Re: [Mailman-Users] Setting option flag for all users?
Mark Sapiro wrote: You misunderstand the list settings. The users SuppressPasswordReminder flag enables the user to supress her/his own reminders when send_reminders is Yes. When send_reminders is No, no reminders are set regardless of the user's individual SuppressPasswordReminder flag. The user's setting does not override the list setting in this direction. Then why are they even given the option??? So if I set my list to send password reminders and each user has selected to not receive them, what happens? Does the list setting override the user setting as it does if the list setting is set to 'no'? If yes, then the user setting has no purpose, right? This sure could be better documented and implemented. [Mailman-Users] Setting option flag for all users?
I just got mailman 2.1.5 up and running on Debian and only pulled out about half of my hair in the process. I had set send_reminders (to send the monthly password reminders) in my list admin to NO and then imported our 1000 or so users. I have everything up and running perfectly and am now shocked to see that all of the imported users have the Get password reminder email for this list? flag set to YES, which means they will get the password reminder anyway, right? So, is there a way for me to change this setting for all users to NO and then give them the option to enable it if they choose to. Totally disabling the password reminders isn't an option - I just don't want the user to get them unless they change the setting to YES. I really don't want to change the options manually in the Web interface for 1000 usrs. I've narrowed this down to the send_reminders flag in the user options, but I'm not sure how to change this flag to 0 for all the users. Perhaps a withlist command? Jim Tittsler wrote: I think you want to set SuppressPasswordReminders for each member. And yes, you could do it with withlist. That worked perfectly and took all of 1 minute to do. THANK YOU! I would, however, make the recommendation that when send_reminders is set 0 for a list that imported users should also have the SuppressPasswordReminders flag set to 1 rather than 0. As an admin, if I don't want reminders sent to my users, then why would every imported user have their settings set to receive them, thus overriding my list setting?
