Re: [Mailman-Users] Don't reply to held messages
Thank you very much! Some time ago I even had known that option, but I missed it when I searched for it recently (I didn't expected it to be in General options but rather in one of the sub-categories of Privacy Options). And btw: Thanks for this great piece of software to all developers ;) --Norbert -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
[Mailman-Users] Don't reply to held messages
Hi, I'm the list administrator of a list which frequently receives spam messages which then are hold because of an implicit destination. As it isn't considered as clever to reply to spam mails (because it's a confirmation of the validity of your address to the spammer), is there the possibility to disable the automatic reply to a held message (/Your message to [List] awaits moderator approval/)? I didn't find information on the web (but maybe I just used the wrong keywords :) And yes, I know what I'm doing. Legitimate users will not experience held messages without information where the post is gone (because anyone may send mail to the list, only /require_explicit_destination/ holds posts -- and only spammers use implicit destinations) --Norbert -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
[Mailman-Users] Migrating a list to a (Postfix) virtual host
Hey, I currently encounter the following problem: We have several mailing lists in our project, but we'll buy a new domain. The lists are currently running under our old domain. The new domain will point to the same server and will be registered as virtual_alias_domain in Postfix. Is it possible to move the lists which aren't virtual hosted yet (they appear only in data/aliases) to the virtual host (so they appear additionally in data/virtual-mailman)? I searched the web but I didn't find anything helpful about this topic. The problem is that I don't want to re-create the list because it'd be good to keep the passwords and settings of the subscribers. --Norbert -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
Re: [Mailman-Users] Migrating a list to a (Postfix) virtual host
Yeah, sounds quite simple :) Small question: genaliases looks at the URL in the list configuration and generates the aliases from it? Thanks :) -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
Re: [Mailman-Users] Migrating a list to a (Postfix) virtual host
Another possibility (sufficient for at least my situation) came just to my mind: Adapt the list's /host_name/ and set up an alias respectively an entry in Postfix' virtuals table pointing to the list's address on the new virtual host. It's not really elegant, but it works so far. --Norbert -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
[Mailman-Users] DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST
Hi all, I wanted to figure out which effect DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST has but I didn't have much success. The only place where I found this variable was add_virtualhost() in mailman-install.pdf and in Defaults.py. My question: Does DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST have an effect on the mailman instance when I am not using (e.g. Postfix) virtual hosts? Does it have an effect _when_ I'm using virtual domains? And if yes, which? Or should it always be set to a sensible value? Does it influence to which hostname the aliases file belongs? And if yes, does that make sense? I ask because when I change the value of DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST, nothing happens except of some address changes on the web interface. Sending mails to the lists works without any problems. I'm pretty confused :) Norbert -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org

[Mailman-Users] Mailman and Postfix-style Virtual Domains (not a problem, only a question!)
Hey list, I'm maintaining a server with Postfix and Mailman including Postfix-style virtual domains. This works fine so far. But is it normal that the creation of a list for a virtual subdomain ($prefix/bin/newlist -e subdomain listname) not only creates entries in $prefix/data/virtual-mailman, but also in the aliases file for the main domain ($prefix/data/aliases)? I didn't find anything on the web, there are only issues related to non-found hash DBs or missing virtual domains etc. But in mailman-install.pdf which I used for the installation, there's the following sentence: Mailman’s support of virtual domains is limited in that list names must be globally unique within a single Mailman instance, i.e., two lists may not have the same name even if they are in different domains. Is that related? Or am I doing something wrong? --Norbert P.S.: I'm rather new to Mailman, but I think that I've understood it basically. -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
