[Mailman-Users] Moderator list pending

2017-07-09 Thread Ralph Johnson
HI

Nobody has come up with an answer to my query about how to stop the daily
messages " Moderator request waiting your attention" when there is no
message in the pending moderator list. I have already deleted it.

One thing that occurs to me is to generate a message myself and hope that
clearing it will also clear the phantom message. But how do I do this.

Ralph

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

I am the administrator for a walking group and I received an email message
that there was a moderator request waiting for my attention.

I went to "Tend to moderator requests" and deleted the message.

I am still getting daily emails telling me that there is a message waiting
my attention, but there isn't. The offending message was deleted and no
longer appears in the Pending moderator requests list.

How do I stop the daily emails.

Checking via the web interface for the list, us...@hotmail.example.com

Every 15 minutes -- according to the bounce log and the messages to the
list owners and moderators -- it thinks it's trying.

Has anyone seen this before?

[Mailman-Users] Adding a description to the listname-bounces address

2009-04-28 Thread Ralph Prichard

This seems like such a simple thing that I'm sure it's described
somewhere, but after searching the archives and Google I haven't had any
success in finding it.

We have some Outlook users, and as this FAQ describes...

http://wiki.list.org/display/DOC/From+field+displayed+by+Microsoft+Outlook

...they see the Sender info glued to the From info.

Please note: we're perfectly happy with the listname-bounces address
itself (I mention that because my searches turned up several people
asking if it was possible to change.)

All I'd like to know is if it's possible to add a descriptive string to
that address. In other words, configure the Sender line to be something
like...

Sender: The Interesting Example List example-boun...@example.com

...instead of what it apparently is now...

Sender: example-boun...@example.com

Even just being able to insert the description value from the General
Options page would help.

Thanks,

Ralph

[Mailman-Users] appearance of member list (2.1.9)

2008-11-17 Thread Ralph Stahl
Hi,

normally (?) the member list shows all members from A to Z at one page.
I have seen a list, where a kind of tabs is above it with links
A...Z, and only the members with one of these letters are listet at
one page. It seems to be not very useful to me, I'd like to change it to
the normal appearance.

Is it possible? I am not the admin of the server, therefore I can only
use the admin frontend.

Thanks for hints,
Ralph

This may have improved more recently, but sometimes I've had
to run check_perms -f more than once.

Ran it a couple of times myself ;-)

My problem is partially solved - changed ID for data/aliases* to mail
mail. It seems that the web interface is working (at least locally, on
the mail server). I will try to access it from a windows client inside
my LAN, but if that doesn't work, no sweat.
Thanks, guys!

Ralph

/usr/lib/mailman/mail/mailman post mailman. Command output: Group
mismatch error. Mailman expected the mail wrapper script to be
executed as
group mail, but the system's mail server executed the mail script
as
group mailman. Try tweaking the mail server to run the script as
group
mail, or re-run configure, providing the command line option

Postfix) to run the script as group mail?

If you installed Mailman from source, it's usually much easier to
follow the other suggested fix: rerun configure the
--with-mail- gid=mailman option. If you installed from a package
that might be more difficult. Please tell us what version of Mailman
you're using and how it was installed.

 Dan

Installed package via X (Gnome). Version 2.1.9. Since I'm not a regular
Un*x administrator (fix some simple mail problem once a month) I tend to
like GUI over CMD ;-)

Todd, my /usr/lib/mailman/subdir-files all have mail as GUID. Isn't that
suppose to mean mail client (Postfix)?
Silly question, is the mail wrapper the /usr/lib/mailman/mail/mailman
file?
Aliases is root mail and aliases.db is mail mail

Isn't group mailman used at all?

[Mailman-Users] Consolidated Admin of Multiple MM lists?

2006-09-04 Thread Ralph Oser
Happy Labor Day -

Is it possible to tweak the individual settings on our 60+ MM lists at one
time? Our site runs cPanel to provide us admin access to all our website
functions, including access to individual MM lists via each lists admin panel.
It sure would be nice not to have to log into each list and make the changes
one..by...one.

Any suggestions?

[Mailman-Users] Mailman sends no mail

2005-03-06 Thread Ralph Philipp Führer

After setting a net footnote for a mailing list, mailman doesn't send mails
anymore. i checked the systemlog, mailman post is executed as usual and quits
without any error. crons are running as usual, too. if i send a mail to one of
the mailinglists, mailman would eat it but wouldn't do something else.

maybe anyone has an idea what happened or where to look at to solve the
problem?!?

thanks.

[Mailman-Users] Cannot connect to web administration

2005-01-16 Thread Ralph Utbult
Hi,

Last autum, I set up a MandrakeLinux with Postfix. Later I added Mailman,
mainly for its integration with Mandrake. Last week the server crashed, so I
had to set up a new one. It worked great! Three hours after I started the
installation, Postfix was up and running! Mailman took another hour or so...

My problem: I run my mail sefver behind a firewall, with port 25 open. Problem
is, I can't access Mailman web pages.
This is what I try to access http://hyndan.gbg.abf.se/mailman/admin/mailman If
I change to IP numbers, I can get connected. Sounds to me like some sort of
DNS-problem? I'm accessing from a computer in the LAN, so the firewall
shouldn't be the problem. I'v added the mail server to my DNS server (Windows
2000 Advanced server), but that didn't help.

[Mailman-Users] Problems with diacritical characters

2004-11-17 Thread Ralph Utbult
Im trying to add an info-text in the footer. Since I live in Sweden, I use our
diacritical (or umlaut) characters (åÅäÄöÖ). Python signals that I use
non-ASCII characters \xf6 (yes, I know tihs...). So, do I use HTML-like
umlaut-codes or do I internationalize Python?

Hi all,

I'm new to this list. My name is Ralph Utbult and I work'n'live in Sweden. My

My question:

Hi Richard and Tokio,

i tried executing admin from the shell as nobody and it did work.
(there was some html-ouput)

So there must be a problem with the apache configuration.

Here are my changes to httpd.conf:

VirtualHost x.x.x.x:80
ServerName xxx.xxx
SuexecUserGroup nobody nobody
DocumentRoot /usr/local/mailman/
ScriptAlias /mailman/ /usr/local/mailman/cgi-bin/
Alias /pipermail/ /usr/local/mailman/archives/public/
CustomLog /var/log/httpd/mailmanhttpd_access.log %h %l %u %t \%r\ %s %b
\%{Referer}i\ \%{User-agent}i\
ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/mailmanhttpd_error.log

Are there any other settings which are important? i can't find
anything in the installation instructions..

Thanks again..

Re[2]: [Mailman-Users] Problems installing Mailman on RedHat and Apache - Premature End of script headers

2004-08-20 Thread ralph

Hi Richard!

There's no log in $prefix/logs/error.. does that mean apache doesn't
even start the cgi?

My versions:

RedHat 9
Apache 2.0.48
Python 2.3.4
Mailman 2.1.5

I installed following the INSTALL-Instructions..
(compiling etc. i arrived at httpd.conf and did the changes..)

I just upgraded to Python 2.3.4 and recompiled mailman but the
error still occurs.

Anything logged in the Mailman error log ($prefix/logs/error)?
What OS? What version of MM? How installed?

[Mailman-Users] Case sensitivity for email addresses

2004-05-05 Thread Ralph Siemsen
I'm using mailman 2.1 and have managed to get one of my lists into a
somewhat odd state.

A user [EMAIL PROTECTED] was originally added through the
mass-subscription web interface.

Later, I added [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note capitalization) with the add_member
script on the commandline.

Or perhaps it was the opposite way around. In any case, I now have the
user subscribed twice, with the same email address, but different
capitalization of the domain portion.

Now the problem is trying to remove either or both of these entries.
Regardless of whether I use the web interface or commandline, I am
unable to remove the member without breaking the list completetly.
All attempts seem to remove one of the members, and then I hit a
consistency check that complains about the other entry being not a
member. All attempts to post to the list, etc., fail with the same
error (only visible on commandline; web interface just says that an
error happened).

Is it possible to manually dump the database of list members, remove the
offending email addresses, and then undump the database?

Or some other way to fix the list?

Thanks in advance,
-Ralph Siemsen
(Please cc: replies as I am not subscribed to this list!)

[Mailman-Users] New lists do not work

2002-11-15 Thread Ralph Boersema
Dear folks,

We haven't made any progress on this one, so let me send it out again to
see if someone recognizes something:

I have no expertise at all in computer programming or the mailman
program. Our installation set up by a good programmer who is not too
familiar with mailman. He doesn't have the time to participate in this
list. So I'll present our problem in the language of one who doesn't
understand the technical language and I'll forward any suggestions to
our programmer.

Here's the situation:

1. Our mailman program was working fine for several months.
2. When some configuration changes were made to our server, sendmail
stopped woring as did the mailman forwarding capabilities. The cause was
located and corrected and all seemed to be fine. All our lists started
to work again and continue to work well. But
3. New lists that are created do not work.
4. It is initially possible to administer the list, but when the first
message is sent, it does not forward and, after that, it is no longer
possible to access the administration page. The admin access page comes
up, you type in the password, but, then, nothing happens.
5. Also, it is not possible to delete these lists and try to create them
again with the same name.

Any suggestions?

Ralph

Is this possible in 2.0.x ?

Is this possible in 2.1?

It is possible with multiple installations of MM, but I think the
original sender (and me) wants to know how this could be done
with one installation. Is there a cook book for this problem?

[Mailman-Users] Initial configuration

2002-03-01 Thread Ralph Boersema

Dear Folks,

We have just installed mailman and are as yet unfamiliar with it. We
have run into a problem with the configuration. I can't get email
aliases to work. We tried it out by creating a test group. The problem
is that when a user registers for the group, an email is sent to a
certain email address created by Mailman. This address forwards (or is
supposed to) to the administrator of the group. The problem is that the
email address aliases that should point to him are not being created
properly, and the email is returned to the sender each time.

Does anyone have a suggestion where to look for our problem?

[Mailman-Users] unsubscribing without the use of passwords?

2002-02-02 Thread Ralph Haine

Dear Reader(s),

Currently im trying to help one on our customers solving a problem dealing
with people wanting to unsubscribe from a certain mailing list. The customer
is using mailman for the first time and asked me wether its possible for
people on the list, to unsubscribe without having to use their password.(the
password that they get sent in the monthly reminder)

I've been looking through the FAQ, and the only answer i found is that it
doesnt seem possible what this customer wants.
I didnt find a box to tick/untick which has an option to make it an
unsubscription possible without a password.

On the old mailinglist system this customer was using it was possible.

I would be very pleased if you could answer this question for me. I
personally expect that its not possible what this customer wants.

Kind regards,

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Wish List - Bounces

2001-12-27 Thread Ralph Milnes

Allow a number of days option before admin bounces are automatically
deleted from the pending administrative requests area.

List administrators get at least daily notices of admin requests, so they
can see when they really need to tend to one. Most requests are spam
submissions from non-members that are only discarded. It would be nice if
the system just deleted those requests if they stayed unattended to over a
certain period of time. For example, I'd pick 2 weeks -- to give me enough
time to come back from vacation to deal with any accumulated requests. But
otherwise, I'd just appreciate it if the system just deleted the requests
after 14 days and saved me the trouble of tending to all the requests.

That's what separates the system engineers from the skr1pt k1d33s. ;-)

I don't like needing 30 books just to make a program work, but most of the
time that isn't required. However anytime you start talking about

[Mailman-Users] web interface not working...

2001-10-12 Thread Ralph Forsythe

Ok, quick system info: Server is a Cobalt Raq3i running Linux
(glibc). Python is version 2.0.1. Other info, the mailman
home directory is '/usr/local/mailman'. Scriptalias and other
apache config was done per the docs.
When I view the page for the list (creatively titled in this case) at the
following URL, I get the message below it:

http://xyz.xyz.com/mailman/admin/pissoff
(domain changed since this is an open list)
Bug in Mailman version 2.0.6
We're sorry, we hit a bug!
Please inform the webmaster for this site of this problem. Printing of
traceback and other system information has been explicitly inhibited, but
the webmaster can find this information in the Mailman error logs.

Now, the mailman logs don't show anything. However the httpd error
log shows the following output (below), which makes me think there is
some kind of permission thing going on. I compiled with the proper
mail-gid and cgi-gid bits as far as I know... Does anyone have an
idea as to what might be causing this? (I searched in vain in the
archives, but may have missed something...) And I did RTFM, didn't
see anything like this in there. Thanks!
