[MlMt] Searching "raw" message (e.g. MIME parts which are plain text)

2023-06-08 Thread Scott

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to reliably search the full, raw, text of emails in
MailMate - and, in particular, search for text which happens to be contained in
MIME multipart messages where those parts are text/plain.

I can see what I want to search for when I view the raw message, but, I haven't
found what I need to select in the various search options to locate it.

Is there a way to do this?

Ideally, I'd like to do this to create a Smart Mailbox, but, I also just want
to be able to easily/quickly search for things which I know are visible in the
raw message.

May not be possible, I suspect...

Thanks,

Scott

Agreed, comfort with the Unix underpinnings is likely needed. I was describing
it as ‘low effort’ in the context of Randy saying, ‘i use dovecot on real
servers’.

If you ever look into this again, the email address and SMTP server are
irrelevant as this account will never be used for sending messages. I’ve left
both of mine blank.

Fredrik, thank you both for writing the post originally and for keeping it up
to date. I am indebted to you – it’s exactly what I needed to be able to switch
to MailMate a few years ago, and I’m not sure I would have attempted setting up
Dovecot without your guide. Thank you for taking the time to document it!

Re: [MlMt] None of the keyboard shortcuts working Handholding please

2023-06-08 Thread Annamarie Pluhar

Hi

I’m deciding that an answer to my issue is to reinstall MM. I think
I’m missing the standard.plist file. At least I can’t find it. (User
error in creating keybindings?)

 So I shouldn’t copy over my /Library/Application Support/Mailmate
folder since I’ll replicate my issue? But I have signatures and smart
mailboxes and multiple accounts that I’d like to preserve so I do need
to copy over these files? (all .plist)

Identities
Mailboxes
signatures
Managed/keychain

Is that right?
What about sources.plist?

Thanks for help - not a coder -

HI Robert,

Thanks for this hint. I do have a plist file I had created (with help

try this. I don’t know Xcode but downloaded it and opened up the
file “messageVerfications.plist” (warns me when I send an email
out of my gmail account) Couldn’t see anything obvious (I’m not a
programmer!) So I tried moving the file out of the library, rebooted
my computer and I still have all MM keystrokes greyed out. So it’s
not that file, right?

Other ideas?

I had a problem similar to this, and was only able to fix it after I

didn't work because I was making quoting errors. When I used Xcode,
the tool found my errors and I was able to fix them.

It would be nice if there was some logging or pop-up when something
like this goes wrong so it's easier to find and fix. If there's
logging of plist loading failures, I couldn't find it.

Hope that helps,
R

Re: [MlMt] Is Benny Ok?

2023-06-08 Thread Benny Kjær Nielsen

The new better (cleaner/robust/faster?) implementation means that I'll
now be able to, finally, add the option of a single column message

relatively close to being able to release a crude first shot at it.

This first shot is now available as a direct download only:
[MailMate_r5965.tbz](https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/MailMate_r5965.tbz)

It's a major update (with respect to code changes) and I'm a bit worried
about the number of bugs possibly introduced (write me via “Help >
Send Feedback”). The message list is almost completely rewritten even
though it should essentially look the same as before.

It does, experimentally, support a single column mode. This is a bit
cumbersome to try out for now though. You'll have to enable the new
“Standard Single Column” and then disable the other columns, but
this should then work well in the Widescreen layout. I'd also recommend
disabling the alternate row coloring option in the Viewer preferences
pane.

Some very low level hints below for those who love tinkering with things
while also being willing to break them.

---

There's a new settings file which is mostly identical to the one used by
the old message list. It's located here:

MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/MmMessageListView/outlineColumns.plist

This can be extended by creating this path and file:

	/Users//Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessageListView/outlineColumns.plist

Example content could then be (this is identical to the current
default):

```
{
columns =
{
mycustomcolumn = {
title = "Custom Single Column";
type = "multivalue";
sortKey = "#date-received";
minimumWidth = 200;
layout = {
leftAligned = (
	( { columnKey = "read"; }, { columnKey = "security"; }, { columnKey
= "correspondent"; /*minimumWidth = 200.0;*/ }, ),
	( { columnKey = "flag"; }, { columnKey = "short_tags"; }, {
columnKey = "subject"; }, ),
);
rightAligned = (
( { columnKey = "date"; }, ),
( { columnKey = "size"; }, { columnKey =
"attachments"; }, ),
);
};
};
};
}
```

The column keys are used to “reuse” the values defined for other
columns. It's also possible to have inline formatting of other values,
but I haven't really tested that.

There's also another new settings file:

MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/MmMessageListView/rowActions.plist

This can be copied and then altered in the following location:

	/Users//Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessageListView/rowActions.plist

This will allow custom swiping actions to be defined. Note that these
are currently only available multi-value columns. (I guess that could be
optional.)

just for the record, it appears the mailing list software used for this list

Sorry for the very late response to this. I wanted to chime in and say
that in my (fully functional) instance of MailMate 5964, my interface
matches yours — that is, when I have a message selected (but not
opened) in the message list and I open the Message menu, the keyboard
shortcuts are all grayed out. However, as in your screenshot, the names
of most commands are ***not*** grayed out, and the keyboard shortcuts
for those commands do work, despite being grayed out in the menu. But
for you, they don't work, is that right?

When working keyboard shortcuts appear grayed out in a menu, that is an
interface bug, IMO.

The standard.plist file is inside the application bundle where it's not easily
messed with:

Macintosh HD > Applications > MailMate.app > Contents > Resources > Keybindings
> Standard.plist

On the Mac, applications are actually folders but don't display as such.
There's an easy way to open them, but it's generally a bad idea. If you think
something is corrupted or misconfigured inside the application bundle, it's
best to reinstall the app.

2023-06-08 Thread Henry Seiden

Thanks, Benny. You friends on the Board worry about you.

Also saw that no messages were coming in from the end of May until now
on this nailing list, so I hope the message list itself is completely
restored to operation.

Have all messages from 01-07JUN vanished or can they be somehow
recovered?

Respectfully,

I'm ok :) There's been a lot of, let's say, “family activity” the
past few months and I've been less active on email correspondence
(even more than usual) and bug-hunting/fixing since this often
requires quick forth and back communication.

But this does not mean I haven't been working. Most of that work has
gone into an almost complete rewrite of the message list in MailMate
which is one of the big items on my todo list. An awful lot of this
work isn't really visible since it's related to how it's implemented
and not what it can do, but it was still important work :)

The new better (cleaner/robust/faster?) implementation means that I'll

All this just to let you know that I'm ok and I'll do my best to get
back to emailing as well :)
