[Mailman-Users] Question

2005-04-03 Thread Jason
I'm fairly new at using mailman I transferred some lists over to it I ran on
another system.

Sometimes when I invite people rather then the return address being
list-request it is list-bounces so when they goto confirm there subscription
it goes to the bouces account and nothing happens.

Is there a way to fix this. It doesn't happen all the time.

[Mailman-Users] List From Name

2005-04-03 Thread James Becker
I have setup mailing lists for my company to use for regular digests this is
all working fine however my bosses hate the long from name that the emails
come from, I'm talking about the on behalf of... part of the from name.

I understand that xxx-bounces[at]xxx.com is needed to route back to mailman
but how do I get rid of the on behalf of... as in this instance it's not
needed.

Cheers
James

That's an Exchange and/or Outlook behavior, not Mailman.

I don't think this is due to a difference in the invitations. Rather,
it is a difference in the user's MUA that is causing it to use the
Sender: rather than the From: address. There is more information on
this in the FAQ at
http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showfile=faq02.003.htp

It is primarily Microsoft MUAs (Outlook in particular) that do this. It
has to do with Microsoft's Purported Responsible Address (PRA)
initiative that's part of Sender ID. See
http://spf.pobox.com./senderid.html and links therefrom for more
information.

There is a suggested hack in the FAQ article, but it could affect
bounce processing in some cases.

[Mailman-Users] Backup

2005-04-03 Thread Jason
Last question I promise. If I was to just backup the entire mailman directory
including the subdirectories and ever need to restore the lists on another
system will I be able to just copy all the mailman files to the new system and
have all the lists be restored.
