
your heading is suddenly gone. And when you go back to the Files area, your 
folder doesn't have a title anymore.

  Scenario 2:
  1. Create a folder in Content -> Files.
  2. Add some files to the folder.
  3. Create a page.
  4. Add the block "Folder" to the page and select the folder. 
  5. Change the block title to something else.
  6. Display the page and click on the block heading.
  7. The folder title is now the block heading and the folder itself changed 
its name to the block title. That should not happen. The block title is only a 
temporary renaming for the sake of the block, but should not change what you 
call the folder in your files area.
