The above is the reply we always see to this question, on mailman-developers
and on mailman-users, but it is impractical for some fraction of the list
administrators out there.

Either the email help command is out of date, or the list can be retrieved
from email *without* having to bother some curmudgeonly sysadmin (such as
myself).  The help command says:

who password
See everyone who is on this mailing list.  The roster is limited to
list administrators and moderators only; you must supply the list
admin or moderator password to retrieve the roster.

I just checked...the command works for me...for a smallish list (under 70
subscribers).
