[Mailman-Users] Mailman Not Sending Admins Notification of Held Messages
I have a group of mailman mailing lists (2.1.14-1) running in a cPanel environment (11.30.5 - build 3) where suddenly I am no longer seeing notifications of held messages being sent to the admins. I am also not seeing the daily notifications of held messages that normally were sent out in the mornings. This happens with messages sent to moderated lists by subscribers and non-subscribers, and also with messages sent to non-moderated lists by non-subscribers. There is just no notification to admins. On the other hand, messages sent to non-moderated lists by subscribers are sent out to the entire list without a problem. In addition, individuals who send to a moderated list receive an email that their message has been held pending admin approval. So, just the two pieces are not working. I realize that since the cPanel build is unique you are not able to support it, but am just looking for some help about where to begin looking. Thanks, J.R. J.R. [Mailman-Users] Unexplained unsubscribes of yahoo.com email addresses
I run a few Mailman mailing lists (2.1.12cp3 - 42 lists with 500 subscribers max on each list) for a professional association that I belong to. Over the last three days I have had a series of unexplained unsubscribes from one of the lists, and almost all of the unsubscribed email addresses are yahoo.com addresses. None of the admins has done a mass removal, so is there any way for me to determine why these email addresses were unsubscribed? Anything in the log files? This is the only list that I am seeing this on. Thanks, J.R. J.R. Re: [Mailman-Users] Unexplained unsubscribes of yahoo.com emailaddresses
Thanks Mark. As I looked back through the Bounce log I can see the history for what you describe below; multiple bounce notifications, account disabled after ~2 weeks, then account unsubscribed after another two weeks. Is there another log that would show the response(s) from yahoo.com, either a deferral or rejection? On Mar 1, 2010, at 12:08 PM, Mark Sapiro wrote: J.R. Constance wrote: I was surprised at these unsubscribes because it has been almost 4 weeks since any messages have gone out to this list, and I had removed any queued mail from the queue server several weeks ago. The bouncing member's delivery is disabled by bounce processing and if requested a notice of the disable with the triggering bounce attached is sent to the list owner. From that point forward, the process is totally controlled by cron/disabled. Posts or the lack thereof are irrelevant. If the member's delivery is not re-enabled manually by the member or a list admin, the member will be unsubscribed after bounce_you_are_disabled_warnings times bounce_you_are_disabled_warnings_interval days (default 21). Thus, when a member is unsubscribed by bounce processing this normally occurs weeks after the member's delivery was disabled. -- Mark Sapiro m...@msapiro.netThe highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, Californiabetter use your sense - B. [Mailman-Users] No Admin Notification
I am having a problem with one of my lists where the administrators are not being notified of posts awaiting approval. This list is set right now to Emergency moderation so all posts are being held, but neither I nor the other administrator are receiving notifications of held messages. I should mention that I have about thirty lists all running off this same mailman installation/domain and none of the other lists are having this problem, so it is something unique to this list. I also need to mention that this is a cPanel Mailman installation, but since all of the other lists are working I am assuming that it has nothing to do with cPanel. J.R. Re: [Mailman-Users] Bug in Mailman error on ListInfo Page
Thanks Mark, that fixed the problem. The pending.pck file had a date of Sep 2007 with a file size of zero. And yes, I did change that list address. Always feel kind of queasy about giving out that much info for one of my lists to a public mailing list. By the way, visiting the listinfo pages was not the problem. Only subscribing from them. J.R. The lists function normally (as in, emails sent to the list address are sent to the subscribers) but nobody can subscribe through the listinfo page. The error below is from an attempted subscribe (i.e. clicking the subscribe button) from the listinfo page for the list whose name you apparently replaced with 'listname' in a few places below. The problem is the subscribe request can't be added to the pending database because the usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/lists/listname_ascls-lists.org/ pending.pck file is corrupt. You can just remove that file, although you will lose the confirmation data for other requests, but it's probably lost anyway. Is this the problem you're having? I note that I can go to the overview at http://ascls-lists.org/mailman/listinfo/ and to the listinfo for the two public lists on that page without problem. [Mailman-Users] Emails sent directly to bounce address
I have one list that has suddenly been receiving an increase in bounces, and in looking at the bounce emails they appear to be spam sent directly to the bounce address (ex. list1- [EMAIL PROTECTED]). From what I can see this email (with attachments, sometimes virus/trojans) then gets sent as a bounce to the admins. The admin for this list is receiving all of these emails, with attachments, and is getting concerned about the volume of infected attachments she's getting. Is there any way to filter these emails sent to the bounce address so that if they are spam they just get discarded. I do have filters set up for emails sent to the list that filter them out, but since these don't actually go to the list, but to the bounce address, they don't appear to be run through that filter system. Any recommendations on what to do about this, short of creating a new list, would be appreciated. [Mailman-Users] Umbrella-bounces address?
I've been working on setting up and umbrella list that sends to four sub-lists. I have this working well if someone submits an email to the umbrella list and they are subscribed to the sub-lists. However, I have a question about the proper configuration handling a post from someone who is not a member of a sublist . In Mailman FAQ 3.69 there is a section that states: The second issue is when a member of one sub-list posts to the umbrella, her post is held by the sublists of which she is not a member. There are two ways to deal with this. if the mm_cfg.py option USE_ENVELOPE_SENDER is Yes or True, you can add the umbrella's - bounces address to accept_these_nonmembers of sublists. In any case, you can add the umbrella's -bounces address as a member with delivery disabled and password reminders off to the sublists. I know that this is a stupid question, but what is the umbrella- bounces address for any given list? If my list is [EMAIL PROTECTED], what would the -bounces address be? [Mailman-Users] We're sorry, we hit a bug!
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out a problem that I've been having for some time now. For some of my lists when I try to log in and approve/discard posts using the admin function I get the following error. This is obviously a cpanel version of mailman. Could that be causing a problem? The [EMAIL PROTECTED] address is my main email address, and seems to work fine. I do receive email from the ascls-lists.org mailing lists on a regular basis to that address. I will look through the FAQ entries, and will also recheck the DNS configuration. Thanks, J.R. [Mailman-Users] Some of my Mailman mailing lists don't work but some do.
I recently transfered hosting from one service to another. I have hosted accounts that use mailman mailing lists. On one account (domain) all of the mailing lists seem to be functional. On the other at least one of the lists is not working. I can log in to the admin section and from that side everything looks normal. I can send invitations or subscribe members, and it tells me Invitation sent successfully or Subscription successful but no invitation or welcome emails are received. I have successfully created a new list on this account and it works fine. Any ideas what might be the problem, and what I can do to fix, short of recreating the mailing list(s) that are not working? Re: [Mailman-Users] Moderated group.
I checked this and the member_moderation_action is set to Hold. All new subscribers are automatically set to be moderated. When I send a test message to the list absolutely nothing happens. Nothing shows up in the moderator's queue to be approved, no notifications go out that a post is awaiting approval. Nothing. The really odd thing is that when I first set this list up it was working fine. Subscribers would post to the list, a notification would be sent to the admin that there was a post to be approved, etc. At some point a month or so ago, it just quit working. I have checked and rechecked the settings, but can't find anything. J.R. At 8:51 -0800 3/28/05, Mark Sapiro wrote: J.R. Yes, I have several other lists on this server that are working, but they are not moderated lists. Emails sent to those lists automatically are sent out to all subscribers. This is the only moderated list where emails sent to the list have to be reviewed and approved before going out to the list members. Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:J.R. Re: [Mailman-Users] Moderated group.
Mark, Hmmm. I'm using an installation of Mailman on hosted space at Jumpdomain.com. I did check the admin interface and there are no pending requests for moderators, and nothing in the archives. To be honest, I'm not sure I have access to those other files to review. My access through jumpdomain is restricted to files I can see via their control panel. FTP access gets me into the public_html directory, and I don't have telnet access. Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: J.R.
