Re: [MlMt] Updating account information made MailMate (re)download *all* email

2016-09-14 Thread Adam Liter
Now, it looks like this should be ok with FastMail, but then it seems
something else happened. The redownloading of emails indicate that
the `UIDVALIDITY` value changed of each mailbox. Each email is
uniquely identified using the `UIDVALIDITY` of the mailbox and the
`UID` of the message. If the `UIDVALIDITY` value of a mailbox changes
then MailMate MUST delete its local cache of emails and then fetch
the “new” messages of the mailbox. There is no way to tell
MailMate to ignore `UIDVALIDITY` changes.

Hmm, MailMate should also warn you when the latter happens which
makes me think that this might be a MailMate bug after all. I have a
FastMail test account and I'll note to test what happens when I do as
you describe. Sorry about the inconvenience if this turns out to be a
bug.

I did not see any other warnings besides that first one.

For what it's worth (probably not much), this just happened to me with
iOS Mail. I updated to iOS 10 last night. So perhaps it is more of a
FastMail problem, rather than a MailMate problem? Note that I haven't
set up 2FA with FastMail, however. So I'm not really sure how
helpful/relevant this anecdote is.

[MlMt] Message window view shortcuts

2016-09-14 Thread John Cooper
When a message window is open, the View > Layout submenu includes
**Show/Hide Preview** and **Show/Hide Tips**. However, the keyboard
shortcuts that appear in the menu beside these items don't function.

These keyboard shortcuts (control-option-command-P and
control-option-command-T) aren't assigned to any other functions in the
Keyboard control panel or in my macro program (Keyboard Maestro).

But when I assign the menu items new shortcuts in the Keyboard control
panel (control-option-P and control-option-T) the new shortcuts work.

Because I've found a workaround, this is only a heads-up so that other
users can confirm it and Benny registers it as a bug.

If I'm the only user who experiences it...I'm stumped.

John,

Sadly, thats a fact of life for some people. We live in London and
people want their stuff at work and can’t access their home email from
work, banking issues etc etc. No issues with getting mail at work as
thats logged, they don’t like people having access to things they
can’t log. Anyway thats what I’m told.

Re: [MlMt] Multiple email addresses per user in OS X Contacts and Mailmate

2016-09-14 Thread Rob Willett

Thomas,

OK, I knew about the distribution list but hadn’t realised that
different groups could select different primary email addresses. I want
one group to send to multiple email addresses but could do this by
setting up as many groups as there are maximum number of email
addresses.

So the first email address would be in group1 (this would send email to
email1), anybody with a second email address would be in group2 (this
would send to their email2 address) and anybody with a third email
address would be in group3. Clearly the numbers would significantly
diminish over the groups.

I’ll have a try.

Thanks

Rob

Rob,

You **can** select between different email addresses of one vCard.

In Contacts: Go to the „Edit“ menu and select „Edit Distribution
List“

There you will find a list with all available groups and for each
group a list of associated contacts with **all** of their email
addresses. Now you can select the email address of a group member
which will be used if you send an email to this group. Different
groups can use different email addresses of one and the same contact.
No multiple vCards needed.

I have created multiple contact groups in Contacts, e.g. one for the
private email addresses and one for the work email addresses. The
distribution list of a group in Contacts allows me to change between
the different email addresses of a contact. That allows me to stick
with one vCard per person but allows me to switch between the
contact groups (or send to all groups at once). In addition I have
better control which email addresses are actually used when I send
an email to a specific group.

This solution works if nothing changes very often, sadly thats not the
