[Mailman-Users] HELP

2008-06-20 Thread John Lieber
I recently moved to a new server. I did a new install, setup everything
and it's all working great. I went to import my 'old' member list via
the web interface, only I forgot to select the radio button to NOT
notify the members of their subscription. How do I kill the mail that
is trying to be sent out? Right now I shutdown postfix/mailman and even
the network adapter.

I really don't want to deal with the 'hundreds' of emails from the
members asking if they have been subscribed to 'another' list...

Any help would be appreciated.

John

[Mailman-Users] Help

2009-02-04 Thread Jeff Bernier
I was moving a list from one server to another, and following creating
directories and moving files, I attempted to run the following command:

withlist -l -r fix_url LISTNAME

Now I cannot get to my main Mailman page. I see the Bug in Mailman version
2.1.9 message.

I can however get to each individual list manager url and login.

When I type list_lists at the command line, I get the following in return:

[Mailman-Users] Help!

2009-02-15 Thread Steve Weiss
I started using Mailman 2.1.11 via Lunar Pages. I created a list last
month, and almost a month later to the day, my members are being
automatically unsubscribed en mass. Is there a setting to be changed so I
don't have to re-enter the list members again?

Attached is a copy of the email I received.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

[Mailman-Users] HELP!!!

2009-07-08 Thread Atma R

Dear sir/miss,

When using your software I keep having the same problem and I really cannot
figure out how to solve it!

How do I sent a emailmessage to all the people in my mailing list that I have
put in it manually.

I have tried many things but nothing works. What is the problem?

I have a mailing list called t...@slimmer-denken.nl and I have a emailaccount
called slimm...@slimmer-denken.nl

So when i send a emailmessage using slimm...@slimmer-denken.nl to
t...@slimmer-denken.nl it suppose to send a email

to all my subscribers right? But it doesn't.

I have also tried serveral other things, but nothing works!

So how do I fix this? How does this work? I have looked on your website and
read the FAQ but still nothing works.

So please help me out with this.

with kind regards,

Atma Ramsaran

I've done something stupid, and I don't know how to get out of it. I'm a

[Mailman-Users] Help?

2010-02-06 Thread Scott Steinhart

Hello...

I was wondering if you would be so kind as to help me, I've been trying
for 2 weeks straight to get Mailman working on my system. The only thing
I've accomplished is headaches. I know the system works, as I have seen
it in use. But no matter how I try, I am unable to get it to work.

I'm running CentOS 5.2, Postfix, and Apache 2, and the current version
of Python. I've followed the installation instructions. On some
instances, I've gotten Mailman to go so far as to send me confirmation
emails when i create mail lists and subscribe. But I am unable to post.
Postfix shows relay errors constantly.

My biggest issue is no matter what I do, I can't seem to get Mailman to
create the "virtual-mailman" file. I've tried installing using the
tarball file and I've tried using Yum. I want to use Mailman for my
son's boy scout troop. I was told it's easy to set up. While I am no
expert in using Linux, I do well enough, so I figured this would be a
pretty clean install. Sadly, I've just had no luck.

Please please please-- any help you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

Best Regards,
Scott Steinhart

[Mailman-Users] HELP

2010-03-27 Thread Sandy Cheves
Dear Friends,

I am a new user of Mailman and would like to print a list of our
subscribers. I am told it is not possible and that I can only manually make
a list by going to each letter of the alphabet and write down the
information on each entry. Surely there is a way to print a complete list
of subscribers. How is that done?

Thanks a bunch.

I would like to know how to get started ... I searched
FAQ and tried to get a grasp at list.org but here I am
... I don't get the Python thing ... I understand it
is a programming language but certainly I don't have
to learn Python to install Mailman, right? And then
when I go to download SNU Mailman version 2.1.6 there
are three downloads: Mailman 2.1.6 (show only this
release) Download mailman 2.1.6.tgz and Download
mailman 2.1.6.tgz.asc !! So, what should I download
... and then what do I do?
You're help will be greatly appreciated and as you
see, I need a good deal of getting started help ... I
am able to follow directions but I don't see anything
that really spells it out clearly for me.

Do I upload this to my cgi bin ... am I hopeless :)

have a : on them.

List administrators, you can visit the list admin overview page

And also the create list page does not have the : on them as well.
Another question is how do you set the global create list password?

mailman but keep the same interphase. Can mailman automatically go out to a
text file and "sync" itself with it. We would use rysnc but the problem is
mailman's listing of users are encrypted. please help

Hey. I have just started to use your mailing list program, but i am new to
website making etc.

I have set up a mailing list, but i do not understand certain things.
Is there a way of allowing people to subscribe to it on my website without
having to visit those pages?

Also, if the email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I want to send a
newsletter, do I send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and then it will
be distributed to everyone on the list?

Is there a way allowing only me to send emails to people on the list?
Hope you can help..i'm sure they are basic questions..just i am a bit
confused..hehe

What I saw was the Mailing Lists is Disabled under the Overview tab but
actually the Mailing Lists is Enabled which is under the Settings tab.
Here is the another problem, when i create a new mailing lists and add
new email subscribers into mailing lists , the mailing lists didn't
work. So what my boss did was he terminal mode to use Unix command to
add a new subscriber into the mailing lists.

[Mailman-Users] Help

2005-05-02 Thread April Cox
Hi there! I was hoping to get some help from another user who may have
run into this problem. I can't find anything about it in the FAQ's. I am
trying to post to my mailing list but I receive the following:

You are not allowed to post to this mailing list, and your message has
been automatically rejected. If you think that your messages are
being rejected in error, contact the mailing list owner at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have been posting right along, but someone did re-configure my Outlook
email recently. I'm not sure if that contributes to the problem. Anyhow,
I can't find the option that tells me where I can change WHO can post to
the list. I had it set up so no-one could send to the list but me -
since it was a notification and reminder service and not a moderated
list. I have dug through all those configuration pages and I'll be
darned if I can find anything besides the owner and moderator areas. I
have my email address in both of those - but still get the message above
emailed to me after trying to post.

Here's a link to my archives:
http://mail.oceanstatepmi.org/mailman/private/members_oceanstatepmi.org/

The version I'm using is: 2.1.5
Help?!

[Mailman-Users] Help

2001-01-23 Thread Space Center

Hello,

I am currently using Mailman to try and start a newsletter, but have no idea
as to how I should go about doing this.

I pretty much want it to be read-only. People submit their email address at
my site, they get signed up (after confirmation email), and I send a
newsletter on a regular basis.

I don't want people replying or seeing who else is on the list. Could
someone please help me with this?

I hope this is the correct list to do this at.

[Mailman-Users] HELP

2001-03-12 Thread root

I have everything running like it should (well mostly).
I was getting the message (via email(the mail delivery system type)): "smrsh:
wrapper not available for sendmail programs". I then made a symlink in
/etc/smrsh for 'wrappers' pointing to /home/mailman/mail/wrapper. Now i am
getting the message "/bin/sh: /etc/smrsh/wrapper: is a directory"

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

[Mailman-Users] Help

2001-05-07 Thread Troy Heber

I need a little help with the mailman program. I have it up and running and
almost everything is working fine except I don't see my lists when I access
the site with the fully qualified name, for example:

http://mysite/mailman/listinfo/ --- Everything is fine
http://mysite.mydomain.com/listinfo/ -- The page comes up but there are no
lists!

None of the other pages seem to be affected by this, the archvie works fine
with and without the qualified name.

My second question is there a way to put a search engine on the archive?

Thanks for the help,

Troy

[Mailman-Users] HELP!!

2001-05-10 Thread Administration

I
administer a list with your service. It is called ALERT and the e-mail address
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have a
problem. Every time I or anyone else sends a post, I get a notice stating that I
have to approve the post in order for it to go through. I've checked all
settings many times and to the best of my ability, I do not have any function
prohibiting posts unless approved by me. I would like for posts to go through
automatically. What do I need to do?

[Mailman-Users] help

2001-05-15 Thread Idris Ali

Dear friend,

I would really appreciate if you can help me end this frustrating torment
in searching the right product.
I really would very much appreciate your help.
Can you kindly see if you can help me?

Do you have a webmailing list where I can simply subscribe addresses all in
1 go and not 1 by 1 or not where the email address owners have to reply to a
message from the mailing list as a confirmation to subscription?

I just want to copy addresses from my txt file and paste them into the
subscription box so they are automatically subscribed. So, I can send them
messages everytime.

I'll tell you what I am looking for and maybe you can see if you have the
right software.

I have a company that regularly bulkemails their clients' ads to "Opt-in"
lists.Because they are busy, they would like to give the bulkemailing to
freelancers.I took the work but the software that the company gave me
"Speedymailer" is a desktop bulkemailer. So, that means, I can only use the
software to bulkemail to the "Opt-in" lists only from my home computer where
"Speedymailer" is installed.I won't be able to bulkemail when I am away from
home.I would like a remote system but I really don't know how they
work. So, I thought that if I install a webmailserver on my computer then I
can use any computer (away from home) to log-in to my webmail account and
bulkemail via my webmailserver on my computer but the webmailservers I have been
testing for the past 8 days are ridiculous.I have 500,000 email addresses on
a txt file with 500,000 lines. 1 address in each line.I try to copy and
paste all the addresses in the BCC: field but only the 1st address in the 1st
line get pasted the rest don't.So, that means, in order to paste all
addresses in the BCC: field.I have to copy and paste 500,000
times!Ridiculous!Example:

I have a text file of address in the following format: [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED]etc. and when I copy all these
names from the text file and paste them on the BCC: field. Only 1 line is
copied. It shows on the BCC: field like this: [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] when it should be showing all the
names like: [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] , [EMAIL PROTECTED] Do you understand the
problem? It only copies 1 line of the names and not all lines of the names
from the txt file. How can I solve this problem?

The other option, I thought, was to purchase a webmailing list and not a
simple desktop mailing list so I can install it on my computer and still be able
to use it when I am away from home by using another computer. But this
webmailing list must allow me to subscribe email addresses myself as if I mail a
message to the "Opt-in" lists to subscribe again to "my new webmailing list" it
will be an inconvenience to them and the main co. may get complains and I'll
lose the work.Do you understand? So, can you help me somehow? If not,
do you know of any other companies that sell what I am looking for?A
shareware? A freeware?Anything?

If you cannot help then please give me instructions how to use the non web
or non-www bulkemail software "Speedymailer" that is a desktop software
installed on my computer.Or if "Speedymailer" is confusing you then please
give me instructions how I can use my home computers' Outlook Express email
client by remote system from another computer when I am away from home.

Well the problem is people are going to the web site, entering
their login
information and receiving something from the server saying reply to
confirm.
So the user thinks it's working. No email goes to blah-request
until the
user attempts to confirm, at which point it bounces... If
"Subscribe Here"
weren't on the web page, that would be a whole lot cleaner.

I am wanting to migrate Mailman from one Linux box to another. Is there
something special I need to know about this before I get started??

Basically, I have Mailman up and running (and has been for some time now) on
a Linux Red Hat 6.2 box. The hard drive is running out of space and not to
mention it is running on a Gateway 200 MHz machine. I have another box
ready to go with Red Hat 7.1 and Mailman already installed. I just need to
migrate what is on the old box onto the new one so that none of the lists or
any other information will be lost.

Can you help please...

Thanks for any help-

hi there,

Currently, the way the list is configured for us, we only have email

Can you help me with this? I just want names to able to be added.

I have installed
Mailman according to your directions. Only thing is, whenever I try to go to

went back and checked all the steps to installation and have not forgotten
anything. I am running RedHat 7.2 python 1.5.2.

[Mailman-Users] Help

2002-03-18 Thread Farid, Tarek

Hello,

I have installed mailman recently on a RH 7.2 linux server
with postfix as my mta. Created a test list. I can get to it fine with my web
browser, except for the public archives (pipermail)! This is my first problem.

My second and main problem is that when I post to the list I get the
following error:

Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; Command died with status 2:    "/var/mailman/mail/wrapper mailcmd test". Command output: Failure to exec    script. WANTED gid 12, GOT gid 99.  (Reconfigure to take 99?)

If anyone had seen this before, please let me know how to fix it.

Thanks…

[Mailman-Users] HELP

2002-03-19 Thread Anna Fong

move_list doesn't update config.db correctly. Is this a known bug? If so,
is there a patch?

Recently tried migrating lists from Mailman 1.1 on one server to Mailman
2.0.8 on different server.

Noticed that move_list was not correctly updating path in config.db for
archives which causes the list not to post mail. (Mailman 2.0.8 on
different server)

When doing `strings config.db` on old config.db for
private_archive_file_dirs, I get
"/usr/local/etc/mailman/archives/private/migration_test.mboxs" as expected.

But after doing a move_list on new server, for private_archive_file_dirs I
get "/export2/home/mailman/lists/migration_test.mboxs" which is going down
"lists" directory not "archives" directory. Not correct!

After doing a rmlist on the new server and then newlist, for
private_archive_file_dirs I get
"/export2/home/mailman/archives/private/migration_test.mboxs" which is
correct. But this means I have to blow away my existing configuration
parameters and start from scratch. Not what I want!

How can I get move_list to update the config.db correctly?

TIA,
Anna

Silly me. I subscribed someone to my list and made an error in their

Is there a way out of this? Can I, as list owner, remove this erroneous

[Mailman-Users] HELP!

2002-10-03 Thread Emy Murakawa

I had originally sent an e-mail to Christopher Kolar
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> as he had written the user help info, but aside
from indicating that he had done it (so it must be possible) and that it
would require some change in setting, he hasn't responded any
further.  Of course, since he's no longer with mailman, I think he
did very well to respond to me at all.  I then tried contacting
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and they suggested I go back to the mailman site and
start again.
Can you help me out with something? CHIS has a listserv. I am familiar
with entering new names, correcting them, and un-subscribing them, but
here's the problem. I would like to make a couple of sections of the
listserv a global sub-list. In other words, using a familiar group, I'd
like to have faculty under one mail address that broadcasts to all. I.e.,
I'd like to be able to pick "Faculty" and be able to limit the
group for edits, corrections, updates, etc. (in other words, a group
cut-n-paste).
I don't know what this is technically called, but I've heard it referred
to as a global group list and an umbrella subset (the entire listserv is
the umbrella, and within the umbrella are several sub-sets). I'd
appreciate any insight you might be able to give me!
Emy
Response from our IT:
Sorry Emy, but I haven't heard of anything like
that being applicable to the Listserv software that we are using. We are
currently using "Mailman" by
www.python.org

2002-10-03 Thread Ken Carson

I have been using mailman with python, postfix and apache for about 1.5

I have rebuild the databases, and upgraded to the latest version. I can't
really find any other info on this problem. Lots of people have had it it
from what I can find in news groups, web sites, etc many different things
have fixed it. Right now the largest mailing list we have is down and its
a huge probelm. (we get about 300 requests from our members a day to this
list).

Anythng you can tell me would be helpful.
