[Mailman-Users] Upgrade Mailman 2.1.13 to 2.1.16

2013-11-01 Thread Martin Hugo
Hi All,

We are running Mailman 2.1.13 (on Ubuntu) and have been for some time.
Recently the SPAM bots have been hitting our subscription addresses so hard the
bounces have tripped the filters at Microsoft and blocked a couple of lists
addresses until I get them to unblock them. It looks like an upgrade to 2.1.16
might go some way to mitigate this.

Unfortunately, Mailman has been running so well for so long, I have forgotten
most of what I did to install it in the first place :(

Can anyone point me at a good tutorial on how to upgrade from 2.1.13 to 2.1.16?

Thanks very much.

Marty

Re: [Mailman-Users] Response: 450 Host down

2010-12-29 Thread Martin Hugo
Hi Joni,

Sounds like your incoming mail server for your Mailman System is either not
reachable or not responding to your outgoing server when you send the message.
You don't mention if they are separate systems or domains so I can't make any
other suggestions at this time. I would try opening a command prompt on your
sending system and trying to manually contact the SMTP server on your Mailman
System by telnetting to your Mailman SMTP server on port 25 and sending a
message that way. This may give you more information.

I have set up Mailman and Postfix, following the instructions to the letter,
and although Mailman will send out email fine, when I, as the administrator,
try to send my email to the list I have created, I get the following error:
Response: 450 Host down (myserver.mydomain.org). I am quite new to this and am
not a Mailman or Postfix expert by any means, but if someone could point me in
the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

[Mailman-Users] Customizing Mailman's Web Pages

2005-09-02 Thread Martin Hugo
Hello,

I am trying to customize Mailman's pages to match our website. One of the
things I am trying to do is limit the width of the tables and pages (easy
enough on the HTML pages). I have found how to edit htmlformat.py and
htmlformatter.py to adjust table and horizontal rule widths and change the
alignment of the footer logos to center, but I am having trouble figuring
out how to center the text links that appear between the horizontal rule
and the mailman logos.

Can anyone help please?

[Mailman-Users] Index page for mailman

2005-09-01 Thread Martin Hugo
Hello,

As a new user to Linux and Mailman (using ver 2.1.5 w Apache 1.3.3 and
Debian Sarge w Exim4) I was pleased to be able to get it up and running
without too much list searching and head scratching.

I have a couple of questions though: I would like to have a redirect page
send people to mydomain.com/mailman/listinfo if they inadvertently arrive
at mydomain.com/mailman/ but I can't figure out where to put that page on
the server (right now you get a forbidden error). Second question: If I
want to change the look and feel to match my site, can I edit the html
files in /var/lib/mailman/templates/en so that all list pages look the
same (mainly school logos and table widths), or will that break
something elsewhere.

TIA

RE: [Mailman-Users] From field displayed by MS Outlook

2004-01-22 Thread Martin Hugo
We use Outlook 2002 and all the messages I receive (from this and our
own lists) have the from field correctly reported as the sender. Either
something has been changed in Outlook 2003 or there is a machine
configuration problem either on the recipients machine or the senders.

Hi,

I think like so many others I am effected by the from: address being
incorrectly reported in Outlook. I am guessing since nothing has been
posted to the list this is still a current problem. I can report that
the latest version of Outlook 2003 reports:
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED] On behalf of
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I don't really want to ditch mailman but I don't have any alternative as
this is unacceptable to our customers. Any feedback on how others are
dealing with this much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jon

RE: [Mailman-Users] Intro/Question About Attachements

2004-01-22 Thread Martin Hugo
Hi Croc:

I think I am right in saying that the attachment you see is what happens
when someone sends an RTF or HTML formatted email to the list and the
list is set to send text emails; it attaches the signature file to the
email.

I could be wrong, I'm no expert, but experiment with changing the mail
format of both the sender and the list and see what happens (and let me
know when you find out g).

Subject: [Mailman-Users] Intro/Question About Attachements

Hello,

First, my name, or I should say nick name is Croc. I am new to the
list. I run a couple of Mailman driven mailing lists. I am baffled by
some of the features/options. I joined this list because I am hoping to
have some things simplified for me. And who knows :), maybe I will be
of help to others.

Todays guestion is about attachments. It seems when subscribers send
email to the list they have an attachment. It shows up as something
like ATT00019.txt(280 B) Inside the attachment is the list name, the
email address to write to and the address of the info page for the list.

I look forward to learning more about how the program works and getting
to know some of you.

Thanks,

Croc

[Mailman-Users] Customizing Listinfo page

2003-12-12 Thread Martin Hugo
Hello:

I am new to Linux and mailman (using Debian distro, Apache 2.0.48, Exim
and Mailman 2.0.11).

I managed to get everything installed and configured with the help of
this list and a friend g but I have two questions.

1. What do I need to edit to customize the main listinfo page (I have
been able to find and edit the individual list info pages but the main
one eludes me)?
2. When I click on the Archive link for a list I get page not found; is
this because it is a brand-new list and there is no archive or do I have
to create a page (permissions and aliases for archives seem OK)?

TIA
