Re: [MlMt] local folders
Hi, Thanks for confirming this for me. I could probably learn to become more comfortable with Unix stuff, but it has to be worth the investment in time. I really like the *idea* of a local IMAP setup, but I am afraid that, even if I somehow got this working properly, it would easily break down the road with system updates and upgrades and, since it wouldn’t be something that I would be working on regularly and would be fresh on my mind, the cost would be turn out to be too high. So basically for Mac MailMate users without a solid Unix background, local IMAP is probably not a solution, unless someone comes up with a user-friendly interface for setting up and maintaining Dovecot or another mail server tool one day. Personally, I’ll stick with EagleFiler for older messages for now, and might invest in more server space at FastMail if needed. (I religiously remove attachments before archiving messages, so thankfully my mail archive is not growing TOO fast, but it IS growing.) Re: [MlMt] None of the keyboard shortcuts working
HI Robert, Thanks for this hint. I do have a plist file I had created (with help from this list!)I finally had the time and internet connectivity to try this. I don’t know Xcode but downloaded it and opened up the file “messageVerfications.plist” (warns me when I send an email out of my gmail account) Couldn’t see anything obvious (I’m not a programmer!) So I tried moving the file out of the library, rebooted my computer and I still have all MM keystrokes greyed out. So it’s not that file, right? Other ideas? thanks for help! 802-451-1941 802-579-5975 On 25 May 2023, at 10:30, Robert Goldman wrote: I had a problem similar to this, and was only able to fix it after I opened one of my keybindings files, which was misbehaving, and edited it in Xcode. It was failing quietly and messing up lots of previously working bindings. My attempts to edit the file in a text editor didn't work because I was making quoting errors. When I used Xcode, the tool found my errors and I was able to fix them. It would be nice if there was some logging or pop-up when something like this goes wrong so it's easier to find and fix. If there's logging of plist loading failures, I couldn't find it. Hope that helps, R On 25 May 2023, at 4:54, Annamarie Pluhar wrote: hi It’s driving me nuts. (When I focus on it.) None of the keyboard shortcuts in MM work. They are all greyed out. [Here is a screenshot](https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqn3qcso7jnahhe/MM%20Shortcuts%20greyed.png?dl=0). It must be something simple as I can’t find anyone having a similar issue. I’ve looked and looked to find some checkbox? Yes, I have Custom Keybindings Enabled with a special that I created to warn me when I send mail from this address. that’s it. Something is getting in the way? I use Alfred and Hazel but not Keyboard Maestro or anything like that. Ideas? It is mentioned higher up in the post that the placement of Homebrew install differ depending on if you have an older Intel Mac or a newer Apple Silicon Mac. > Also, the instructions say "By default dovecot logs will show up in > /var/log/mail.log”, but I checked, even after stopping Dovecot in Terminal, > and there is no such log there on my system. This has changed since I originally wrote the post in 2014 without me noticing it. Removed it now, thanks. > So Mac users like me need more than this page of instructions, I am afraid. If you are not comfortable with the Unix side I would not recommend using this solution. Fredrik ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
