[Mailman-Users] How to update the templates - listinfo.html?

2013-12-09 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi,

I'd like to customize the listinfo.html file in /var/mailman/templates/en
directory
I changed listinfo.html and restarted the Mailman. However, the listinfo.html
webpage didn't get updated when I viewed the page in a browser.
Did I miss something?

Mailman 2.1.15 and RHEL 6.2.

Thanks in advance.

Mary Wang

Re: [Mailman-Users] Allow anyone to post to a mailing list

2010-07-08 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Thanks for the info. I did what you recommended.
Action to take for postings from non-members for which no explicit action is
defined.
(Details for generic_nonmember_action) - I Set to 'Accept'
and
should messages from non-members, which are automatically discarded, be
forwarded to the list moderator?
(Edit forward_auto_discards) - I set to 'No'

But still received this error:

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

Message has implicit destination

Am I missing something here?

Thanks
Mary

The first thing you need to do is set the default non-member action to accept.
(see Privacty Settings/Sender Filters)

If you truly want to let everything through, you will also want to set the
maximum message size (in General options) to 0 (i.e. unlimited), and not
require the list name to be in the To or Cc field of the message (see
privacty/recipient filters). you may also want to set the max number of
recipients to something high.

These are the sorts of things I did when I set up an a mailing list to act like
an Email address for general enquiries.

This is being caused by the item I mentioned in recipient filters which tells
Mailman to reject messages that don't include the list address in the To or Cc
field. The option is called require_explicit_destination and should be set to
No.

[Mailman-Users] Outlook Rich Text Format - Table and Embedded Links - Lost Format

2010-06-16 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi,
One of my mailing list admins mentioned that when he sent out a Outlook email
message with a table format that has embedded links. The table format
disappeared and the embedded links don't show up as clickable. Some of mailing
list admins like to send out postings with MS specific format and rather than
plain text.
Any suggestions on how they would be able to retain the MS Outlook format?

Please advise.

[Mailman-Users] Trouble Subscribing - You must supply a valid email address Error

2010-06-10 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi,

I recently migrated Mailman to another server. One user reported that he went
to subscription page to subscribe a mail list, he entered a valid email address
, picked a password and hit the Subscribe button, the page returned 'You must
supply a valid email address'. I tried to subscribe the list myself and got
the same error. I took a look at the error log, and it said Jun 10 06:21:14
2010 (30782) No such list _images:.

Do you have any ideas why I got that error? Maybe I missed something during the
migration?

I'm running on Mailman 2.1.9.

Please advise.

That error is not related to this issue.

This issue is most likely caused by a web server configuration that is doing
some kind of redirect which loses the POST data from the form.

See the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/ioA9 which may be related.

Re: [Mailman-Users] What is the best way to move Mailman 2.1.9 toanther server?

Mark -
Thanks the info. This is really helpful.
One more question, I wanted to make sure all current list admins' list
configurations to be moved over to the new server as well.
What is the file name that contains that kind of information? I saw the notes
on coping lists and archives directories, but I didn't see the information
about moving the list admin's list configurations. Is that information stored
in a database file?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and installing Mailman 2.1.13 on the new server (see
the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/pYA9 for some Python caveats) and then just
copying Mailman's lists/ and archives/private/ directories and running
check_perms. archives/public will take care of itself as lists are accessed.
See the lists posts linked from the first part of the FAQ at
http://wiki.list.org/x/2oA9 for more.

[Mailman-Users] Mailman CGI Error-Group mismatch error

2010-05-24 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi,
I received the following error this morning. So I rerun configure again with
the following command: ./configure --with-cgi-id=apache --prefix=/var/mailman.
I'm still getting the same error. Is there any place that I can look for so
that I can debug this problem better? Perhaps, looking at the config history
file or something. Any other places that I can check the cause of this error?

Mailman CGI error!!!

The Mailman CGI wrapper encountered a fatal error. This entry is being stored
in your syslog:
Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the CGI
wrapper script to be executed as group nobody, but
the system's web server executed the CGI script as
group apache. Try tweaking the web server to run the
script as group nobody, or re-run configure,
providing the command line option `--with-cgi-gid=apache'.

Thanks
Mary

[Mailman-Users] The unsubscribe users are STILL receiving the mailing list password reminders messages

2005-03-03 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi,

I'm using mailman-2.0.6-1 on a Redhat 7.2 box. Recently, few ex-mailing
list subscribers complained about that they have already unsubscribe
those mailing lists, but yet they still received the monthly password
reminder email message.

I know I'm using an older version of mailman, and I don't have time to
install the later version. How do I remove those users from the monthly
password reminder email message broadcast. Also why does the
unsubscribe logic IS NOT affecting the password reminder logic in
Mailman?

Thanks in advance

[Mailman-Users] From UseNet Is Not Working

2002-10-28 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Hi Everyone,
I am running on mailman-2.0.6-1.
I want to set up the Mail-News and News-Mail gateway for my list.
I used my admin GUI and specify the following:
The internet address of the machine your News server is running on :
news.boeing.com
The name of the Usenet group to gateway to and/or from : boeing.test
Should new posts to the mailing list to be sent to the newsgroup :
selected Yes
Should new posts to the newsgroup be sent to the mailing list?
selected Yes
Should Mailman perform a catchup on the newsgroup? selected No.
This is what I got:
When I sent an email to my mailing list, I saw the mail posted on the
Usenet.
But when I use the Usenet reply the message, I don't see the mail sent to my
mailing test. Any new posts to the newsgroup ARE NOT sent to my mailing
list.

I don't have any clue at this point why it is only working one way.
I was looking at the /var/mailman/logs/fromusenet file and this is what I
got:

Thanks for the inputs.

I went to the Mailman and tried to select 'yes' on - Should Mailman
perform
a catchup on the newsgroup?, but Mailman automatically puts it back to
'no'.
Does anyone also have this problem? Is there I can overwrite this in
Mailman code?

This is what it is supposed to do. Once you do a catchup there is no
reason to do another one.

How do you find message numbers on the Usenet server? I didn't see message
numbers listed in the Usenet server?

Some clients will show you the message number on the message; the
command-line program trn will, for example.

You may want to work with your news server system administrator on this.

RE: [Mailman-Users] From UseNet Is Not Working

2002-10-28 Thread Wang, Mary Y
Thanks for the inputs.

I went to the Mailman and tried to select 'yes' on - Should Mailman perform
a catchup on the newsgroup?, but Mailman automatically puts it back to 'no'.
Does anyone also have this problem? Is there I can overwrite this in
Mailman code?

How do you find message numbers on the Usenet server? I didn't see message
numbers listed in the Usenet server?

Any inputs is appreciated.

But when I use the Usenet reply the message, I don't see the mail sent to
my
mailing test. Any new posts to the newsgroup ARE NOT sent to my mailing
list.

Oct 28 10:40:03 2002 (30103) nothing new for list brasssgi-testlist
Oct 28 10:40:03 2002 (30103) brasssgi-testlist watermark: 1550

What are the message numbers on the Usenet server? This looks to me like the
watermark (the last message number that mailman went and got) is higher
than the current message numbers. Is it possible that the message numbers
got reset somewhow?

You might try telling it to play catchup. This may reset the watermark to
the current highest, allowing subsequent messages to get picked up by
mailman.

[Mailman-Users] Mail List Encryption

2002-09-24 Thread Wang, Mary Y

Hi,
I do I setup Mailman so that all emails being sent out are encrypted?
Or do I need to specify this in the Sendmail?

Any clue? Thanks for any inputs.

Heaven knows I tried to make them break. My MUA in this case is Netscape
Messenger 4.78. At least it demonstrates that it
isn't Mailman messing them up! (Not to mention that Netscape is immune to
Klez.H.)

 quote who=G. Armour Van Horn
What happens when you send a really long link through the system? In
this case, I suspect that the line is broken before Mailman ever sees it
  - it would be broken if you sent it to a standard mail client just the
same. But what you are sending is a text URL, not a link. The link the
reipient sees (that isn't working) is created by the recipient mail
client based on starting with http: and ending with whitespace.

Here is your original URL, I've put it back on one line:

http://labtest.ca.boeing.com/~psim/NewRtPlatform/test_plate_form_notes.07_18
_02.html

Now, here it is again as a link:

http://labtest.ca.boeing.com/~psim/NewRtPlatform/test_plate_form_notes.07_18
_02.html

Unfortunately, that's behind a firewall and nobody outside The Kite
Factory will know if it worked again. Here is one that should be long
enough to break anything, based on all the URL encoding I used. First as
  text:

http://www.domainvanhorn.com/dropbox/copy%2520of%2520van%2527s%2520self%2520
portrait%2520in%2520the%2520bathroom.jpg

  And now as a link:

http://www.domainvanhorn.com/dropbox/copy%2520of%2520van%2527s%2520self%2520
portrait%2520in%2520the%2520bathroom.jpg

I won't know until this goes through the system, but I suspect that all
four will be broken onto two lines, but that the linked versions will
still work. Maybe we'll all learn somethign at that point.

It's a universal problem. As the number of documents on a server grows,
I think we're going to have to abandon the idea of having humans read
URLs for taxonomy - it leads to URLs that break in too many places.

  Van

[Mailman-Users] A long URL - 2 lines - second line is not clickable.

2002-08-19 Thread Wang, Mary Y

Hi,
I am using Mailman 2.0.6-1 and Sendmail-8.11.6-3. My users are complaining
about the line wrap problem when send mailing mail to the mail list with a
long URL. It seems line wraps text lines that are longer than 80 characters
with no white-space. If you include a long URL in a email message it
usually gets split onto separate lines and the typical email reader within
BCA (exchange) marks the first part of the link as clickable when usually it
isn't. People have to paste the whole link back together manually in a web
browser input dialog to get it to work.

First, I thought it maybe a Sendmail problem. So I tried send a mail via
Sendmail with a long URL and it appears to be fine. The long URL did split
into two lines, and the second line is still highlighted as a href link, so
there was no problem. By clicking the link, the browser would bring up the
correct information.

However, sending an email to the mail list is a different problem.

For example,
http://labtest.ca.boeing.com/~psim/NewRtPlatform/test_plate_form_notes.07_18
_02.html will show up with 2 lines and the second line would be ml and
wouldn't be highlighted as part of the URL that is clickable.

Any clue?

Thanks for any help. We had this problem for about a year. I finally got a
chance to look into it now.

RE: [Mailman-Users] Add Security Features in PHP

2002-08-15 Thread Wang, Mary Y

Hi Wash,

I am sorry that I didn't make it clear. I have a web collaboration tool
that is using the Mailman for the mailing list service. Every user is
required to log in in order to use the collaboration tool. The security
checking that I was talking about is to check user's person status against
Boeing's internal database. All this security/log in checking is written in
php. What I am saying is that I don't want any users access Mailman pages
unless he/she is logged in. I don't know really know how to program in
Python yet.

Is there anyway that I can interface Mailman with PHP code?

Thanks in advance.

Mary

Hi Mary,

What do you feel is lacking (so far) in terms of the security that mailman
provides? Not that I am negating your question. I am still so new to mailman
but I am also satisfied with the level of security that it gives so far, in
terms of access to list admin, members list, archives. Well maybe for me I'm
not anal about security but those seem enough to me.
Maybe you should join the dev team and introduce new features ;-)

[Mailman-Users] How to modify information to /templates/listinfo.html

2002-07-08 Thread Wang, Mary Y

I am using mailman 2.0.8. I would like to customize
/templates/listinfo.html.
The part where it shows the link of the archive:
p To see the collection of prior postings to the list,
visit the MM-ArchiveMM-List-Names
Archives/MM-Archive.
...
The MM-List-Names would have the value of the list name and it assumes it is
pointing at index.html. I would like to have MM-List-Names have the value
of the listname/main.php. So the browser would be looking at main.php not
defaulted to index.html. How do I do that? How do I add a new tag like
MM-List-File-Extension, so I can just have the following,
p To see the collection of prior postings to the list,
visit the MM-ArchiveMM-List-NamesMM-List-File-Extension
Archives/MM-Archive.
and the link will be pointing to the main.php instead of index.html.

Thanks in advance.

[Mailman-Users] No root privilege on the mail server

2001-06-19 Thread Wang, Mary Y

Hi All,
I have the Mailman software loaded on my machine. We have a mail server on
a remote machine, but
I don't have the root privilege on it. After reading the Mailman
documentation, I need to add list aliases to the /etc/aliases file. If I
don't have the root access, can I still set up the Mailman software
successfully? I have the full root privilege on my own machine. Do I need
install a mail
server program on my machine so that I can run Mailman successfully ? Is
there something like a virtual mail server?

Thanks in advance.
