Is someone able to confirm that this will only export an email to the
folder? It can’t be used to export attachments?

That's not quite true.

I would like to process incoming emails and if they have attachments
which meet a certain criteria (name, subject contains…, from email
address etc) have the attachments automatically saved in Dropbox.

The strange “All Message Subparts” mailbox (under “All
Messages”) can be used to do this, but it's tricky. You'll need to
first create a smart mailbox matching the emails you need. Then create
another smart mailbox based on “All Messages Subparts” which matches
any parts for which the root part is in the first smart mailbox. It
looks like this:

![](cid:DEB39F8F-5E9C-46E7-A331-49A7B061F864@freron.com
"PastedImage.png")

You can add other conditions here, especially with regard to the
Content-Type, e.g., only those matching `image` or `application/pdf`.

Finally, add a rule to export to the second smart mailbox.

I think you need the latest beta in order to get proper filenames for
these files.

If the “Export to Folder” is only for email can anyone advise
another way to achieve this?

I'm afraid there is no easier way to do this now.

Re: [MlMt] Rules and HTML parts

Is there a good introductory tutorial to creating and using rules?

I'm afraid not.

I have some idea of how they work, but it'd be nice to learn from
someone with experience.

That said, is there a way to have a rule set the display part that
should be preferred for a given message? I “Prefer plain text” in
my preferences because it works better for me in 98% of cases, but
there are a few addresses that always send mangled (or utterly
useless) plain-text parts, so I always have to flip to the HTML part
to make any sense of what they're sending. I'd love to have a rule
Just Do That™ for me before I even open the messages.

Hmm, this is not currently possible. The preference (when switching
manually) is actually saved in a virtual header which means that **if**
there was a rule action to set virtual headers (or just this one header)
then it would be possible to do something like the above. Combined with
a smart mailbox matching such messages and the use of the “is in”
comparison method then you might not even need to create more than 1
rule.

So, all I can offer you is to keep in mind that it would be useful to be
able to set this virtual header using a rule action.

I think I could achieve an identical result by tagging the "fresh"
mails before moving and untagging them after verification ( or vice
versa ), which is "easier" for you to implement. :-))

I think that would also be a nicer way to handle that.

I think GUI-wise the "new-move" version could look like this

[From] [is in] [Mailbox/SmartMailbox] [From]

[Generic Move to first matched Source Mailbox of]
[Mailbox/SmartMailbox]

or
[Dynamic Move to first matched Source of] [Mailbox/SmartMailbox]
or
[Fuzzy Move to Source of] [Mailbox/SmartMailbox]

Just some ideas and have a nice WE,

I think this illustrates that it's hard to make such a feature
intuitive. A better (and cleaner) approach would be to make the action
independent of the conditions. The action could then be something
like:

Move to Related Mailbox based on [Header] in [Mailbox]

Benny,

When [Header] means the actual functionality we have for filtering on
“header contained info” then this will be a great feature.

The “Mailbox” could be any smart or IMAP mailbox/account. It would
trigger MailMate to look for the first message in Mailbox with the
same header value. When found, the new message would be moved to the
same IMAP mailbox as the found message. It would be like an IMAP
mailbox variant of the Submailboxes feature for smart mailboxes.

This would allow a worst case near-linear running time if a large
number of messages are “moved” (linear in terms of the size of the
mailbox used in the action).

Note that in this case there would be no need for a condition for the
rule except for maybe limiting the messages triggering the action.

A somewhat related feature would allow simply creating IMAP mailboxes
based on a header value:

Move to Submailbox of [IMAP Mailbox/Account] based on [Header]

This would be a nice to have, and I already see some use for it.
From a “what I like to have first” point-of-view this is last on my
list.

Thanks

[MlMt] Correct default contextual from behavior

2016-02-19 Thread temjeito
In a few (unfortunately very common) cases, MailMate has learned the
wrong “From” address to use with certain contacts.

I email cli...@example.com 10-20 times/day. emails to cli...@example.com
should always come from m...@thismail.com, but whenever I add
cli...@example.com to the “To” field, it changes the “From” to
h...@thatmail.com.

Is there any way to reprogram the default sender for a particular To
address?

Thanks,

As I learned when I asked the question, it's looking at what's in your
Sent folder. Remove all messages in it that have the wrong From line.

[MlMt] Tag conflict scenario?

2016-02-19 Thread Jody Foo

Hi, I just thought of something:

I was creating setting up a new tag, but accidentally misspelled the
gmail label first. I realized that the following scenario might happen:
I apply the tag to a message which means that it will receive a new
gmail label (since I misspelled it). When I realize that I have
misspelled the gmail label, I correct it. Given the right circumstances
something like the following could be the result (right?):

I have the following two tags:

displayflaggmail
#tag1 #tag1 label1
#tag2 #tag2 label2

What will MailMate do if it find a message with the flag `#tag1` with
the gmail label `label2` (since MailMate tries to some corrections when
it sees a discrepancy?)?

have a good weekend everybody,

there are two cases that I'd like to automate with a rule to mark

1. Stuff that I've glanced at for a fraction of a second and then

them as Seen

2. Junk mail marked as junk by one of the mail providers I use, but
which SpamSieve hasn't marked as junk.

I have a rule attached to the "Junk" folder that sets the tag "Seen"
on all mail that comes in to Junk. You can do this on the "Archive"
folder as well of course.

O.K., I tried this on the Archive folder.

In looking closer at the junk problem I realize that my problem is that
Runbox creates a Spam folder and MailMate/SpamSieve use a Junk folder,
so all Runbox accounts have two folders for spam, and the default Junk
folder doesn't pick up Runboxes Spam folders. Runbox must not be marking
these mails with whatever spam header that MailMate is looking at.
Looking at the Edit Mailbox dialog for Junk I don't see any conditions,
so I'm assuming that Junk is hardwired somehow. If I knew what the
problem was, I could contact Runbox and maybe get a fix from their end.

For now I went to all the Runbox Spam folders and set a rule to mark as
seen.
