[Mailman-Users] Mailman doesn't reset bounce

2010-01-31 Thread Hien HUYNH HUU
Dear all,
I wonder why mailman doesn't reset bounce when member received last message
? I check and see that Mailman just increases bounce but doesn't decrease it.
Please help me to correct this issue .
   Best regards,
   Huu Hien

This should not be a problem. Mailman doesn't reset bounce info
arbitrarily, but if the previous bounce date when a new bounce arrives
is older than bounce_info_stale_after days, the score is reset at that
point.

If you are seeing an actual problem other than an old score, what
specifically is it?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL .
You, all you , help me very much , I want to say thank you for all.
Now I detect my problem when using mailman and qmail . It's Personalize
setting , and I change to use batch mode sending (personalized=0).
It works perfect just having a small problem : It attached a text file (as
footer, but I don't use footer so It's emty) . Could I leave this attachment ,
don't send It to users?
   Best regards,

At the risk of being overly pedantic and redundant, Mailman doesn't
'inject' messages. It delivers them via SMTP, and the rate is pretty
much entirely determined by the MTA's response delays during SMTP.
I.e. making it faster is an MTA tuning/configuration issue, not a
Mailman issue.

Mailman's SMTPDirect.py writes ONE log message with the number of
recipients and time when it finishes it's delivery to the MTA of all
recipients. I don't know why you are unable to find this message in
Mailman's SMTP log, but it should be there.

QRUNNER_LOCK_LIFETIME = hours(20)
QRUNNER_PROCESS_LIFETIME = minutes(120)
QRUNNER_MAX_MESSAGES = 5

How can we know the statistics of mailman for injecting these mails to qmail?

Try looking at the whole log or grepping it for the message id of your

Because each SMTP connection is only sending to one recipient, that's
why. If you are using VERP or personalized messages, the messages
really are different as far as the MTA is concerned, and thus each one
must be sent separately.

For personalized messages, this is true at the Mailman stage, and
you'll have to choose: multiple recipients per transaction, or
personalization. You can't have both.

For VERP, it may be possible to configure Mailman *without* VERP, and
have the MTA do VERP itself. However, I don't know if you'll be able
to take advantage of Mailman's VERP features (such as for bounce
processing) in that case. You may need to have a separate system take
care of those features at the MTA level.

Mailman's smtp log contains entries like:

Nov 11 18:16:07 2009 (2392) message-id smtp to listname for 181
recips, completed in 5.353 seconds

It seems that that is exactly the information you're looking for. You
can look at the raw log or use the mmdsr script referred to by Stephen
and Brad to summarize it.

If you need more detail that that, you'll have to analyze your MTA's
logs.

If there is a post on Nov 12, Mailman hasn't yet finished it's delivery
to the MTA. The log entry is written after the message has been sent
to everyone.

If you want to know where it is in the delivery process for a single
message that is taking a long time, you will have to look at the MTA
logs or perhaps enable debug output from smtplib - see the FAQ at
http://wiki.list.org/x/-IA9.

You can either look at mailman's logs, at the MTA's logs, or watch the
connection with something like wireshark/ethereal.

should be possible to adapt that sender confirmation.

This sender confirmation by email feature is available in L-Soft's
LISTSERV, and it is an essential way to avoid fake email.

In a post a few years ago Barry said that this feature was going to be
in vers. 2.2, but that version never materialized. Will it be in vers.
 3?

Sort of. What I was talking about was using mail-back confirmation as an
option for allowing postings from email addresses that Mailman has never seen
before (i.e. non-validated). The confirmation message would be a sort of
on-demand validation that would optionally be enough to allow that email
address to post to the list. It still doesn't solve any of the authentication
problems with those email addresses.

Mailman is too far downstream to do this very effectively. It is
possible to set up Mailman so that all posts will be moderated except
those containing an Approved: PASSWORD header. This header is then
stripped from the distributed version. However, such passwords can be
leaked in various ways or sniffed from the mail in the transport
between the sender and Mailman. It's not terribly secure.

A better way to do this would be to set up the MTA on Mailman's host
to only deliver to the list address (ie, Mailman) if the sender has
been authenticated (eg, with TLS).

You really don't need to do that. Have you read the Performance section of
the FAQ? Some -very- large lists manage to do without this 'feature'. After
that, it's an MTA and bandwidth issue, not a mailman issue.

Could Mailman be configured with multi mail server (at least 2 mail

I assume you are talking about outgoing mail. This is not a
'configuration' option. It would require significant modification to
Mailman/Handlers/SMTPDirect.py to implement load sharing using
multiple outgoing MTAs.

[Mailman-Users] Increase Mailman Performance

2009-10-21 Thread Hien HUYNH HUU
Dear all,
How to increase Mailman Performance ? Now I'm using mailman with qmail .
I see that I takes about 50 mins to send all 10.000 messages . I think this is
a slow speed because I've heard that qmail can handle 10 million emails per day.
In my qmail, I installed big_concurrency patch and I set remote
concurrency to 400. The spawn of qmail is 100 instead of 23.
Please guide me how to increase to speed of mailman, I wish It can send
10.000 messages within 10 mins :) . Can It do that ?
  Best regards,
  Huu Hien

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Performance

2009-10-02 Thread Hien HUYNH HUU
Hi all,
Now I use mailman with qmail . Everyday I send a message to the maillist ,
but the server takes 40 minutes to send about 10.000 emails (3-4msg/s) I think
It's slow performance, isn't it ? because I hear that qmail can send about 10
millions messages per day. That means It can send about hundred emails per
second .
Please guide me how to increase the performance although my email has
big-concurrency patch and I set concurrencyremote to 400 .
Thank you very much for all helps.
   Best regards,
   Huu Hien

Re: [Mailman-Users] Mail to yahoo / google accounts

2009-09-04 Thread Hien HUYNH HUU
Dear Stephen, Mark !
 Thank you for your reply.
I don't know why the gmail/yahoo mail server indicate my server is spam
although my customers want to receive my post from the list.
I check my qmail settings and see that my DNS, rDNS are Ok.
 I am configuring concurrencyremote is 5 with qmail and : SMTP_MAX_RCPTS =
10, SMTP_MAX_SESSIONS_PER_CONNECTION = 1, QRUNNER_SLEEP_TIME = seconds(10) with
Mailman so that we just use bad performance to be called spam.
 Please help me .
 Best regards,
 Huu Hien

Have you read the FAQ?

Both of those indicate you are suspected of spamming. The Yahoo
message says their users are actually complaining about your mail.
(The big freemail hosts have been know to lie about exactly why
they're blocking your mail, but if you really are causing user
complaint you're in big trouble at that host. It's very difficult to
get back in their good graces after a history of user complaint.)

You should go read their guidelines, and find out how to conform to
them.

I must wait for about 2 hours to resend and It block again.
Please help me to config mailman/qmail so that I can send mail
to them without being deny anything.

This is probably more a qmail problem than a Mailman problem.

You really should talk to qmail people about qmail. There may be a
few on this list, but most people here use sendmail, Postfix, or Exim,
and the most active experts on this list know nothing about qmail that
isn't in the FAQ.
