Actually my suggestion would be to remove Pipermail (and not insert MHonarc,
Hypermail, etc.) MM doesn't include a search engine, why a mail archive?
IMHO MM should focus on what it already does very very well.

Pipermail isn't horrible any more, and I don't think it would be
/that/ much work to implement a simple search engine. Simplicity is
the key here -- I'd love a basically functional search feature that
works out of the box. It needs to be modular so that more advanced
sites can swap in a different search engine (e.g. htdig), just like
they now can do with the archiver.

I don't think we buy much by /removing/ functionality.

2003-01-25 Thread Jon Carnes
I'm pretty sure this is in the FAQ,
 - edit the archive mbox file
~mailman/archive/private/listname.mbox/listname.mbox
remove the messages you want gone from the archives
 - delete the current html archives in
~mailman/archive/private/listname/..
 - run the ~mailman/bin/arch command and regenerate the archives for your
list.

Have fun - Jon Carnes

Yep, but as I recall someone made a patch that preserved the URL references
(at least in 2.0). Not that that is worry for the case below since they
just started up the list.

BTW: I get around this by running HTDig on my servers so that folks can
search the archives directly. It helps. A lot.
