[Mailman-Users] Copying rejection reason and email to multiple moderators?

2011-03-04 Thread Paul Key

Mailman 2.1.11
Linux

Hi everybody

I have a list with more than one moderator. When one moderator rejects
a post to the moderated list I would like a copy of the rejected email
and the reason for rejection sent to the other moderators. I have
looked at the "Additionally, forward this message to:" option on the
"Posting Held for Approval" but this only forwards the rejected email
and not the reason for rejection. Is there a way of forwarding both the
email and the reason for rejection to the other moderators?

Thanks

Paul

[Mailman-Users] Archives not showing complete email message

2007-12-11 Thread Paul Key
Hi

I am also getting the following where the body of an email should be in
the list archives:

Skipped content of type multipart/alternative-- next part
--
A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
Name: not available
Type: image/jpeg
Size: 4631 bytes
Desc: not available
Url :
http:///mailman/private/sgul-students/attachments/20071210/bb270a69/attachment.jpg

The URL actually works and links to a small corporate JPEG conatined in
the email.

I have seen the thread "Mailman and UTF8" in the mailman-users archive
but couldn't fathom an answer and not sure about applying the patch.

Is there anyway of getting list messages such as this to appear readable
in the list archives?

Thanks

paul

[Mailman-Users] Digest question

2007-12-10 Thread Paul Key
MM 2.1.3
Solaris 9

I have only one list on mailman that wants to use the digest facility to
send out digests twice a day, at 8.15am and 1.15pm, monday to friday.

I know senddigest is entered in cron but should other lists want digest
ability they may want different times dates. Do I need multiple cron
entries for senddigest? Is senddigest configurable? Can I pass in
command line parameters telling senddigest which lists to send digests for?

Thanks

[Mailman-Users] Subscribing by email?

2007-08-15 Thread Paul Key
Mailman 2.1.3
Solaris 9

Hi

I am looking to get users to subscribe and unsubscribe from certain
lists using email. I am getting them to emal
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with "subscribe" in the message body. This
works fine with an empty subject field (they get one confirmation email
as expected) but if they put a subject on the subscription request email
they receive two subscription confirmation emails from mailman in reply.
Anyone no why this happens? They would like to put something in the
subject.

Also does mailman 2.1.3 support the sending of a blank email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ? (or some similar address) instead of
the subscribe email via request?

Thanks

[Mailman-Users] Can email notification of approval be done?

2007-02-28 Thread Paul Key
Hi

When a user posts to a moderated list and the list admin rejects their
post they get an email to tell them their post has been rejected.

What I want to do is when a poster to a moderated list is approved -
they are sent an email by mailman telling them about the approval AND it
would be nice if a third party could be cc'd this email at the same time.

Can approval notification by email be done by mailman (in the same way
it is done automatically for rejections)?

Thanks

[Mailman-Users] Improving SMTP performance?

2005-06-28 Thread Paul Key
Mailman 2.1.3
Solaris 9
Exim 4.43

I have a list with 2300 subscribers and have set SMTP_MAX_RECEIPTS = 0
to submit all the entire recipient list in one transaction to Exim.

Looking in the Mailman SMTP log file I see the following line:

smtp for 2300 recips, completed in 1921.891 seconds.

This seems a long time to me ? Is it? Does anyone know how I can speed
this up?

Thanks

Paul

[Mailman-Users] How to get mailman to ignore the reply-to address?

2005-06-22 Thread Paul Key
Mailman 2.1.3
Sun Sparc Solaris 9

I have a one-way announcements list with subscribers having their
moderation bit set.

The reply-to address of the sent email is changed to the email address
of the person who has asked for the email to be sent out.

Now if this person who the reply-to address is changed to happens to be
a subscriber to the list then I, the sender (added to "List of
non-member addresses whose postings should be automatically accepted.")
get an email from mailman telling me that "Sorry - you are cannot post
to this list." Yet if the reply-to address is changed to be a
non-subscriber unconnected with the list my email gets posted without a
problem - why is the reply-to address behaving in this way and why can't
I change it to what I want?

Can I get mailman to simply ignore the reply-to address like listproc?

Thanks

Paul

[Mailman-Users] Disappearing email

2005-06-21 Thread Paul Key
Mailman 2.1.3
Sun Sparc Solaris 9

I have a one-way announcements list with about 2300 subscribers and a
post to this list has completely disappeared.

The reply-to address of the sent email is changed to the email address
of the person who has asked for the email to be sent out and this causes
the mail to need approval even though the account used to send the email
has been added to "List of non-member addresses whose postings should be
automatically accepted.". This is intermittent too - sometimes the
email will go through without approval with a changed reply-to address -
sometimes not.

However this email asked for approval - here are the entries from vette:

Jun 21 10:27:13 2005 (2762) Sgul-students post from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
held, message-id=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Post to moderated list
Jun 21 10:29:09 2005 (2902) held message approved, message-id:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Jun 21 10:55:22 2005 (3013) Sgul-students post from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
held, message-id=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Post to moderated list
Jun 21 10:57:04 2005 (3077) sgul-students: Discarded posting:
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Extension of Awards Deadline
Reason: No reason given

The first time it was sent it was approved but nobody received it and it
didn't show in the POST log so it was sent again. Again it was approved
but then discarded - why? The email appears in the list archive but
using exim and eximon it was never sent out (doesn't show on the queue)
but has disappeared without trace.

Does anyone know how I can find out what has happened to it? or how to
get the mail sent?

Thanks

Paul

[Mailman-Users] Changing reply-to address to non-subscriber on an annoouncement list?

2005-05-20 Thread Paul Key
Sun Solaris9
Sparc
Using Mailman version: 2.1.3

Hope you can help!

I have an announcement list for a group of students.

Lecturers post to the list via one dedicated 'sender' account which is
not subscribed to the list but is allowed to post in 'sender privacy
options'.

When I send out mails to the list on behalf of the lecturer using the
'sender' account I want to change the reply-to address to the lecturer's
email address so students can contact them directly and not reply to the
'sender' account which isn't checked very often.

However the message gets rejected because they cannot post to the list.

I could change the reply-to in Listproc and still send. Can I do this
in mailman?

Thanks

Paul

[Mailman-Users] slow delivery times

Hi

I am having a problem of delayed or slow delivery of emails of a list

Any other ideas as to why the mailman is sending out emails slowly over
a long period of time and how delivery can be speeded up?

Thanks

[Mailman-Users] Recipient filter and mbox problem

2004-10-13 Thread Paul Key
<>I have changed the recipient filter to ‘no ‘- “Must posts have list
named in destination (to, cc) field (or be among the acceptable alias
names, specified below)? “ for a list called testlist but funnily enough
I had to do this under the ‘mailman’ list to get it to work not testlist
– any ideas why?

Now messages get through directly to the recipient with out having to be
moderated. However they don’t go into the testlist.mbox file (archive).
This only happens if the emails have the mailman server’s explicit
address – which I don’t want. Where do the emails go in terms of the
archive? And how can I set recipient filter to no AND get the emails in
the lists mbox file?

thanks
