First check to see what options you have from within cPanel, apparently
some cPanel implementations come with a migration or transfer tool which
is already set up to transfer sites from PLESK to cPanel. I haven't gone
this direction, but I have transferred from cPanel to PLESK or from older
versions of PLESK to newer versions of PLESK with the PLESK Migrate
tool...

If you don't have that option, you may want to check out

which appears to have information on a free transfer service...

The process of moving Mailman 2.1 archives and lists from one server to
another is usually simple (see ), but
both cPanel and Plesk have their own modified Mailman instances which
are non-standard and differ from each other which might greatly
complicate this. See and

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Migration

2018-10-06 Thread James Kelleway
Hi All,

We have a client who uses mailman on a plesk server. They are in the
process of moving to a cpanel server but we have no experience with mailman
and were wondering if anyone experienced devs could give us a quote to
perform the migration for us? Please feel free to reach out with any
questions.

Thanks,

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Migration 2.1.X to 3.2

2018-07-24 Thread Ryan McClung
Hey All,

Looking to migrate 2.1.15 to 3.2. Right now we have a lot of lists and
pretty big archives. Is there a best practices for the migration or can
anyone offer scripts that have worked for them?

Info:

1 -- Mailman 2 server
1 -- Mailman 3 server

Both are on the same network.

Mailman 2.1.5's Mailman/MailList.py had code to test and set if
necessary a list's data_version attribute every time the list was
instantiated.

I think you must be looking in the wrong directory. If there is no
lists/LISTNAME/config.pck (ignoring for the moment the possibility of a
Mailman 2.0.x config.db), the list doesn't exist for Mailman 2.1.x

Do you have any mods in your 2.1.5?

If you think your config.pck's are otherwise OK, you could always do

#!/bin/sh
file=`mktemp`
echo mlist.data_version = 0 $file
for list in `/path/to/mailman/bin/list_lists --bare`; do
  /path/to/mailman/bin/config_list -i $file $list
done
rm $file

It doesn't matter what you set data_version to as long as it's less than 98.

[Mailman-Users] mailman migration

2009-07-15 Thread Marek Kozlowski

:-)
I've inherited a Fedora 8 server with a very long (~10 years) history of
updates, upgrades, small changes etc. I've decided to install a new
Linux server (Gentoo), configure it and (selectively) migrate only
necessary data.
There is a mailman instance installed on the old server and there are
several (less than 10) mailing lists. I'd like to emerge (install) a
fresh port of mailman on the new server and copy those lists. Can I
ask for any help:

- which files should I examine?
- is copying of those files enough?
- ..?
Best regards,
Marek

Some posts referenced in the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/2oA9 may
help.

You need to move Mailman's lists/ and archives/private/ directories
from the old installation to the new. If domain names are changing,
you will also need to run fix_url (run bin/fix_url.py for help), and
you will probably want to rebuild the archives (see bin/cleanarch
--help and bin/arch --help)

Sorry, I missed the most important part:
- both servers use postfix as MTA,
- the old server used uw-imap (mbox files for e-mail) while the new one
uses courier-imap (.maildir directories),
- I don't use mysql for mail nor web.

If delivery to Mailman is via aliases, you will need to run
bin/genaliases after moving the lists. The imap server is not involved
in any case. Either Postfix uses Mailman aliases to pipe mail directly
to Mailman or all Mailman mail for all lists is delivered to a single
maildir and processed by Mailman's Mailman/Queue/MaildirRunner.py
module which see for more information.

This is very wrong. There should be one archives/private/list.mbox
directory for each list and that directory should contain one
list.mbox file which is a mailbox contianing all posts archived for
the list. I.e., in the case of the 'mailman' list, an
archives/private/mailman.mbox directory containing an
archives/private/mailman.mbox/mailman.mbox file.

What does 'ls -lR /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/mailman.mbox' show
on the old and new servers? What about other lists?

get an output that is a mile long. The results from that command is
huge. Every other list has one .mbox file with 775 permissions except

5). Its basically in all sense the same machine / arch / domain / blah
blah blah.

I am using this archive as a guide:

http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2007-January/055208.html

I copies everything over from my old server to the new as below:

/usr/bin/rsync -ave ssh --delete-after /var/lib/mailman/lists/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mailman/lists
/usr/bin/rsync -ave ssh --delete-after
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mailman/archives/private

I skipped step 3 in the guide since the domain is identical and has no
reason to change...

I then copied all /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/*mbox/*mbox to the new
server as shown below:

/usr/bin/rsync -ave ssh --delete-after
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mailman/archives/private

Now I am trying to understand step # 5 and I don't understand since my
system has no user or group called list so I can chown -R list:list.
Am I missing something? Right now since I can't execute step 5, when I
attempt to start mailman on my Linux server, I get the following
error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] cwilliams]# /etc/init.d/mailman start

It seems you did this twice?

Since your domain names don't change, you shouldn't need to do step 6.

For step 5, make sure that everything in lists/ and archives/ is your
mailman group.

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Migration

2008-04-28 Thread Carlos Williams
Hello all!

I have built a new email server on my LAN and would like to move over
my Mailman content including archives over to my new email server and
was wondering if this is a common procedure / task? I am moving from a
RHEL4 to a RHEL5 server so not much is really too different in regards
to location and files. Is there a guide or write up the Mailman
community recommend I follow to perform this task?

I am currently running mailman-2.1.5.1-34.rhel4.6 on my production
server and my new server I plan to migrate to is running
mailman-2.1.9-2.

Thanks for any assistance and tips!

Carlos

You definitely want the lists/ and archives/ directories and their
contents. This is the main thing. I suspect all that's in
/var/spool/mailman/ is the queue directories and that these will be in
/usr/local/lib/mailman/qfiles/ in the OpenBSD installation, and if the
system is quiescent when you migrate, they will be empty anyway. You
may also want the heldmsg-*, site.pw and creator.pw files from the
data/ directory.

[Mailman-Users] Mailman migration/reinstall?

2004-03-04 Thread Anne Shroeder
We've just had a crash and burn of our server and are migrating everything
to a new machine. Mailman was previously installed by a consultant and Im
unable to reach him. Any resources/tips for help/consultants out there to
help with either migrating from our current machine or reinstalling?
Obviously it's pretty urgent :/ Please respond to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and not this email address.

[Mailman-Users] mailman migration

2003-10-31 Thread Fabrice Barbarin
Hi,

I was currently using mailman 2.0.13.
This system was deployed into /home/mailman directory.
I redeploy a new server in mandrake 9.2 I use the package mailman-2.1.2.
The current install is in /var/lib/mailman.

How can I import my previous mailing list configuration and archive from
mailman 2.0.13 to my new mailman version?
I created symbolic links for /list and /archive to my previous version. But I
didn't see previous mailinglists. Is there anything else that I should do?

Regards

Fabrice
