[MlMt] Silencing the beep when mail is checked
Greetings. I really dislike the frog-beep when MailMate checks my mail, and it disturbs those around me. I have already selected "None" for "Sound" in Preferences -> Counters, but I still hear the beep. There are 4 independent sets of settings there: one for each corner of the Dock icon a counter can appear in. Each has its own Sound option. Hmm, mine's set to Glass, but I've unchecked Notifications on that screen. To avoid disturbing my neighbours (and of course my own peace and quiet) I have all OS X alerts disabled via System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects. Alert Volume slider all the way to the left and the 2 checkboxes beneath unchecked. In the Mailbox drop down menu (in the menu bar at the top of the screen), what do you see for Synchronization Schedule? I'm curious because you're saying you get an alert sound every 5-10 minutes, and those are choices for this parameter. Mine says Connected, which I presume means using the IMAP Idle function to get new mail. I have multiple mailboxes, some are set for 5 mins, some for 10 mins, some for 1 hour. The other possibilities are that you have manually set up a rule to play a sound or that you use SpamSieve which has its own sound (see its Preferences). Thanks Allie, That was the issue. MailMate caching the messages. After leaving MailMate alone for a day or so (I am on the end of a slow connection) MailMate is now working as I expected, with none of the spinning pinwheel behaviour.
