[Mailman-Users] Extreme Slow delivery of messages
Hello I've recently purchased a dedicated server (P4 2.4, 1 GB RAM) with Cpanel/WHM .. I created a list with cpanel but noticed that exim is extremely slow in delivering the messages to the list although I changed the following settings in WHM: The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited) = 0 Number of minutes between mail server queue runs (default is 60) = 1 I checked with the server's providers, there are no constraints on the outgoing messages from the server. what could the problem be? Most of the time these are spam, so I want to forward them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Right now, the list's address is pre-filled-in there. It should be the listname-owner address, but in any case, it's hard coded in Mailman/Cgi/admindb.py and can't be changed by list configuration. I suppose I should post an RFE then: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/284965 In any case, it's probably not a good idea to forward directly to spamcop or other services from the admindb inderface because the forwarded message is wrapped as a message/rfc822 part in an outer message with Subject: Forward of moderated message and all other headers unrelated to the original message. Oh, but I have been doing this for some time and it works fine. Spamcop expects the spam to be wrapped as attachments. This a new problem for this list. It used to save the excel file in the archives with the correct .xls extension. but now it is getting a .bin extension. [Mailman-Users] Howto add footers
Hi I am running a mailman list server at our company and for legal reasons we need a footer or disclaimer to be automatically appended to any message going out from the server. I looked on the documentation and in the FAQs and did not see any method to add footers to messages. Is this possible and if so, can you point me in the direction where I might find the instructions to do this? Re: [Mailman-Users] (no subject)
Well, I actually just figured this out. I set Postfix back to work for just a single domain, reinstalled mailman and now it's working correctly. I'll just need to do the advanced config for the multiple domains. Scott -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott Race Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 1:50 AM To: mailman-users@python.org Subject: [Mailman-Users] (no subject) Hello, I'm inheriting a server that has mailman setup on it, but eventually will have mailman lists for multiple domain names. I'm having hard time figuring out what was previously done, but ultimately trying to get at least one mailman list working on one domain. However, it's currently somewhat configured for mutliple domains. At this point, I can create lists, join lists, but can't post to lists. I can send emails to the list and don't get bounces, but nothing ever gets posted. One thing I see is that the maillog shows email is getting rewritten before it can be delivered to the orig mailbox, see the relevant section of the maillog here: Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/smtpd[23936]: 70D3719F075E: client=mail.newarch.com[216.135.169.66] Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/cleanup[23940]: 70D3719F075E: message-id=[EMAIL PROTECTED] l mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/qmgr[23869]: 70D3719F075E: [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] , size=1721, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/local[23941]: 70D3719F075E: to=[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] , orig_to=[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] , relay=local, delay=0, status=sent (delivered to mailbox) Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/qmgr[23869]: 70D3719F075E: removed Oct 15 03:26:29 161446-db1 postfix/smtpd[23936]: disconnect from mail.newarch.com[216.135.169.66] I'm thinking the aliases is somehow not configured correctly, but just an idea. So, can join the list fine and receive emails from the mailman server, just can't post to the list... Any ideas? Question 1 - is the delay in SMTP from Mailman to exim or is the delay between exim and the remote MTA's? Look in mailman's smtp log for messages like Oct 17 09:47:08 2008 (30746) [EMAIL PROTECTED] smtp to gpc-website for 23 recips, completed in 0.396 seconds The above is a VERP'd delivery, so it represents 23 separate SMTP transactions in 0.396 seconds. If your delivery is an order of magnitude or more slower than this, see the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/doA9. If the delay is between exim and the remote MTA's, this is an exim question, not a Mailman one, but the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/qoA9 may help. -- Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED]The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, Californiabetter use your sense - B. Thus, the python function mimetypes.guess_all_extensions() does not know what extension to assign to it and we default it to .bin. The underlying problem is the MUA that generated the message is not assigning the proper registered mime type application/vnd.ms-excel to the attachment. There are a few things you can do about it. 1) Use an MUA the gives .xls attachments the proper mime type, or 2) set SCRUBBER_USE_ATTACHMENT_FILENAME_EXTENSION = True in mm_cfg.py so Scrubber will use the extension from the file name instead of one based on the mime type and restart Mailman, or 3) add the line application/msexcel xls to one of the following files /etc/mime.types, /etc/httpd/mime.types,# Mac OS X /etc/httpd/conf/mime.types, # Apache /etc/apache/mime.types, # Apache 1 /etc/apache2/mime.types, # Apache 2 /usr/local/etc/httpd/conf/mime.types, /usr/local/lib/netscape/mime.types, /usr/local/etc/httpd/conf/mime.types, # Apache 1.2 /usr/local/etc/mime.types,# Apache 1.3 and restart Mailman. -- Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED]The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, Californiabetter use your sense - B.
