[Mailman-Users] List Doesn't Appear on Admin Page nor Listinfo Page
I am testing Mailman on Ubuntu. I created the site list. Then I created a test list vm6mmtestlist1. I do not remember how I created it, but I think it was via the web. I had a problem with the Mailman configuration because I am using a virtual machine under Ubuntu, and I was confused as to the name I should use in the mm_cfg.py file - the name of the virtual machine or the name of the host machine. I corrected the config to point to the name of the virtual machine. I created a second test list vm6mmtestlist2. There was nothing in the aliases file for Postfix, so I corrected the problem and ran bin/genaliases That command generated the aliases for all three lists. When I go to the web, the admin page and the Lists Overview pages contain Mailman vm6mmtestlist2 The vm6mmtestlist1 list does not appear, and I do not know why. The list has Privacy options... Advertised Yes and I believe that there are no config differences between lists 1 and 2 except for Sender filters in list2. I assume that it was due to a misconfiguration when the list was created (that is why I created list2), but I cannot determine how to make the test list appear in these two web pages. I have looked at FAQ 4.62 and 4.17, but neither seems to have a resolution to my problem. -- Barry S. Re: [Mailman-Users] reviving broken mailman ???
Mark: Patrick has pretty much covered it. If you want another view, see http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2006-October/054114.html. This is in the context of moving lists, but the directories and files would be the same. However, I *think* you should be able to reinstall Mailman without moving your list data aside and get the same end result, but it would be good to back up your data anyway. Also, re: Patrick's concern that the issue may be caused by something in the list data rather than Mailman itself is quite valid in general, but is almost certainly not the case with your specific issue. Ok, I'll bide my time, I guess waiting for debian to come out and address this apparent bug, relating to mailman and smtp-failure and debuglevel reporting. I could wait a year, right, or it could be out today? In the meantime, I'll figure out how to back up my mailman installation per Patrick's instructions. Is there any service that I could upload my list to, and then have someone else send out to my list for me, for a price? Is that option available? Depending on what you mean by 'a price,' there are plenty of services that offer mailman alongside a bunch of other stuff, probably for less than $15/mo. I don't know that there are any dedicated mailman-only offerings. Personally, I have a VPS from vpsland.com (on which I run Debian, heh.), which I could run mailman on; it's $11/mo. -- - Patrick Bogen -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp
[Mailman-Users] Upgrade to mailman-2.1.9
Hi, I have finally decided to upgrade from 2.1.5 - 2.1.9, but I am being hesitant because in 2.1.5, there was a patch to integrate spam filtering into Mailman using SpamAssassin. The best option (and what you should be doing now) is filtering spam at the MTA level; either flat-out rejecting spam there, or tagging it in some way that you can later reject things at the Mailman level, if need be. -- - Patrick Bogen -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp

For one thing, you should be filtering using tools like SpamAssassin within your MTA and not within Mailman. Regardless of which version of Mailman you use, you should not be integrating an anti-spam tool like SpamAssassin directly into it. For another, versions of Mailman after 2.1.5 gave you the ability to filter on tags placed on the message earlier in the handling process (e.g., by SpamAssassin that is integrated into your MTA), and take hold/discard/reject/etc... decisions based on that information *before* the list looks at whether or not the sender is a member, etc This combination is extremely powerful. -- Brad Knowles, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Trend Micro has announced that they will cancel the stop.mail-abuse.org mail forwarding service as of 15 November 2006.
