That would be a valuable feature! (It was one of the great features of Eudora.)

I think they differentiate between messages sent to (or from) just the
user, or the user and others, or a mailing list. That's unnecessary and
way too cluttered for me, though. ShowInOut makes the images
user-controllable (if you're comfortable editing the userChrome file,
which I am); I just put a png image of "to: " before messages I send,
which makes it very easy for me to scan the columns and know what my
correspondence looks like. Here's a pic:

(My eye does prefer having no mark on the messages I send; it makes the
difference between from-me and to-me stand out.)

I cannot give you a time frame, but it's both a useful and interesting
general feature. That makes it more likely to be implemented :-)

I would probably buy a MailMate license the day you implemented this :-)

I know at one point you were considering implementing this as a
MailMate feature; it's ticket 445
.
Can you say what its current status is?

I haven't done anything to implement this, but some of my recent changes
might have made it much easier to implement.

As a first step I'll share my thoughts on the subject.

I think it can be implemented by introducing a virtual Correspondent
header. This should essentially be “Any Address” (from, to, cc, bcc)
except any address which matches a known identity (Email Address(es) and
address patterns in account settings).

This would allow it be used for a message outline column as you describe
except for the arrows. It could also be used for searches, smart
mailboxes, and the Submailboxes feature.

The complement of this header would be a virtual Identity header. This
could also be very useful (and the implementation would be almost
identical).

I cannot give you a time frame, but it's both a useful and interesting
general feature. That makes it more likely to be implemented :-)

Yes. For me this would be enough. Mouse centric people might want to
have a menu button (additionally).

I just realized that the default OS key for this already works. Try
hitting F5. (Escape is also used for completions, but that won't work
here since it's used for closing the tag editor.)

It's an annoying problem with the Mailman mailing list software. It
strips the markdown parameter for plain text messages. Interestingly, it
doesn't happen for the plain text body part of an HTML message. I've
been meaning to patch it, but at this point it's probably more likely
that I'll switch mailing list software. I've got my eyes on
[groupserver](http://groupserver.org) and
[groups.io](https://groups.io).

Aaaah, great. :-) That was the problem. I did this many months before
after a tip to solve a specific problem (no idea what it was:-)).

In this context a little feature request (or should I open a ticket?):

look for a specific tag. Currently I use tags (display name) beginning
with _ (underscore) to get such a list. In the settings I use a mapping

(I don't use real display names, like "To be answered", because in older
versions of Mailmate I wasn't able to display this in subfolders.)

Thank you.

I'll note to look into the dynamic updating of the mailbox names when
adding/removing tags. I guess it's not unlikely that bugs are lurking in
this area. Note: Instead of restarting I'm pretty sure you can just
disable/enable submailboxes.

Re: [MlMt] Tags and Submailboxes

2015-02-10 Thread Mike Brasch
Hmm… I just saw that the need to restart to update the smart
subfolders is not always nessessary. I tagged another mail with a new
tag and for this tag the corresponding subfolder apperared immediately
with correct name. But if I set another tag (one out of my previous
example) to this mail, it is "sorted" into one of the already existing
(wrongly named) subfolders and the new one dissapears.

Maybe there is a problem with markdown-only mails?

[MlMt] Problems with sending markdown

2015-02-10 Thread Mike Brasch
H… I just saw some anomalies in my last posting to this list (Tags
and Submailboxes).

Why is my posting (which I got from list server) shown in plain text
instead of markdown? I also don't have the options (in View -> Message
Body Parts) to switch between "plain text" and "markdown" (they are not
shown). Another mails from this list with markdown have these options.
"Convert markdown to html" is also not available for my posting.

I have just looked into the raw mail and saw:

```
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"; Format="flowed"
```

The other markdown mails I received are:

```
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
 boundary="=_MailMate_A20D5F45-0497-4AA3-8092-8CD6D6B61F9D_="
--=_MailMate_A20D5F45-0497-4AA3-8092-8CD6D6B61F9D_=
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; markup=markdown
.
.
.
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
```

What is going wrong here? Should I set up Mailmate completely new?

(In this mail I switched on "generate HTML body part)

[MlMt] Tags and Submailboxes

2015-02-10 Thread Mike Brasch

Moin Moin!

I'm using the latest 64bit version of Mailmate. I have a little issue
with the subfolders of my smart folder "Tags". It is set up as
recommended in the latest release notes. If I have 3 mails with tags:

  - MailA with "workinprogress"
  - MailB with "important"
  - MailC with "important" and "workinprogress" (in this order).

I would expect to 2 subfolders:

  - "important" with MailB and MailC
  - "workinprogress" with MailA and MailC

Instead I get to subfolders:

  - "important workinprogress" with MailB and MailC
  - "workinprogress" with MailA and MailC

The mails shown in each subfolder are correct but the subfolder
"important workinprogress" should be named "important"

I haven't already tested it with more mails and more tags.

And in general I have the problem that the smart folders are not updated
until restart of Mailmate. If I tag another mail with a third tag, the
corresponding subfolder for this tag is only shown after a restart.

.
.
.

I have just done another test:

  - MailD with "important", "tobeanswered" and "workinprogress"

expected:

  - "important" with MailB, MailC and MailD
  - "workinprogress" with MailA, MailC and MailD
  - "tobeanswered" with MailD

after the needed restart to update the subfolders:

  - "important tobeanswered workinprogress" with MailA, MailC and MailD
  - "important tobeanswered workinprogress" with MailD
  - "important tobeanswered workinprogress" with MailB, MailC and MailD

As before, the mails itself are "sorted" correctly but the subfolder
names are wrong.
