[Mailman-Users] Mailman and HTML Emails
I'm working for a Theater Company and they need a way to contact members and/or ticket buyers via email. I hooked up with Mailman through a host provider. I figured out how to created an announce-only list, upload our member's names, etc. It works pretty great! Question: Can you send the list html email? The theater company wants to send html emails, and I seem to be having a problem doing this? Also, can you recommend a program which can send html emails? [Mailman-Users] help!
I desperately and immediately need the capability to send email to a database of about 3000 people, all of whom are true subscribers to our list. We're a small office running Windows XP, with no network or server beyond minimal disk space on a subscribed ISP server. I'm basically a former database programmer turned web developer, and though I'm a good programmer and a quick study, I have almost no php, perl, or other relevant mail list coding experience. I've studied phplist and mailman and mailman looks slightly less daunting, but I have to be able to install the package and get it running in the next two days. Above all, I need something that can work with directly with our existing Access donor database, using the existing name and email fields, easily and smoothly converting, importing, and updating, so I don't wind up having to spend a lot of time sorting out duplications and errors between the database and the mailing list. Can someone please help me with this? [Mailman-Users] Customized Content/Waive Confirmation emails
Hello, I'm a new user of Mailman (Ver 2.1.2) and after an exhaustive search of the options and what's on your site I can't figure out how to customize the content of subscription emails. In other words, I'd like to change all of the text that gets sent to a subscriber and it seems I can only append text to that email? Secondly, is there a way to remove the use of a confirmation email? Our list is not a discussion based one, it is merely for perioidic announcements. We haven't launched our email list yet but plan to in the new year. Feel free to visit our website to find out about Volunary Service Overseas (Don't know if you've heard of us before). Re: [Mailman-Users] Mailman drops extension of attachment
I tried searching the archives but found nothing about it. I guess my search terms were not good enough. It is not a problem with the mail client. I did debug tracing on the clients to see what was being passed before I submitted a bug report. The client identifies the attachment correctly as a pdf. The problem is that the length of the attachment name seems to be to long for mailman to process correctly. Sending an attachment called: "PRESIDENT'S NEWSLETTER NO. 2 - 2003-2004 ACADEMIC December.pdf" Results in one called: "PRESIDENT'S NEWSLETTER NO. 2 - 2003-2004 ACADEMIC" The recieving client can still open the missnamed attachment if they know what to select as a program to open it with. Its just that the extension is missing and that only happens after going through mailman. It does not happen if it is sent directly to a user. - Original Message Follows - > This *exact* problem was discussed in the archives awhile back. First, you need to detect how messages are getting to that address. More than likely, they're being forwarded automatically. To figure it out, ask the receipient if s/he can send you a copy of one of the messages already sent; make sure it includes *all* the headers. If the version of Mailman you're using supports VERP and you've configured it to use that, tracking down the subscriber is as simple as looking at the from envelope header (ie, "From ") - it will hold an encoded version of the subscriber's address. Alternatively, look at the Received headers and trace the connection (the recipient's host(s) will occur at the top, you're interested in the next host). Finally, if you can't get a copy of the headers or they're not helpful, get in touch with the mail administrator at the recipient's site and ask for his/her cooperation in tracing the source of the messages. Re: [Mailman-Users] Shell meta-characters
The question is simple enough, so I ask it again. Is the sendmail interface safe from addresses that contain shell meta-characters? I an unable to determine from the long list of messages or doing a search in the archives whether or not the problem had been corrected. The mailman code warns not to use the sendmail but use the smtp method because sendmail is not secure. postfix users are warning me that mailman can lead to a compromise if a meta-character is used in the address. postfix users are also saying this should have been fixed by now in mailman but I'd like some confirmation. Anyone familiar with the code care to answer this? - Original Message Follows - > On Mon, 2003-12-22 at 16:58, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > I have not had any response to this. Mailman requires you to have your own mail server up and running - and it is meant to be installed on a Linux or unix-like server. There are several Mail-list ISP's that run Mailman and would be glad to host the mailing lists for you. If you like, I can recommend one of two of them to you (I do support for them). Mailman has some nice integration tools, but most of them use text files for synchronizing the lists. If you use a hosted solution then you'll end up using the web-interfaces (or some ftp scripts) to maintain the lists with your database. It won't be hard to setup, but it won't be totally automated. Hey all, Has anyone had any luck with setting up Mailman together with Postfix using MySQL? If you could point me in the general direction of any good HOWTOs etc. on the subject, I'd be eternally grateful. I've tried googling, and it turned up a lot of questions, and not many answers... If my egg-nog clouded memory can be relied upon, the limit on the file name is somewhat arbitrary and you can easily hack the source so that it does not get truncated. This was also discussed at length in the archives, and the exact code to modify was clearly identified and tested. I think it was simply one line of code. It might be easier for you to trace down the renaming in the source code and make the mod yourself, than to find the thread in the archives (since it was more than a few months ago). Re: [Mailman-Users] admindb cgi functions don't work.
:: Not SSL but something similar with lists moved to a different :: system. Thanks. First you have to make sure that your settings for the following 3 variables are configured properly in your mm_cfg.py file: DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'host.foo.net' DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'host.foo.net' DEFAULT_URL_PATTERN = 'http://%s/mailman/' (note that if you're using SSL, that should be https:// not http://) Once that's done, run the following command to fix all the built-in URLs for all your lists: ~mailman/bin/withlist -l -r fix_url [listname] -v You can use 'all' for [listname] to change this value for all your lists, but I'd run it on one just to make sure you're doing the right thing. After you run this, you can verify the change was made by running ~mailman/bin/dumpdb ~mailman/lists/[listname]/config.pck | grep http After all that, the admin pages should work again. [Mailman-Users] domains
Hello I have a host running mailman 2.0.13 It is named maillists.my.domain, maillists.xxx.my.domain, and mailman.my.domain. All are FQDN. All my lists appear when accessing any of these domain names. I have set up a new server running 2.1.3 and I have the same senario with two FQDN maillists.xxx.my.domain and maillists.my.domain however my lists only show up on one or the other of the FQDN's depending on what I have DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST and DEFAULT_URL_HOST set to. How do I see my lists from either hostname?
